Trainee pilot dies after aircraft crashes in Gujarat's Amreli, probe on
A trainee pilot was killed after his aircraft crashed in Gujarat's Amreli district on Tuesday. The incident took place around 12:30 pm near the Giriya Road locality of Amreli town.
According to Superintendent of Police Sanjay Kharat, the pilot was on a solo flight and had taken off from the airstrip in Amreli before the aircraft went down, the cause of which is yet to be determined, news agency PTI reported.
"The trainee pilot was flying solo when the aircraft, a trainer model operated by a Delhi-based aviation academy, crashed into a residential area," said Kharat.
Eyewitness accounts suggest the plane hit a tree before crash-landing on an open plot near Shastri Nagar, which helped avert additional casualties. The aircraft caught fire after the impact, but no other injuries were reported.
Kharat said the aircraft was operated by a Delhi-based flying school with a training base at Amreli airport.
Firefighters from the local unit reached the scene and brought the blaze under control. A police investigation is underway, and an accidental death case is being processed.
"We received information about a plane crash at around 12:52 pm. The team immediately reached the spot as soon as the information was received. We controlled the fire. The pilot of the plane was seen inside. The pilot was sent to the hospital. The pilot died in the accident," news agency ANI quoted fire officer HC Gadhvi as saying.
Not the first case
Several trainee and young pilots have lost their lives in aircraft crashes recently during training missions. On April 2, Flight Lieutenant Siddharth Yadav, a 28-year-old Indian Air Force (IAF) pilot, died when his Jaguar fighter jet crashed near Jamnagar, Gujarat, due to a technical malfunction.
Earlier in 2025, three IAF fighter jets (including Jaguars and a Mirage) crashed during training sorties, resulting in one pilot death and other injuries.
In December 2023, an IAF flying instructor and a cadet were killed when their Pilatus PC-7 Mark-II trainer aircraft crashed during a routine training flight near Hyderabad.

SC junks plea of conman Sukeshs wife for expeditious bail hearing
Last Updated: New Delhi, Jun 12 (PTI) The Supreme Court has rejected the plea of Leena Paulose, wife of alleged conman Sukesh Chandrashekar, in a Rs 200 crore extortion case for an expeditious hearing of her bail plea in Delhi High Court. A bench comprising Justices Prashant Kumar Mishra and Manmohan observed her bail application was pending before the Delhi High Court and said, 'Considering that the bail petition is partly heard before the high court and is now posted for further arguments on July 2, 2025, we are not inclined to entertain this special leave petition. The special leave petition is, accordingly, dismissed." The top court on Wednesday added, 'It is expected that the High Court shall dispose the bail petition pending before it at the earliest and in accordance with law." Paulose moved the top court against a May 19 order of the high court, which posted her plea in July. Delhi Police has booked Chandrashekar for allegedly duping the wives of former promoters of Ranbaxy Shivinder Singh and Malvinder Singh of Rs 200 crore. Several separate investigations against him in the country are currently underway. Chandrasekhar and Paulose, who are also facing proceedings in a money laundering case of the Enforcement Directorate, were arrested by Delhi Police in the extortion case. Sangli: Just days after the gruesome Raja Raghuvanshi murder case sent shockwaves across the country, another chilling crime involving a newlywed couple has emerged, this time from Maharashtra, where a woman, married for just three weeks, allegedly killed her husband. The woman used an axe to kill her husband while he slept following a heated argument over the latter's insistence on consummating their marriage 15 days after the wedding. The incident took place in Sangli district on the night of June 10, officials confirmed on Thursday. According to the police, the couple -- Anil Lokhande and Radhika Lokhande -- were married on May 23. The officials mentioned that it was Anil's second marriage. His first wife had died of cancer. On Tuesday night, the couple engaged in a violent altercation over consummation that reportedly continued late into the night. Radhika was exasperated by Anil's insistence, and around midnight, when he retired to bed, in a sudden act of rage, she picked up an axe and fatally struck her husband on the head, the officials said. He died instantly, officials said. Shortly after committing the murder, Radhika reportedly called her cousin and confessed to the crime. Police arrested her on Wednesday and produced her before a magistrate, who remanded her to two days' police custody. A case has been registered against her under Section 103 (1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to murder. Police sources indicate that ongoing family discord may have led to the crime, though further investigations are underway to determine the precise motive. This shocking incident comes close on the heels of the sensational murder of Indore-based Raja Raghuvanshi during his honeymoon in Meghalaya. Raja and his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, were married on May 11 and had left for their honeymoon on May 20. Merely three days into the trip, both went missing. The case, which initially began as a missing person report, took a sinister turn when Raja's body was discovered in a deep gorge in Meghalaya on June 2. His autopsy revealed two severe head injuries -- one at the back and another on the front -- confirming a brutal murder. Further investigation uncovered a premeditated plot allegedly orchestrated by Sonam, her lover Raj Kushwaha, and three of his friends -- Akash Rajput, Anand Kurmi, and Vishal Singh Chauhan. On June 7, Sonam surrendered in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh. All five accused, including Sonam and Raj, confessed to the crime and have been remanded to eight days of police custody.
