PM's Political Director: Strong families are key to a strong country

Budapest Times04-04-2025
Family support would include strengthening rural communities and infrastructure "so those wanting to live there suffer no disadvantages", Balázs Orbán said.
Balázs Orbán, the prime minister's political director, said strong families are key to a strong country.
Orbán made that admission during a conference titled Family formation and the future – the geopolitical, cultural and legal dimensions of demographic change, organized by the Danube Institute on Wednesday.
'Family is the foundation of society, and Hungary's government will do everything in its power to support those wanting to raise a family, and those who already have one,' Orbán said on the second day of the conference on Wednesday, adding that the government 'sees mothers as partners in that effort'.
Liberal values had led to the weakening of families and so to that of societies', Orbán said. 'They only way to restore national values is to return to traditional values, to strengthen local communities and revive patriotism,' he said.
Perspectives are changing in the West, too, Orbán said.
Regarding migration, Orbán said liberal migration policy had led to 'growing crime rates and intra-societal tensions'. Hungary had spent some 2 billion forints (EUR 5m) on border protection and built a fence, 'and now we have to pay a million euros a day just because we are protecting our borders,' he said.
Meanwhile, 'by weakening family values, the Western world is weakening itself and paying the price in falling birth rates,' he said.
Hungary, on the other hand, had built its 'whole politics and economy on families', he said.
Family support would include strengthening rural communities and infrastructure 'so those wanting to live there suffer no disadvantages', Orbán said.
He said he hoped that the Hungarian example would prove useful in other countries.

Tamás Menczer: Manfred Weber wants a pro-Ukraine puppet government in Hungary

Fidesz-KDNP Communications Director Tamás Menczer stated on Sunday that Manfred Weber, President of the European People's Party (EPP) and 'the political master of Péter Magyar,' wants to see a pro-Ukraine puppet government in Hungary carrying out Brussels' will. Menczer made the remarks in a post on social media, where he also shared a video of Weber declaring: 'Prime Minister Orbán, you are the past, Péter Magyar is the future.' Menczer highlighted that Péter Magyar has called it 'baseless' to suggest that Brussels aims to install a puppet government led by him. 'In reality, Manfred Weber, Péter Magyar's master, said clearly what he wants: a pro-Ukraine puppet government executing Brussels' orders,' the Fidesz politician wrote. He stressed that the Hungarian people 'do not want this and will not tolerate Weber dictating to them,' recalling that Hungarians have always rejected 'puppets serving foreign interests.' According to Menczer, the same fate awaits Péter Magyar and the Tisza Party. 'Their place is on the scrap heap of Hungarian political history, alongside their predecessors in the SZDSZ and Momentum,' Menczer said, adding that after the elections Magyar may find himself 'sharing a parliamentary group with András Fekete-Győr.'

Balázs Hídvéghi: Disinformation in the liberal media serves election manipulation

The spread of false reports in liberal media outlets is aimed at stirring tensions ahead of the upcoming elections, Parliamentary State Secretary Balázs Hidvéghi said in the online programme Harcosok órája on Monday. He underlined that 'the government will always point out manipulation.' Commenting on stories claiming 'no one visits Lake Balaton,' Hidvéghi said that if these claims had been true, 'for years no one would have been there except midges.' On critical reports about ageing Budapest buses, he said Mayor Gergely Karácsony had inherited significant reserves in 2019, which could have been used to improve transport instead of property purchases. Hidvéghi also criticised the opposition-aligned press for omitting favourable comments by Péter Magyar regarding a hospital in Székesfehérvár, stating: 'the verdict was written in advance.' He added that the liberal media environment is 'closed, uninterested in objectivity, staffed not by journalists but by political propagandists.' On speculation about Prime Minister Viktor Orbán's possible departure, Hidvéghi emphasised that 'the fate of the country is at stake' and decisions on foreign policy, migration, and family support must remain in the hands of the Hungarian Parliament. 'The election will decide whether sovereignty policy continues or whether foreign-serving politics prevails,' he said. The programme also featured József Horváth, director of the Sovereignty Protection Research Institute, who assessed the Alaska Trump–Putin summit and Western strategy in Ukraine. He argued that Europe's sanctions policy had failed to weaken Russia while causing a severe energy and economic crisis in Europe. Horváth warned that without compromise, Ukraine faces a tragic outcome, with depopulation and collapse looming. He also noted that Russia's defence industry can produce arms at several times the capacity and much lower cost than Western suppliers.

Csaba Dömötör: No foreign interference has any place in Hungary

No matter whether it comes from Russia, overseas, or 'any grey Brussels office,' there is no place for foreign interference in Hungary, Fidesz Member of the European Parliament Csaba Dömötör said Thursday on Facebook. Referring to comments by Tisza Party leader Péter Magyar alleging a Russian operation to influence Hungarian internal affairs, Dömötör noted that supportive media outlets had amplified these claims over a single Russian press release. He then posed a series of questions regarding sovereignty, asking why there was no outcry when 4.5 billion forints were sent from abroad to fund the opposition's campaign, or when Brussels leaders openly named preferred candidates for Hungary's elections. He also questioned the lack of reaction when EU funds were withheld for political purposes, and when billions were spent on NGOs, including unelected political activists, with further increases planned. Dömötör said that some of Magyar's local campaign events were organized with Brussels-funded 'civil organizations' that oppose Hungarian job-creating investments. Highlighting recent debates over banning foreign funding for public activities, Dömötör argued that those now decrying foreign interference are themselves 'part of and instruments of it.' 'Here, there has never been and never will be a majority for those whose politics, statements, and actions are dictated by outside expectations,' he said, adding that 'Péter Magyar remains Manfred Weber's man and candidate, regardless of public stunts.'
