Bills Add Roster Sleeper as Von Miller Replacement

Yahoo02-05-2025

The Buffalo Bills were in the bottom half of the league in sacks this past season, so they went into the 2025 NFL Draft looking to improve their defensive line.
And that is exactly what they did.
In a recent article by PFF's Trevor Sikkema, he outlines his favorite pick of the draft for every team. For the reigning AFC East champions, his favorite pick they made was Arkansas edge rusher Landon Jackson with the 76th pick in the third round.

"This was such a good Bills-type draft pick. Jackson is a young, more athletic version of the player they wanted A.J. Epenesa to be," Sikkema writes. "He has great length and good explosiveness and is stout against the run, having earned an 88.8 PFF run-defense grade in 2024. He can slot in anywhere from 4i defensive end to stand-up outside linebacker."
Jackson was one of the most athletic edge rushers in the draft, as he ran a solid 4.68 in the 40-yard dash at the NFL Draft Combine, as well as posting a vertical jump just over 40 inches.
He finished his senior season at Arkansas with 49 total tackles, 10 tackles for loss, and 6.5 sacks. Jackson was also able to show his versatility by deflecting three passes at the line.
The Bills parted ways with future Hall of Fame edge rusher Von Miller earlier this offseason, so the team needed someone to help fill the hole he left behind. Jackson will be hoping that he can be that guy.

Eagles fan Mike Trout wrote Super Bowl LIX score on his bat knob — now it's in a baseball card

NFL fans commemorate their team's Super Bowl victories in all sorts of ways, but Mike Trout might be the first to do it on a bat knob. The South Jersey native who is often seen in his end-zone seats at Lincoln Financial Field through the fall and winter wrote a special inscription on the bottom of one of his game-used bats after his Philadelphia Eagles won Super Bowl LIX: 'Eagles 40 Chiefs 22. Fly Eagles Fly!' That knob has since been cut off the bat and put into a one-of-a-kind baseball card autographed by Trout that will be in Topps' upcoming Tier One set (release date has yet to be announced). FIRST LOOK: Mike Trout wrote the final score on his game-used bat knob 🦅🔥 — Topps (@Topps) June 1, 2025 Bat knob cards always present a rare piece of unique MLB memorabilia, but Trout, himself a baseball card collector, now has one of the more unique ones out there, with MLB-NFL crossover appeal. It's far from the first time the Los Angeles Angels outfielder referenced his Eagles fandom on a card, though. He wrote 'Go Birds!' on his one-of-one autographed MLB logo patch card in 2023 Topps Triple Threads and 'Fly Eagles Fly!' on his 2023 Topps Pristine 1/1 card. But if you're looking for crossover appeal for sports card and trading card game collectors, the recently retired Evan Longoria helped create what could become the most expensive bat knob card in industry history. An autographed bat knob card in this year's Tier One set for the three time All-Star third baseman contains a knob with an image of Charizard from Pokemon fame. When Pokémon and baseball collide 🤝 Evan Longoria posted this on his Instagram, a 1 of 1 bat knob featuring Charizard that will be in Tier One Baseball 👀🔥 — Fanatics Live (@fanaticslive) March 23, 2025 There's already a $100,000 public bounty on the Longoria card made by a Florida sports card shop owner. That would shatter the record for the most expensive bat knob card sold. According to Card Ladder, a 2017 Topps Tier One Honus Wagner card (not autographed) stands as the top selling bat knob card going for $24,600 in August 2022. Advertisement Longoria made it no secret that he'd been an interested buyer of the card as well. However, nothing can compare to Bryce Harper's 'RIP Harambe' bat knob card. Bryce Harper's 1/1 game-used "RIP Harambe" bat knob card… 🦍🔥 — Topps (@Topps) February 19, 2025 Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Christian Yelich and Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Junior Caminero added their own twists to their upcoming Tier One bat knob autographed cards. They each have images of their 2024 Topps Series One cards on the knobs. While collectors wait for Tier One's release, they can also hunt for bat knob cards in the new Topps Sterling set, which went on sale Wednesday. The set bears 81 autographed bat knob cards from a mix of current players like Trout, Mookie Betts, Aaron Judge and Juan Soto as well as former players like Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, David Ortiz and Cal Ripken Jr. They keep getting better… This stack of game-used bat knob cards will be featured in 2025 Sterling. Falcons' Jessie Bates cracks top 5 of PFF's safety rankings for 2025 season

