The concerts, dubbed India's largest-ever live entertainment spectacle, significantly contributed to local infrastructure, hospitality and cultural tourism.
As per news agency PTI, 86 per cent of the attendees had travelled from outside the host city, leading to sharp rises in spending on hotels, transport, dining and retail. The event also contributed Rs 72 crore in GST revenue to the Government of India, demonstrating the fiscal strength of the live entertainment sector.
Raghav Anand, partner and leader - digital, media and convergence at EY-Parthenon, said, 'As we witness the dynamic growth of India's live entertainment sector, which has surpassed the Rs 12,000 crore mark in 2024 and is projected to grow at a CAGR of around 19 per cent over the next three years, the increasing consumer spends are fuelling this transformative journey.'
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also endorsed the concert economy in his address at the Utkarsh Odisha - Make in Odisha Conclave 2025.
Citing Coldplay's performances in Ahmedabad and Mumbai, he said, "In a country with such a rich heritage in music, dance and storytelling, with such a large pool of youth and a massive consumer base for concerts, there are vast opportunities for the concert economy. In the past decade, both the trend and demand for live events have grown.

Calling it a 'proud moment for India,' Shah said, 'Coldplay recorded their biggest concert with 1,34,000 in attendance,' and added that Ahmedabad has now become an epicentre for both sporting and entertainment events.

Box Office: Coolie and War 2 ensure a bumper opening weekend in India; Rajinikanth, Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR contribute Rs 430 crore in 4 days

Coolie and War 2 are the two latest releases of Indian cinema. While the Rajinikanth starrer is performing well, the latter is struggling to gain the much-needed traction. Since both movies were released on Thursday, they enjoyed a 4-day extended opening weekend. However, exhibitors are happy as both Independence Day releases have brought audiences back to the cinemas. Coolie and War 2 collectively rakes in Rs 430 crore during the Independence Day weekend Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Coolie opened with Rs 75.50 crore. It further raked in Rs 63.50 crore on Day 2 and Rs 47.50 crore on Day 3. As per estimates, the movie stormed over Rs 44 crore on its Day 4, bringing the opening weekend cume to Rs 230 crore gross at the Indian box office. While on the other hand, War 2 kickstarted its box office run with Rs 59 crore on its opening day. It further collected Rs 67 crore on the Independence Day followed by Rs 38 crore on the third day. Estimates suggest the movie added another Rs 35 crore to the tally on its fourth day, bringing the opening weekend total to Rs 200 crore gross in India. Collectively, both Coolie and War 2 sums up Rs 430 crore gross at the domestic box office. Had both movies performed to their full potential, the combined figure would have easily surpassed the Rs 500 crore mark in the first weekend alone. Globally, both movies have clocked over the Rs 600 crore mark in the first four days of their theatrical runs. Coolie performs best down South, War 2 dominates the Northern belt Coolie fared best in its home turf along with Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. In contrast, War 2 dominated the North India belt with a solid margin. Both Independence Day releases are expected to end their theatrical run on a similar figure in India, with Coolie leading the clash. However, the Lokesh Kanagaraj movie will maintain a big margin in the international markets. It will be interesting to see whether both of them collectively can reach the Rs 1000 crore mark globally, as none of them now can achieve the four-digit magical figure alone. British Actor Terence Stamp, 1960s Icon and Superman Star, Passes Away at 87

Trigger Warning: This article contains references to an individual's death. Terence Stamp, the British actor who rose to fame in the 1960s and later became known worldwide for his role as General Zod in Superman, has died at the age of 87, his family confirmed on Sunday, August 17, according to Reuters. Stamp's career spanned more than six decades, with roles ranging from British classics to Hollywood blockbusters. He earned his first and only Academy Award nomination for best supporting actor in 1962 for his debut role in Billy Budd, directed by Peter Ustinov. Terence Stamp's early life and breakthrough Born on July 22, 1938, in London's East End, Stamp was the son of Ethel and Thomas, a merchant seaman. He grew up far from the glamour of Hollywood. In a 2013 interview with the British Film Institute, Stamp recalled his father's doubts about an acting career. 'He genuinely believed that people like us didn't do things like that,' Stamp said. His mother, however, 'loved every second of it.' Stamp quickly established himself as a key figure in British cinema during the 1960s. He appeared in John Schlesinger's Far From the Madding Crowd and Ken Loach's first feature film Poor Cow. A star of Swinging London Stamp became part of the cultural wave of Swinging London, often making headlines for his high-profile relationships with model Jean Shrimpton, actress Julie Christie, and Brigitte Bardot. He also shared a flat with fellow actor Michael Caine during their early careers. In a 2015 interview with The Guardian, Stamp reflected on their friendship, saying, 'We just went different ways. I can understand it: in many ways he was much more mature than me.' What made Terence Stamp a global star? After a break from acting, Stamp returned in 1978 with his defining role as General Zod in Superman, a part he reprised in the 1980 sequel. More than 20 years later, he lent his voice as Jor-El, Superman's father, in the TV series Smallville. Stamp's versatility showed in other roles too. He played Bernadette, a drag queen, in the 1994 comedy The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, and later appeared in Wall Street and The Adjustment Bureau. In interviews, Stamp often spoke about his long career with honesty. 'I've had bad experiences and things that didn't work out; my love for film sometimes diminishes but then it just resurrects itself,' he told The Guardian. He added, 'I've done crap, because sometimes I didn't have the rent. But when I've got the rent, I want to do the best I can.' Stamp married once, in 2002, to an Australian pharmacist 35 years younger, though the marriage ended in 2008. From a humble East End childhood to international stardom, Terence Stamp leaves behind a legacy that defined both British cinema of the 1960s and Hollywood blockbusters that followed.
