G-Dragon and YG Entertainment copyright infringement controversy explained: Decade-old dispute triggers police raid
An investigation has been launched into allegations of copyright infringement involving South Korean rapper and the leader of K-pop boy group BIGBANG G-Dragon, and his agency YG Entertainment's founder, Yang Hyun Suk. The probe was triggered by a complaint from an anonymous composer who claims that one of his original works was used without permission in G-Dragon's music. G-Dragon and YG Entertainment's alleged copyright infringement: Complaint revealed last November On August 12, 2025, officials from Seoul's Mapo Police Station confirmed that the investigation stems from a complaint filed in November 2024. The composer alleges that YG Entertainment reproduced his song, originally titled G-DRAGON, and altered it to become My Age Is 13. This track was then included in a medley called My Age Is 13 + Storm + Hip Hop Gentlemen + G-Dragon on G-Dragon's live album Shine a Light. The composer claims that the use and distribution of this modified track without his consent constitutes copyright infringement. #GDRAGON and YG Yang Hyun-suk are under police investigation for alleged copyright infringement. Police raided YG after a composer accused them of using his song without permission in G-Dragon's 2010 album. YG denies wrongdoing. Police actions and ongoing investigation in the case Since the complaint, police have taken active steps by conducting two raids, including one at YG Entertainment's headquarters, to collect evidence related to the case. Several individuals connected to the production and distribution of the song have been questioned as part of the inquiry. Authorities, however, have not shared further specifics on the song or indicated when the investigation might conclude. How are fans reacting to the controversy? Fans and netizens have reacted quickly to the news, many expressing doubts about the timing and validity of the lawsuit. The original song 'My Age Is 13' reportedly dates back to when G-Dragon was just 13 years old in 2001 and was only briefly revisited during a 2009 concert. Since the song was never officially registered with the Korean Copyright Association and was performed as part of a live medley rather than released as a standalone track, many online commentators consider the lawsuit's late filing—more than a decade later—to be opportunistic. Gps are on Gdragon's side G-Dragon's recent comeback Despite the ongoing controversy, G-Dragon marked a major return to the spotlight in early 2025. He released his third studio album, Übermensch, his first full-length project in nearly 12 years, featuring collaborations with artists such as Anderson .Paak and aespa's Karina. He also launched his world tour, beginning with concerts in Goyang, South Korea, in March. For all the latest K-drama, K-pop, and Hallyuwood updates, keep following our coverage here.

Bollywood music will always be special but santoor is my soul, says Rahul Sharma
Rahul Sharma, despite a successful Bollywood debut with 'Mujhse Dosti Karoge,' prioritized his classical and fusion santoor explorations. He found balancing film music with global performances challenging, choosing to uphold his family's musical legacy. While collaborations with artists like Amitabh Bachchan and Zakir Hussain have been special, Sharma hints at a potential return to Bollywood amidst ongoing offers. Despite debuting in Bollywood with much promise, santoor maestro Rahul Sharma has largely stayed away from the film industry, choosing instead to dedicate himself to classical and fusion explorations of the santoor. Now, nearly two decades after his first outing with tabla virtuoso Bickram Ghosh, the two have reunited for a second collaboration. In an exclusive chat with us, Rahul talks about his decision to focus on his musical roots over commercial cinema. 'For a travelling, performing musician, film music is time consuming. When my dad did it, he had a partner in Pt. Hari Prasad Chaurasia to share the burden with,' he notes, referring to the iconic Shiv–Hari duo. Rahul had made his Bollywood debut as a music director, with Mujhse Dosti Karoge, and the entire album was a hit. And yet, just when the film world expected him to dive deep into movie music, Rahul chose a different path. He explains, 'Well, yes, the music of my very first film was superhit! And what an opportunity it was to work with Lata Mangeshkar,' he recalls. Even as offers poured in from Bollywood, Rahul found himself at a crossroads. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Jump in With Both Feet at Siemens Energy Siemens Energy Read More Undo 'I did receive several offers after that, but I had at the same time embarked on my stage performances as an artist and it was complicated at that point to manage film composition and take the santoor across the globe,' he explains. Why did he choose the latter, we ask. 'I chose the latter as it was a huge responsibility and legacy. The santoor was and is a priority. Most of my music compositions emerged in the form of international collaborations and thematic albums, which brought me closer to stellar musicians across the globe and were far more enriching. Having said that, a few years ago, I had Amitabh Bachchan ji sing my composition Jai Hanuman, which I had composed for Kunal Kohli's Ramyug. That was special because I also had Zakir Hussain play on it making it the first combo with the three of us. It was amazing working with Amitabh Bachchan Ji. Everything was done post-midnight hour. He loved the composition and sang it with such amazing sincerity! I was totally humbled by his professionalism and efforts. Bollywood will always be special but santoor is my soul.' So what now? 'Of and on, I do keep getting offers for films, so I'm eyeing that direction too,' he reveals.
