Such lows are hard to take for the frustrated three-time world champion.
Van Gerwen's season has not been a total nightmare.
Most notably, he picked up his 38th Euro Tour title at the German Grand Prix in April, with a nine-darter to boot.
But the 36-year-old enters night 15 of Premier League Darts in Aberdeen on Thursday this week without a nightly win so far.

Howevger, he's still fourth in the Prem table - just ahead of Nathan Aspinall in the battle for a place in the Play-Offs on May 29.
So it's Mighty Mike's ProTour problems that might conceern him most.
And at Players Championship 15 he slumped 6-5 to German star Gruellich in the 23-year-old's home-country town of Hildesheim.
Yet MVG could consider himself lucky compared to English ace Andrew Gilding.

However, that was due to Gilding's flight rather than his flights.
The 54-year old didn't even make it to the tournament - as his flight was held up.
Gilding's social media team blamed "KLM'S last flight... being delayed by two hours".

Gary Neville has weighed in on Liverpool's quest to sign Wirtz, claiming they will have a big chance of retaining their title if they can pull off the signing, along with Kerkez. "I think when you're talking about winning the league, what is it that improves you? I mean, the only thing that's going to improve you when you win the league is signing world-class players, or players that have got the potential to be world-class players. So signing Wirtz is fantastic. "Frimpong and then there's talk of Kerkez as well, deals with their right and left-back situations. So to get those three done, if they were to get those three done quite quickly, would be smart business. But I wouldn't have expected anything else from Liverpool. Florian Wirtz has taken to social media to deny reports that he has requested the No.10 shirt at Liverpool ahead of a potential club-record move to the Premier League champions Florian Wirtz has slammed speculation that he's eyeing the legendary No. 10 shirt at Liverpool - but the Bayer Leverkusen star has dropped a huge hint on his potential club-record move to Anfield. Two bids have already been rejected and, while transfer talks progress, Wirtz appears eager to join the English giants. Sparking controversy, it was suggested earlier in the week that Wirtz desired the iconic No.10 shirt, currently donned by Alexis Mac Allister at Liverpool. With two seasons wearing the number at Bayer Leverkusen under his belt, the rumour mill implied he'd fancy a similar setup at Anfield. Yet, the 22-year-old has emphatically shut down such suggestions with a heated denial. Posting on Instagram, Wirtz shared a written message saying: "Who says I want the 10? I respect players. Don't believe everything what's written," accompanying his words with a clown emoji as if mocking the claims. His admission, however, does suggest that talks are still ongoing - and the player himself is aware of the speculation surrounding his future. Wirtz's potential claim on the shirt could have ruffled feathers, namely Mac Allister's, who was thrilled to snag the No.10 when he joined Liverpool a couple of years back.
