Queen intervened after Meghan Markle's alleged outburst at caterer—reveals royal biographer

Meghan and Harry indeed had a dreamy wedding, but behind palace walls, things reportedly got heated — so much so that
Queen Elizabeth II
allegedly had to step in herself.
In her book The New Royals,
royal biographer Katie Nicholl
shares new claims about
Meghan Markle
's behavior in the lead-up to her 2018 wedding to
Prince Harry
. According to excerpts published by the Daily Mail on Sunday, Markle became visibly upset during a tasting at
Windsor Castle
, all over an egg.
'Meghan was at the castle to taste some of the dishes,' an insider told Nicholl. The tension reportedly rose when she 'told one of the caterers she could taste egg.'
The source claimed Markle 'got quite upset, saying that the dish was meant to be vegan and macrobiotic.'
At the time, Markle was believed to be adhering to a mostly plant-based diet. But in the years since, she's clarified that she's not strictly vegan. In a 2019 issue of British Vogue, Markle wrote about having 'a casual lunch of chicken tacos and my ever-burgeoning bump' with Michelle Obama.
More recently, on Valentine's Day this year, she shared a tribute to Prince Harry with a photo of burgers and fries, captioned: 'I will eat burgers and fries and fish and chips with you forever.
'
Still, according to Nicholl's book, her frustration during that tasting led to royal intervention. 'Suddenly the Queen walked in and said: 'Meghan, in this family we don't speak to people like that,'' the source alleged.
This isn't the first time Markle's pre-wedding behavior has come under scrutiny.
Her now-infamous fallout with Kate Middleton over Princess Charlotte's bridesmaid dress was addressed in both Markle's interview with Oprah Winfrey and more recently in Tom Quinn's book, Yes, Ma'am: The Secret Life of Royal Servants.
Quinn quotes a royal insider who recounted, 'The truth is that during the discussions about [Charlotte's] bridesmaid's dress, Meghan said a few things she regretted and Kate said a few things she later regretted, but it was all in the heat of the moment.
Both women were crying their eyes out.'
According to Quinn, palace aides even gave Markle an unofficial nickname: the 'Duchess of Difficult.' One staffer explained, 'She could be difficult because she was finding life difficult — trying to feel her way and work out the intricacies of a positively medieval, labyrinthine system.'
As for Meghan's camp, no official comment has been released regarding the latest allegations.
