Everyone's forgotten these celebrities once auditioned for The X Factor: From reality TV icons to popstars - and even an Olympian - these stars were determined to make it no matter what!

Daily Mail2 days ago
The X Factor was a reality TV juggernaught, enthralling millions of viewers with its annual battle to find the nation's next big popstar at its peak.
Created by Simon Cowell in 2004, the show helped to launch the careers of some of the UK's biggest stars, including One Direction, Little Mix and Alexandra Burke.
But the ITV talent show went on a hiatus after its 2018 series suffered a plunge in ratings. Three years later, Simon confirmed it wouldn't be returning.
While the programme kicked-off many glittering careers in showbusiness, you have probably forgotten these famous faces once tried their luck on the show.
Luckily we're here to remind you...
Max George
At the tender age of 16, and sporting a broken arm, The Wanted's Max George decided to try his luck on The X Factor.
Heading to the Salford's Lowry Hotel with his dad, Max auditioned in front of Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh and Sharon Osborne.
Max impressed the judges at the time, with Simon Cowell hailing him 'a young Robbie Williams ' - however he was cut from the show at the bootcamp stage.
One year later Max returned to The X Factor, this time as part of the boyband Avenue.
The band thoroughly impressed the judges and they sailed through to the live finals.
But Avenue landed themselves at the centre of a scandal when it was revealed they already had professional representation, which was against show rules at the time.
The band was brutally disqualified from the show as a result.
Max has since reflected on his first X Factor audition, and called it a moment which changed his life.
Speaking to the Manchester Evening News in 2018, he said: 'That day at The Lowry was when it all changed.'
He added: 'That night I told my dad there was an open audition for X Factor and I said I'm going to go. He took me down, and that was it then, I never looked back after that really.'
Mollie King
Before her success with The Saturdays, Mollie King tried to make a go of being a singer on The X Factor not just once, but twice
She rose to fame as one fifth of the band The Saturdays, alongside S Club Juniors stars Rochelle Humes and Frankie Bridge.
But before her success with the girl group, Mollie King tried to make a go of being a singer on The X Factor not just once, but twice.
She made her debut show back in 2005, but her attempts at singing left judges Sharon Osbourne, Louis Walsh and Simon Cowell less than impressed.
While Simon actually seemed otherwise quite taken with her revealing style, Sharon chastised her for her awful wardrobe choices after the so-so audition, that saw Mollie warbling through I Just Want To Make Love To You.
'I think you're dressed totally inappropriately,' the red-haired music manager said, to which boss Simon replied, 'Well, that didn't bother me too much!'
Mollie, who was 18 at the time, was clad in a slinky, draped metallic top and tiny white shorts that showed off the beauty's stunning frame, but it wasn't perhaps the right choice for an X Factor audition.
But that fateful visit in 2005 on the second series of the show - which was eventually won by Shayne Ward - wasn't the only time Mollie tried her best.
She returned in 2007 with girl group Fallen Angelz, this time with a far more urban and colourful look.
They ran into the small studio singing their hearts out and skipping along, something that seemed to thrill Simon.
Mollie and her equally badly-dressed cohorts shouted rather than sang a version of Avril Lavigne's Girlfriend, which caused quite the reaction from the judging panel, which this time included Dannii Minogue.
Jasmin Walia
Jasmin Walia started out on The Only Way Is Essex as an extra back in 2010, before becoming a full-time cast member two years later.
But after her TOWIE fame, Jasmin began her venture into the world of music and auditioned for The X Factor.
Jasmin failed to impress Simon Cowell, Mel B, Louis Walsh and Cheryl when she auditioned for the ITV show back in 2014.
She auditioned alongside her brother Danny Walia at Arsenal FC's Emirates Stadium in north London.
But sadly things didn't go her way and the aspiring singer ended up sobbing after being dealt four nos by the judges.
She told The Mirror at the time: 'I'm sure they had heard of TOWIE. I think they did grill me a bit because of who I am but I couldn't talk back to them at the time because I respect people.
'The X Factor was brutal but I just tried to take it all on the chin. I don't regret it. At the time, I was like 'Oh no' - I felt like I'd really let myself down.
'But do you know what? I just got nervous. It happens.'
However the reality star later proved her singing prowess in December 2016, when her performance as Princess Jasmine received rave reviews.
Bianca Gascoigne
The adopted daughter of former footballer Paul Gascoigne tried her luck on X Factoron the ninth series in 2012.
Before singing for Gary Barlow, Tulisa, Louis Walsh and guest judge Rita Ora, Bianca explained: 'This is really what I want, I love singing and hopefully they can see that when I walk on stage, you know that I really do care and that I'm going to be nervous because it means so much to me.'
However her version of I'm Goin' Down by Mary J. Blige failed to impress the judges and left her family in tears as they heard the remarks.
Gary kicked things off by saying: 'If I could compare you with the other 25-year-olds we've had it's really not good enough.
'What the other 25-year-olds have is that they've been singing like all their lives, seriously singing. At 25 you should be a lot better than that. In general it was a bit of a mediocre audition.'
Louis Walsh said: 'Bianca you haven't got a bad voice, you've got a great image you know but it's tough because we've got some amazing singers in this category already.'
Tulisa was also a lot more supportive as she tried to sugarcoat the bad news.
She said: 'I appreciate and admire the fact that you've come up and basically wanted to try something different and change the public's perception of you.
'I think you're a cool girl I've met you out a couple of times but I've got to be honest i don't think the vocals were strong enough for this competition.'
Guest judge Rita Ora gave the final negative comment and said: 'I can tell you were nervous but I agree with T, I think we've seen better singers.'
With each judge saying no, Bianca was sent home as Tulisa explained to Rita and Louis that she found that whole audition 'really awkward'.
Louis Smith
Not content with winning a bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, gymnast Louis Smith took his talents to the X Factor judges in 2009.
With no major competition until the autumn of that year, Louis decided to enter the contest after seeing an advert.
He belted out a rendition of East 17's If You Ever - but the judges were left unimpressed.
'It wasn't good enough,' said head judge Simon Cowell. 'I don't think you'll ever be good enough.'
He added: 'So stick to doing what you're brilliant at doing. For you to achieve what you've achieved at your age is incredible.'
Speaking to Radio Times about his attempt, he said: 'It was a bit of fun.
'I had to make a decision when I was eight and got offered a scholarship in singing either to do that full time or carry on with gym. I chose gym.'

