SC junks plea of conman Sukeshs wife for expeditious bail hearing

New Delhi, Jun 12 (PTI) The Supreme Court has rejected the plea of Leena Paulose, wife of alleged conman Sukesh Chandrashekar, in a Rs 200 crore extortion case for an expeditious hearing of her bail plea in Delhi High Court.
A bench comprising Justices Prashant Kumar Mishra and Manmohan observed her bail application was pending before the Delhi High Court and said, 'Considering that the bail petition is partly heard before the high court and is now posted for further arguments on July 2, 2025, we are not inclined to entertain this special leave petition. The special leave petition is, accordingly, dismissed." The top court on Wednesday added, 'It is expected that the High Court shall dispose the bail petition pending before it at the earliest and in accordance with law." Paulose moved the top court against a May 19 order of the high court, which posted her plea in July.
Delhi Police has booked Chandrashekar for allegedly duping the wives of former promoters of Ranbaxy Shivinder Singh and Malvinder Singh of Rs 200 crore.
Several separate investigations against him in the country are currently underway.
Chandrasekhar and Paulose, who are also facing proceedings in a money laundering case of the Enforcement Directorate, were arrested by Delhi Police in the extortion case.
The police have also invoked the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) in the case.

Fake cop, who extorted couple, nabbed
Visakhapatnam: Pendurthi (Visakhapatnam) police have arrested fake cops, who have been collecting money from lovers and couples. Speaking at a media conference held here on Friday, CI KV Satish Kumar mentioned that fake police were collecting money through digital wallets from each couple and their demand ranged anywhere from Rs 2,000 to Rs 20,000. After receiving complaints from victims against a fake cop, Pendurthi police launched investigation. Fake police allegedly threatening couples travelling along Adavivaram-Sontyam road, that a case will be registered against them and extorting money from them. Following a complainant's information, police identified the accused based on his bank account details and arrested him at Saripalli check post. The CI said that the accused was identified as G Siva Prasad and earlier worked as Andhra Pradesh special police constable. He worked as a constable in 5th battalion and he was removed from service in 2019 due to bad conduct, he informed. Recently, the fake police collected Rs 5,000 from a couple under the jurisdiction of Pendurthi police station. The complainant was travelling with his relative. Similar cases have been registered against Siva Prasad in different police stations. The CI informed that about 10 cases were filed against him.

Fake doctor, real fugitive: Delhi conman busted while posing as AIIMS doctor in Haridwar; arrested after 10 years
NEW DELHI: For a decade, Delhi Police's Crime Branch had been chasing notorious conman Raj Kumar Sharma, wanted in multiple cases of cheating and forgery. The accused had disappeared, leaving deceit and financial crimes in his wake. His long-standing trickery — living a double life as a doctor — came to an end, however, when the cops tracked him to Haridwar in Uttarakhand. The pursuit began with a tip-off about Sharma's whereabouts. The Crime Branch team posed as patients, sought an appointment with the doctor and verified his identity. On the intervening night of June 11 and 12, the team nabbed him from his house in Haridwar. Sanjeev Yadav, DCP (Crime Branch), confirmed his arrest. "During interrogation, Sharma revealed his long-standing efforts to evade the law enforcement agencies. He frequently changed his appearances, address and mobile number to avoid detection. The accused had been living a double life, posing as a doctor in Haridwar while hiding his notorious past as a conman in Delhi," said Yadav. During a search at his residence, police confirmed he had been living as a respected medical professional, despite having no verified healthcare qualifications. Sharma's history of deceit dates back to 2007, when he was involved in a cheating and forgery case registered at the Crime Branch police station. He, along with five others, duped govt banks by taking vehicle loans on forged documents. He and his associates were arrested and a car obtained through fraudulent financing was also recovered from him. However, during the trial, Sharma stopped appearing in court and was declared a proclaimed offender in Dec 2016. In another case registered in 2015, Sharma cheated a person out of Rs 14 lakh by selling a plot with forged documents. "He defrauded two individuals by selling them a plot of land using forged ownership papers. To delay action, Sharma issued a cheque of Rs 26 lakh drawn on a bank account that had been closed years earlier," a senior cop revealed. The accused's profile reveals a man with a complex past. Born in Bulandshahr, UP, in 1973, Sharma studied up to BA from Meghalaya University. After graduation, he started publishing monthly magazines and newspapers in north Delhi's Burari. At present, he had no source of income and depended on ancestral agricultural income besides the fees from patients, cops said. The Crime Branch team, led by inspectors Mangesh Tyagi and Robin Tyagi and supervised by ACP Arvind Kumar, had been tracking the fugitive but he managed to remain under cover for a long time. Falguni's statement also reflected the general air of gloom among families gathered at the BJ Medical College to give their blood samples for DNA matching. Emotions ran high as many were seen breaking down or sitting still, trying to process the loss. 'Can the compensation ever bring back my father? My mother is sick, and she needs my father. I need his love and affection. I will pay Rs 2 crore to them if they can bring back my father, who always preferred travelling Air India,' Falguni said, while waiting to give her blood sample. Civil Hospital officials on Friday said that sampling of 219 persons was completed. 'Most of the relatives have provide samples. We also got a few foreign nationals. The DNA analysis of the human remains is also being carried out. Once the match takes place, identification will start. Then, the bodies will be handed over to the relatives,' said an official. Multiple teams have been deployed for the analysis of the DNA of the deceased, said officials. However, the procedure is likely to take 48 to 72 hours. The initial identification process may start by Saturday, they added. For Gujarat's forensic experts, this is the biggest challenge yet.
