E-sports athletes to undergo bootcamps before SEA games selection

KUALA LUMPUR (June 27): Malaysian e-sports athletes vying for a spot at the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand will undergo a series of bootcamps to evaluate their readiness and commitment.
Malaysia Esports Federation (MESF) president Muhammad Naim Al-Amin said the bootcamps, scheduled between September and November, will involve intensive training, match simulations, gameplay analysis, professional coaching, as well as mental preparation and patriotic elements
'Selection will not be based solely on current performance. Athletes must attend several bootcamps during which we will assess their performance and commitment before naming the final squad,' he said yesterday.
He also confirmed that eFootball Mobile will not be featured in the upcoming SEA Games.
Muhammad Naim said the host nation has confirmed four titles for competition: Mobile Legends Bang Bang, Arena Of Valor, FC Online and Free Fire.
'We will be competing in all four titles. At present, we have a longlist of players for each game,' he added.
At the previous edition in Cambodia, Malaysia secured two silver and two bronze medals in e-sports. The country last won gold in the discipline at the 2019 SEA Games in the Philippines through Dr Yew Weng Kean. – Bernama bootcamp e-sports Muhammad Naim Al-Amin Sea Games

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian swimmers made amends on the final day of the Southeast Asia (SEA) Championships in Singapore yesterday by splashing to three golds. Chong Xin Lin finally won a gold, in the girls' 16-18 50m backstroke with 29.42s, which also broke the long standing meet record of 29.76s set by Vietnam's Nguyen Thi Anh Vien in 2014. Indonesia's Alexandra Chelsea won silver (29.59s) and Vietnam's Nguyen Ngoc Thuy Tien was third (29.62s). Xin Lin had to settle for silver in the 200m backstroke on Thursday and fourth place in the 100m backstroke on Wednesday. National swimming coach Eric Anderson said: "Xin Lin swam the second fastest ever time in Malaysia for 50m backstroke and that's just an indication of where she is headed with the Thailand Sea Games in December. "Her peers are all there and it's all part of the learning process as we prepare for the Sea Games," he said. It was at the same pool in the Singapore National Championships last year, when Xin Lin clocked 29.33s to break the national record of 29.51s set by Caroline Chan back in 2016. Malaysia bagged two more golds yesterday. Ch'ng Saw Huai won the boys' 14-15 200m butterfly gold (2:09.21s) and Sheamus Chew won the boys' 13 and below 100m freestyle (56.06s).

Safee Sali steps down as PFAM president
KUALA LUMPUR: Former national striker Safee Sali announced his resignation as president of the Professional Footballers Association of Malaysia (PFAM) today, marking the end of his leadership since 2019. In a heartfelt two-minute video shared on Instagram, the 41-year-old said the decision was not an easy one, but it was time to make way for new, younger leadership. "I would like to wish everyone a blessed Awal Muharram. Hopefully, the new year brings strength and prosperity for a better life. "Secondly, this will be my final week as president of PFAM. It's not an easy decision, but I believe it's time to give space to the younger generation to take over." Safee said he hopes his departure will open the door for fresh perspectives and allow Malaysian football to grow with the players at the forefront. "Players are the key to moving football forward in Malaysia. I hope the new leadership will introduce innovative ideas and implement the necessary changes. I wish them the best of luck," he said. "My job is done. From 2019 to the present, I would like to thank all PFAM staff, especially Izham Ismail (PFAM CEO), and the players who have supported me. Good luck in the future, the future is yours." In a separate caption accompanying the video, Safee wrote: "Today, I officially announce my resignation as president of PFAM. It has been a fulfilling journey working alongside passionate individuals. I will continue to support PFAM in a new way and am excited to see what the future holds. Thank you all for the great memories." He also attached a statement thanking PFAM for the opportunity to serve, and expressed his belief in the potential of the next generation. "This decision did not come easily, but I believe it is time for me to step aside and allow the younger generation to take the lead," he said. Safee, who enjoyed a storied career at the club and international level, was appointed president of PFAM in 2019.