Emmerdale airs Aaron and Robert reunion in ITVX release and reveals their future

The following article contains spoilers from an episode of Emmerdale that hasn't aired on ITV1 yet, but can be viewed (time and time again if you're a fan of the characters we're about to mention) on ITVX. Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) and Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) have briefly reunited in Emmerdale, and it's very possible they're going to do it again in the future. When Robert returned to the village earlier this year, he tried to stop Aaron's wedding to his distant brother John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth). Outside, Robert admitted that he still had feelings for Aaron, and they shared a kiss. Aaron felt that his future was with John though, which meant he had to put his connection with Robert to the back of his mind. As a result of this and not wanting to make John jealous, Aaron has tried to keep his distance, but that was impossible in today's episode. On Friday, John orchestrated a situation that made Robert shout at their nephew Harry. John had asked the young lad to play his toy drum around Robert, knowing the loud banging would trigger him. The plan worked in John's favour, because Robert snapped and scared the boy. John arrived right on time and hugged Harry, acting like the hero once more. With Harry out of the room, John made a great effort to tell Robert that his behaviour is totally unpredictable. John used this to his advantage again by telling Victoria Sugden (Isabel Hodgins) all about it. She confronted her brother in the latest instalment of the ITV soap, saying that she can no longer leave Harry alone with him. Prior to this, John had handed Robert a business card for a therapist but as far as he was concerned, Robert was beyond help. John twisted the knife in further by calling Robert a waste of space so when Vic confronted him, her words made him spiral even more. Unleashing his emotions, Robert completely trashed his bedroom. He ripped shirts up, smashed mugs, and very nearly hit Aaron with a vase, who had arrived after hearing the commotion outside. Aaron managed to calm Robert down. A while later, he spoke about his time in prison and how he's now accepted it has impacted him more than he realised. Robert and Aaron, dubbed Robron by fans, kissed shortly after this conversation. They ended up in bed together, and neither of them really wanted to leave, basking in the glow and enjoying the quiet, safe environment. As they chatted, Aaron missed a call from John, and failed to realise that he was outside the house. John was chatting to Vic, but neither of them entered due to other distractions. Back in the bedroom, Aaron and Robert chatted. They concluded that thinking about the sex and their chemistry wasn't the main priority now, because they are both living complicated lives. But, unlike Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) and Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick), there was a little bit of hope. 'God knows I've made you wait', Robert said. 'It's my turn to be patient'. Aaron put his hand on Robert's shoulder. They didn't really say much, but they didn't need to. It's obvious the connection they have still hasn't dissipated. Can you solve it? Are you a matcha for these tasty Japanese puzzles?

