Daughter of Sir David Amess praises 'swift action' of counter-terror police's Kneecap investigation
The Metropolitan Police revealed on Thursday that its Counter Terrorism Internet Referral Unit has found "there are grounds for further investigation into potential offences" in connection to two videos of the rap group.
The first, believed to be from a Kneecap gig at London's Kentish Town Forum in November 2024, allegedly shows one member of the band shouting: "Up Hamas, up Hezbollah".
The second, thought to be from a separate concert in November 2023, reportedly sees another say: "The only good Tory is a dead Tory. Kill your local MP."
Sir David, Conservative MP for Southend-on-Sea, was murdered by Ali Harbi Ali at his constituency surgery in Leigh-on-Sea in October 2021.
It was the second murder of a British MP in less than 10 years, following the murder of Labour's Jo Cox by Thomas Mair in 2016.

Previously the Met said it was assessing whether the two clips of the Irish language trio met the threshold for an investigation.
Katie Amess said in response to their decision on Thursday to pursue an investigation: "Kneecap's rhetoric is not only abhorrent but poses a direct threat to the safety and well-being of elected officials and the democratic institutions they represent.
"The glorification and incitement of violence have no place in our society and must be unequivocally condemned.
"I commend the swift action taken by law enforcement agencies in addressing this and urge a thorough investigation to determine the full extent of any criminal activity."
She added that musicians "must be held accountable" for rhetoric that "incites violence and hatred" and that cultural venues should "not be exploited to propagate messages of hate".
, the group - made up of Liam Og O Hannaidh, Naoise O Caireallain and JJ O Dochartaigh - addressed the families of murdered MPs Sir David Amess and Jo Cox, saying: "We never intended to cause you hurt."
But Ms Amess accused them of "gaslighting", saying their comments were "absurd" and "not an apology".
Dozens of artists come out in support
Since the controversy emerged amid a backlash over their performance at US festival Coachella, in which they displayed the message "Free Israel. Free Palestine", more than 40 artists have come out to support them.
Paul Weller, Primal Scream and DJ Annie Mac are among the music stars to have signed an open letter claiming there has been a "clear, concerted attempt to censor and ultimately de-platform" the band.
Kneecap had their concert at the Eden Project in Cornwall cancelled on Wednesday.
In its statement on Thursday, the Met Police confirmed: "Both videos were referred to the Counter Terrorism Internet Referral Unit for assessment by specialist officers, who have determined there are grounds for further investigation into potential offences linked to both videos.
"The investigation is now being carried out by officers from the Met's Counter Terrorism Command and inquiries remain ongoing at this time."

Pitt Meadows Secondary teacher charged with child luring, child pornography offences
A high school teacher in Pitt Meadows, B.C. has been charged with multiple child exploitation-related offences, according to the B.C. Prosecution Service. Court records show 30-year-old Lovesh Ramsaha has been charged with four counts, including internet luring of a child under 18, making sexually explicit material available to a child, making child pornography and distributing it. Ramsaha had been teaching at Pitt Meadows Secondary. The prosecution service said the alleged offences occurred between August 2024 and February 2025 at or near Pitt Meadows. In a statement to CBC News, Ridge Meadows RCMP said they launched an investigation in February after receiving a complaint regarding alleged sexual offences involving a local teacher. Because the suspect was in a position of authority, police said investigators acted quickly and worked with the school district to take appropriate steps. Pitt Meadows Secondary principal Colin Sharpe informed families in a letter Friday that Ramsaha had been removed from his teaching duties "as soon as the district became aware of the allegations." CBC News has obtained a copy of that letter. "Please be assured that the safety and well-being of our students is always our highest priority," the letter said. The B.C. teacher registry shows an "undertaking not to practice" was placed on Ramsaha's file in March. Few other details have been released due to privacy reasons and pending criminal charges. CBC News has attempted to contact Ramsaha but has not heard back. Ramsaha is currently not in custody and his next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 21 in Port Coquitlam, B.C.

'Abusive' man who murdered partner before attempting to stage false scene convicted after police uncover lies
An 'abusive' man from west London who murdered his partner before attempting to stage a false scene has been convicted after police uncovered his lies. Rita Fleming, 70, was found by parademics unresponsive in a bath at her home in Maida Hill, Kensington on June 23, 2024 after being killed by Clifford Cowen, 59. She was fully dressed and covered in severe injuries, prompting the Metropolitan Police to launch an investigation. But Cowen claimed to have been concerned for Ms Fleming's welfare after looking through the letterbox of her property. He repeatedly insisted officers check CCTV footage to prove he had not been at the address, prompting police to arrest him at the scene. Detective Chief Inspector Alison Foxwell, who led the Met's investigation, said it soon transpired he was a 'controlling and abusive partner' who attempted to portray the pair's relationship as a loving one. Scotland Yard later uncovered messages and voice notes indicating that Cowen would regularly get drunk and verbally abuse Fleming. We understand how isolated victims of domestic abuse can feel Alison Foxwell Cowen was charged with murder and found guilty following the conclusion of a four-week trial at the Old Bailey, taking a jury just six hours to reach their verdict. DCI Foxwell added: "He attempted to cover up his actions with an elaborate alibi, however officers were able to unpick this along with evidence of his controlling and manipulative behaviour. Rita was much loved by her family and friends and I hope that Cowen's conviction gives them an element of closure. "We understand how isolated victims of domestic abuse can feel. We encourage anyone to contact police and report so we can support alongside our specialist partner agencies." Cowen, of Kensington Park Gardens, will be sentenced at Kingston Crown Court on September 1.

60 more people to be prosecuted for 'showing support' for proscribed Palestine Action, Met Police says
A further 60 people will be prosecuted for "showing support for the proscribed terrorist group Palestine Action", the Metropolitan Police said. This follows the arrest of more than 700 people since the group was proscribed on 7 July, including 522 in central London during a protest last Saturday. Stephen Parkinson, Director of Public Prosecutions, said: "The decisions that we have announced today are the first significant numbers to come out of the recent protests, and many more can be expected in the next few weeks. "We are ready to make swift decisions in all cases where arrests have been made." The Metropolitan Police said it has been working closely with Counter Terrorism Policing, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), and the Attorney General's Office "to process the case files, with more prosecutions expected in the coming weeks."Met Police said: "We have put arrangements in place that will enable us to investigate and prosecute significant numbers each week if necessary."Palestine Action was proscribed in July after the group claimed responsibility for damage to jets at RAF Brize Norton and was also linked to allegations of a serious assault on staff and police officers at a business premises in South Gloucestershire."Proscription of Palestine Action made membership or support of it a criminal offence."Last week, the Met confirmed the first three charges in England and Wales under Section 13 of the Terrorism Act, linked to Palestine Action, following the arrests of three individuals at a protest in Parliament Square on July 5.
