Ballon d'Or 2025 nominees: Full list including Ousmane Dembele, Lamine Yamal and Mohamed Salah
PSG's treble-winning season and maiden Champions League win means that members of Luis Enrique's squad dominate the nominations, with 10 players nominated including Dembele, Vitinha and midfield partner Fabian Ruiz and full-back duo Nuno Mendes and Achraf Hakimi.
Mo Salah and Cole Palmer headline the Premier League contingent, with the former producing a record-setting season as he led Liverpool to a record-equalling 20th top-flight title while Palmer was instrumental to Chelsea's victorious Club World Cup campaign.
Barcelona's domestic double and impressive Champions League run sees Raphinha and Pedri nominated alongside emerging star Yamal, while Scott McTominay is one of the new names on the nomination sheet, with the former Manchester United man having led Napoli to a Scudetto with 12 goals and six assists in Serie A.
The women's award – known as the Ballon d'Or Feminin – is dominated by players belonging to Euros finalists England and Spain, with 10 nominations between the two.
Unsurprisingly, Euro winners England have three nominees, including captain Leah Williamson, Chloe Kelly and Alessia Russo, who is among the favourites after also leading Arsenal to a second win in the Women's Champions League.
Two-time Ballon d'Or winners Alexia Putellas and Aitana Bonmati – the current holder – are among the favourites, with Patri Guijarro and Esther Gonzalez among the other Spanish players to earn a nomination.
The Ballon d'Or ceremonies takes place at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris on 22 September, with the main gongs presented alongside awards for the best young player (known as the Kopa Trophy), the best goalkeeper (the Yashin Trophy) and the best men's and women's coach and clubs.

Wolves paid an emotional tribute to their former player Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva ahead of their pre-season friendly against Celta Vigo at Molineux on Saturday. Jota and his brother passed away in a car crash in Spain on July 3. Wolves were playing at Molineux for the first time since the brothers passed away, with a minute's silence being held ahead of the game. Floral wreaths were also laid on the pitch. Jota initially joined Wolves on loan in 2017 before signing permanently the following year. He was part of the Wolves squad that won the Championship title in the 2017-18 campaign and went on to feature for the club in the Premier League prior to joining Liverpool. During his time at Wolves Jota made 131 appearances, while he scored 44 goals and provided 19 assists. Wolves are planning further tributes ahead of their opening game of the Premier League season at home to Manchester City next weekend. Celta Vigo won 1-0 against Wolves, with Pablo Duran scoring the only goal of the game.

Rampant Red Roses make World Cup statement with warm-up thrashing of France
England ran in six tries as they completed their preparations for the Women's Rugby World Cup with a 40-6 win over France. The Red Roses, who kick off their campaign against the United States at Sunderland's Stadium of Light on Friday 22 August, were made to work hard for a 27th successive victory in Mont-de-Marsan by a French side missing first-choice scrum-half Pauline Bourdon Sansus through suspension. England's forward power proved irresistible during the first half as they established a commanding lead, but having seen France all but reel them in before holding on to win their Six Nations grand slam decider in April 43-42, they headed for the dressing room taking nothing for granted. Sadia Kabeya provided the finishing touch to a fourth-minute rolling maul after second row partner Abbie Ward had secured possession at an early line-out, and hooker Amy Cockayne repeated the dose at the end of a powerful 15th-minute drive with Zoe Harrison adding the conversion. But catch and drive did the trick once again with six minutes remaining for replacement hooker Lark Atkin-Davies to go over, and she added a second three minutes later to allow Harrison to take her tally to 10 points with two more successful kicks.