Japan is a world puzzle superpower. Its grid logic puzzles – like Sudoku, Kakuro, KenKen and many more – are played across the world by millions every day. The country also has its own culture of mathematical puzzles, nurtured by the Academy of Recreational Mathematics, Japan, which was founded in 1979. Today's problems are by Yoshiyuki Kotani, a founder member of the Academy and a professor of engineering at Tokyo University. They are taken from his new book, Tasty Japanese Morsels in Recreational Mathematics. 1. Squid game Two octopuses will face off in a boxing match. Each octopus requires eight gloves. (There is no distinction between left and right gloves.) The rules of octopus boxing stipulate that an octopus must only wear gloves of the same colour. There is a bag containing 16 red gloves and 16 green gloves. Find the minimum number of gloves that must be drawn at random from the bag to guarantee that the colours of the gloves of the two octopuses are (a) the same. (b) different. (c) either the same or different. 2. Sum-o wrestling. The diagram below represents a multiplication in which all but two of the digits have been replaced by stars. Reconstruct the computation. 3. Another boxing puzzle A restaurant uses 4 × 4 and 5 × 5 Bento boxes each divided into exactly eight square sections, as shown in the diagram below The chef has asked you to create Bento boxes with rectangular boxes. Each Bento must still have eight square sections, even though, as in the example, the square sections do not have to be all of the same size. Design a 4 × 6 Bento box, a 3 × 9 Bento box, and a 5 × 6 Bento box. I'll be back at 5pm UK. PLEASE NO SPOILERS. Please discuss your favourite Japanese things. Tasty Japanese Morsels in Recreational Mathematics by Yoshiyuki Kotani s published by the American Mathematical Association. All the diagrams above are taken from the book. I've been setting a puzzle here on alternate Mondays since 2015. I'm always on the look-out for great puzzles. If you would like to suggest one, email me. PS: Might anyone with computer skills be able to help me create a web page for a puzzle that involves dragging shapes around the screen? I hope to use the puzzle in a future column. Peter Andre's son Theo asks heartbreaking question amid Princess 'feud'

Peter Andre has revealed that his eight-year-old son Theo asked him a tough question during a family holiday last week, amid the 'feud' between him and ex-wife Katie Price. Peter Andre has revealed that his son Theo, eight, put him on the spot last week during their family holiday with a heart-breaking question. The Mysterious Girl singer, 52, took to his weekly New! Magazine column to share an update after his trip to Cyprus with wife Emily MacDonagh and their children, revealing how Theo asked if they could move abroad permanently. ‌ The request comes as Peter has been hitting the headlines this week for his strained relationship with ex-wife Katie Price, after their daughter Princess took to the screen with her own ITV show - which Katie claims to be blocked out of by Peter and his management team. While Princess Andre recently declared she's 'independent' from parents as she broke her silence amid the row. ‌ Taking his mind off of the drama, Peter said of his holiday: "We're home from beautiful Cyprus and life is back to normal. It's always incredible spending time with the family, especially in our Cyprus home because they have been going there since they were babies. It actually got too hot because there was a heatwave and it knocked us for six – even I struggled with it. But Theo in particular was very sad to leave and, as always, asked if we could stay or even move there." ‌ "Sadly, life doesn't always work like that and school is starting again soon! But he'll be counting the days until we can return – hopefully when it's a bit cooler." Peter shares Theo, Amelia and Arabella with his wife Emily, and eldest children Princess and Junior with Katie. While he kept quiet on the recent controversy surrounding Princess, he did share in the column how proud he is of the 18-year-old. "I'm extremely proud of Princess and her show. I think she's absolutely smashed it. She's come across just how she is and how we know her to be – funny, quirky and kind. The response to The Princess Diaries has been phenomenal," he said. Hopefully, she can do season two, three, four – whatever she wants to do– and soar like an eagle because she's a great kid and I'm so proud of her." While Katie often talks publicly about her children and ex Peter, the latter often stays silent on his former marriage. However, after Katie claimed on a recent podcast that their children live with her, amid other accusations, Peter took to Instagram with a statement. ‌ He wrote: "For 16 years, I have stayed silent in the face of repeated lies from my ex-wife and her family, out of respect for my children and loved ones, but staying silent has been incredibly frustrating. That ends today.' "The latest comments about my children's welfare and living arrangements compel me to set the record straight. For well-documented reasons, and for their safety, Junior and Princess came into my care in 2018 and remained with me until they reached adulthood. In 2019, the family courts issued a legally binding order to enforce this arrangement.' He added, 'I have never made this public before, out of respect for my children.' He went on to state that the courts found Katie 'had made false claims' on two separate occasions, in 2011 and 2015, and that 'she was ordered to pay substantial damages and legal costs, and to apologise to me and my management'. In a parting shot, Peter implied this was just the start of his fight-back, writing that her 'baseless accusations' would be 'dealt with in the coming months'.
