Steelers name replacement for inside linebackers coach Aaron Curry
The Pittsburgh Steelers have officially named Scott McCurley as their new inside linebackers coach, replacing Aaron Curry, who was hired by the New York Jets last month.
A Western Pennsylvania native, McCurley brings a wealth of experience to the Steelers, having spent the last five seasons (2020-24) as the linebackers coach for the Dallas Cowboys. With 18 years in the NFL, including 15 in a coaching role, McCurley is well-equipped to elevate the Steelers' linebacker corps.
During his time with the Cowboys, McCurley played a role in the development of standout linebacker Micah Parsons, who recorded a team-high 12 sacks in 2023 and earned his fourth consecutive Pro Bowl selection. Under McCurley's guidance, Dallas linebackers contributed 22 of the team's 52 sacks last season. Additionally, linebacker Eric Kendricks posted a career-high 145 tackles despite missing two games due to injury.
Before his time in Dallas, McCurley worked in various roles over 13 seasons with the Green Bay Packers. In 2018, he helped coach the Packers' defense to rank eighth in the NFL in sacks.
McCurley's coaching expertise and his Pennsylvania roots make him a valuable addition to the Steelers' staff as they continue to strengthen their defensive unit for the upcoming season.

In a recent article by SNY's Connor Hughes, he talks a bit about the state of the Jets this offseason, and he proposes that the team could think about signing veteran safety Justin Simmons to improve their defense even further. "The Jets can certainly make a splash with $22 million in cap space. That's more than enough to add a player and keep enough in the cache to cover players signed to replace those who land on the injured reserve," Hughes wrote. "Safety could be a spot, though. Julian Blackmon and Justin Simmons are both available. The Jets love Andre Cisco. Tony Adams is a little bit of a question mark next to him." Simmons, faded though he is, is a two-time Pro Bowler. With how solid they all were this past season, it will be an adjustment to play without them. With the Atlanta Falcons this past season, Simmons finished with 62 total tackles, with 36 of them being solo. He was also able to show his ball-hawk skills by deflecting seven passes and snagging a couple of interceptions. The Jets are coming off of a season where they finished 5-12, so the team could be looking to sign some players in free agency to help them redeem themselves. And Simmons could be a very intriguing option.
