Steelers name replacement for inside linebackers coach Aaron Curry
The Pittsburgh Steelers have officially named Scott McCurley as their new inside linebackers coach, replacing Aaron Curry, who was hired by the New York Jets last month.
A Western Pennsylvania native, McCurley brings a wealth of experience to the Steelers, having spent the last five seasons (2020-24) as the linebackers coach for the Dallas Cowboys. With 18 years in the NFL, including 15 in a coaching role, McCurley is well-equipped to elevate the Steelers' linebacker corps.
During his time with the Cowboys, McCurley played a role in the development of standout linebacker Micah Parsons, who recorded a team-high 12 sacks in 2023 and earned his fourth consecutive Pro Bowl selection. Under McCurley's guidance, Dallas linebackers contributed 22 of the team's 52 sacks last season. Additionally, linebacker Eric Kendricks posted a career-high 145 tackles despite missing two games due to injury.
Before his time in Dallas, McCurley worked in various roles over 13 seasons with the Green Bay Packers. In 2018, he helped coach the Packers' defense to rank eighth in the NFL in sacks.
McCurley's coaching expertise and his Pennsylvania roots make him a valuable addition to the Steelers' staff as they continue to strengthen their defensive unit for the upcoming season.

Jets Predicted To Trade For $180 Million QB And Dump Justin Fields
Jets Predicted To Trade For $180 Million QB And Dump Justin Fields originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The New York Jets just got done investing $40 million over two years to acquire Justin Fields. The Jets also just got done saying goodbye to an elderly QB in Aaron Rodgers. Advertisement But now comes the suggestion that the new regime could undo everything ... and redo everything. Fields is a young first-round talent who last year with the Pittsburgh Steelers in limited time threw for 1,106 yards and five touchdowns and one interception, while adding 289 rushing yards and five touchdowns. Oh, and he helped the Steelers win. Can he bring the same athleticism to New York? Can new coach Aaron Glenn's staff refine his work and make him a better passer? That's the plan ... though Bleacher Report has other ideas as it predicts that the Jets will trade for Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins. Advertisement B/R writes that New York "has a considerable amount of salary-cap space and could well give up on Justin Fields by November. If the increasingly desperate Jets are competitive in spite of Fields at that stage, dealing for an established veteran from the NFC could make some sense." Yeah, but ... nah. Cousins is a backup in Atlanta; they'd love to find a path to giving him away ... but his $180 million contract is an albatross. So, by the way, was his 2024 performance, as he tossed 18 touchdowns, to an NFL-worst 16 interceptions. Why would New York want to pay for that? And if the Jets are still "competitive'' before the in-season NFL trade deadline of Nov. 4? Why would they give up on Fields - the QB who likely helped get them there? Advertisement Cousins has made four Pro Bowl appearances. But like now-Steelers vet Rodgers, 41, who has four NFL MVPs to his credit? Those things happened a long time ago. And the Jets don't need to go back to that future. Top 25 Under 25: Does Jets' Garrett Wilson Make The Cut?
Top 25 Under 25: Does Jets' Garrett Wilson Make The Cut? originally appeared on Athlon Sports. New York Jets receiver Garrett Wilson has had a solid start to his NFL career, and he hasn't had a stable quarterback throwing him the ball yet. Advertisement He's had Aaron Rodgers, Zach Wilson, Trevor Siemian, Tim Boyle, Joe Flacco, Mike White, and Chris Streveler at three seasons. When we factor in that in each of his seasons, Wilson has posted at least 1,000 yards and 80 receptions, it makes his start to life in the NFL even more impressive. Now wanting a new contract, Wilson is expected to fetch quite the price, and we feel the Jets will come to the party and pay him like a top receiver in football. But is he one of the best young players in the NFL? In CBS Sports' top 25 under 25, Wilson only just scrapes No. 25. "Wilson has yet to explode into alpha status despite making an instant impact out of Ohio State," CBS Sports writes. "Steady quarterback turmoil in New York hasn't robbed him of availability or consistency, however, as he's yet to miss a single game over three straight 1,000-yard seasons. Will he ever find a long-term partner under center?" © Brad Penner-Imagn Images Can his former Ohio State teammate, Justin Fields, be the one who can get Wilson to have an All-Pro-type of season? Advertisement That is the hope, or at least to keep the status quo in 2025. Garrett has all the tools needed to be a top receiver in football, and if he can put up the numbers he has with a revolving door at quarterback, what could he do with the right guy who is there for longer than one season? The 2025 season is poised to be an interesting one for the Jets on many fronts, but one key question is whether Wilson can take that next step from being a good receiver to a great one. Jets Could Bolster Defense By 'Splash' Signing Two-Time Pro Bowl Safety
Jets Could Bolster Defense By 'Splash' Signing Two-Time Pro Bowl Safety originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The New York Jets take a lot of pride in their defense, especially their ability to defend the pass. But the team has parted ways with a few safeties this offseason, and it could be in the team's best interests to replace them. Advertisement And they could look at one of the best free agents available to be that replacement. In a recent article by SNY's Connor Hughes, he talks a bit about the state of the Jets this offseason, and he proposes that the team could think about signing veteran safety Justin Simmons to improve their defense even further. "The Jets can certainly make a splash with $22 million in cap space. That's more than enough to add a player and keep enough in the cache to cover players signed to replace those who land on the injured reserve," Hughes wrote. "Safety could be a spot, though. Julian Blackmon and Justin Simmons are both available. The Jets love Andre Cisco. Tony Adams is a little bit of a question mark next to him." Simmons, faded though he is, is a two-time Pro Bowler. That would be the "splash'' move here. Advertisement Safeties Ashtyn Davis, Chuck Clark, and Jalen Mills all did not return to the Jets for a number of different reasons. With how solid they all were this past season, it will be an adjustment to play without them. With the Atlanta Falcons this past season, Simmons finished with 62 total tackles, with 36 of them being solo. He was also able to show his ball-hawk skills by deflecting seven passes and snagging a couple of interceptions. The Jets are coming off of a season where they finished 5-12, so the team could be looking to sign some players in free agency to help them redeem themselves. And Simmons could be a very intriguing option.