Falcons' Jessie Bates cracks top 5 of PFF's safety rankings for 2025 season Jessie Bates III ranked among NFL's elite safeties by Pro Football Focus The Atlanta Falcons defense had a roller-coaster season in 2024, ending with two ugly performances in losses to the Washington Commanders and Carolina Panthers. After the season, the team fired defensive coordinator Jimmy Lake and replaced him with Jeff Ulbrich. While we expect the defense to look much different in 2025, one player Ulbrich can count on is safety Jessie Bates III. The Pro Bowl playmaker delivered again last season, bringing in four interceptions, four forced fumbles and one sack. Bates has 10 interceptions since signing with the Falcons during the 2023 offseason. The 28-year-old didn't make the Pro Bowl or All-Pro teams, but he still cracked the top five of Pro Football Focus' safety rankings for the 2025 season. Bates landed at No. 3 on PFF's list: While Bates didn't replicate his success from his first season in Atlanta — in which he earned a 90.6 PFF overall grade — he was still among the best safeties in the league in 2024. He was especially good in coverage, evidenced by his 81.4 PFF coverage grade, which ranked eighth at the position. Zoltán Buday, PFF The Falcons did a solid job of upgrading around Bates without using a ton of resources. After signing veteran Jordan Fuller in free agency, the team stole Notre Dame safety Xavier Watts in the third round of the 2025 NFL draft. Atlanta also drafted Oklahoma safety Billy Bowman in the fourth round. Watts, who recorded six interceptions for the Fighting Irish last season, was ranked 36th overall on PFF's 2025 Big board. Atlanta landed him at pick No. 96 after moving up a few spots in the third round. "Watts is the best ball-hawking safety in this class thanks to his intelligence and ability to break on the football," PFF wrote. Bowman is expected to compete for reps at nickel this season. The team also re-signed veterans Dee Alford and Mike Hughes. This group has a good mix of talent and leadership, and it all starts with Bates. We'll see if Ulbrich can get the most out of this unit in 2025.

Looking back, PFF thinks Rams should have taken different QB in 2016 NFL Draft

Looking back, PFF thinks Rams should have taken different QB in 2016 NFL Draft One of the biggest moves of the Los Angeles Rams' franchise came in 2016 when the team traded up to the No. 1 overall pick. At the time, it was expected that either Cal's Jared Goff or North Dakota State's Carson Wentz would be taken first. The Rams took Goff, who had a solid career with the team before being used as a trade chip to acquire Matthew Stafford five years later. It's easy to look back at previous NFL drafts and make new picks based on future information. And Pro Football Focus' Dalton Wasserman re-drafted the No. 1 overall picks from the past 19 drafts. For 2016, he picked Dak Prescott over Goff. "The Rams traded a king's ransom for the opportunity to select Jared Goff with the first pick in 2016, but had they known what Dak Prescott would become, they may have opted for him as their franchise quarterback instead," Wasserman wrote. "Prescott's 87.8 career PFF passing grade outpaces Goff's 82.5 mark. He has also provided significantly more value on the ground than Goff, accruing an 80.9 PFF rushing grade so far in his career." This analysis is all well and good, but while Goff isn't the Rams quarterback anymore, he played a huge role in the acquisition of the quarterback who delivered a Super Bowl — Stafford. Would Prescott have been able to win where Goff could not? Maybe. Or would the team have been able to trade Prescott for Stafford, given Prescott's skillset? We'll never know, but the Rams' path led to a Super Bowl win in the end. The issue now, is, how long will Stafford remain?
