Luke Littler and Luke Humphries back darts 'Royal Rumble' and agree format

Darts stars Luke Littler and Luke Humphries have discussed how a Royal Rumble-style event could take off in the sport and outlined a possible format for the tournament
Darts stars Luke Littler and Luke Humphries have expressed their support for a Royal Rumble-style event in the darts world. The question was posed during a joint interview, and both top players were keen on the idea.
For those unfamiliar with WWE, the Royal Rumble begins with two competitors in the ring, with surprise entrants joining the match at two-minute intervals. Given the exciting atmosphere at darts events and fans' fondness for walk-on music, Humphries and Littler believe the concept could be a hit in their sport with a few adjustments.

WWE enthusiast Littler proposed that the darts version of a Royal Rumble match would involve rapid-fire 501 legs. The victor of each leg would then face unknown opponents, unveiled by their walk-on music, continuously until a champion is declared.

When asked the question during an 'Agree to Disagree' game, Littler and Humphries immediately voted strongly to agree. "Have it!" Littler exclaimed as he joked about which player would make a comeback in the sought-after final slot.
"I think it'd be good," Humphries told Sport Bible. "You probably couldn't rank it or anything because you'd have to make sure you're not taking too much away from the seriousness of the sport. But I think it would be a good laugh, a good bit of fun. I think the fans would love it as well."
Discussing how he envisioned the tournament format, Littler said: "I don't think they could go above one leg, a 501. Straight away, one leg, the loser goes off and then the next player will do their walk on."

Darts prodigy Littler is an avid professional wrestling fan, as the world champion chose his walk-on song - 'Greenlight' by Pitbull after it soundtracked WrestleMania 33 in 2017. "Every WrestleMania has their own tune and Flo Rida sang it with LunchMoney Lewis, and I was there right up in the stands," Littler said.
Despite his passion for pro wrestling, Littler doesn't favour swapping darts silverware for wrestler-style championship belts. "I couldn't imagine getting a replica wrestling belt that said 'Darts World Champion' and putting it around my waist," he confessed. Fellow darts ace Humphries echoed this sentiment: "It's kind of fun, but for me it's all about trophies and they feel more prestigious."

Littler and Humphries are focused on battling for the Premier League title during Thursday night's Finals Night playoffs. Defending champion Littler is gearing up to battle Gerwyn Price in the semi-finals, while Humphries takes on Nathan Aspinall. The winners will then fight for the title in the Premier League final.
After the Premier League season concludes, Littler and Humphries will soon team up for England in the World Cup of Darts next month. Both players believe they can help England retain the World Cup trophy, following Humphries' success with Michael Smith last year.
"Didn't need a second to think about it," Humphries said when discussing his and Littler's chances at the World Cup. "Everything can happen in darts, it's tough, but the way me and Luke play, our rhythm.
"If we play to our potential, no offence to any of the opponents we play against, but I do think we'll be too good for them. If we play to our potential, I strongly agree that we will win the World Cup."
Meanwhile, World Cup debutant Littler is equally determined. "We'll want to win it back-to-back, and obviously I want to get my hands on it," he said. "The pressure's going to be there, and we don't know what's going to happen. If we turn up on the day, we'll win, but if we lose, we lose."

This beautiful, Spanish-style villa is just two hours from Sydney – and sleeps up to 15 guests

'One of the best weekends of my life' is a big call, but I reckon I've just come close. The first reason? I sat down to a long, sun-drenched lunch at Iron Gate Kitchen – Pokolbin's new Mediterranean-inspired restaurant – with seven of my friends. It was the kind of lunch where delicious plates of food keep on coming, stories are flowing, you're not entirely sure how many bottles of wine the table's had – and you don't really care. I love those lunches. The second reason is spending time with said friends. And the third? We spent the weekend at Iron Gate Estate, a Spanish-style villa set on a 25-acre, award-winning winery. I don't think MTV Cribs: Hunter Valley Edition is in the works, but if it was – this place would be on it. I can't overstate how beautiful this villa is. With a soft, sun-worn golden exterior, grand curved archways, terracotta tiles, a lush ultramarine pool, classic European fittings and fixtures, and gardens bursting with pretty florals, it looks like something you'd find in the Spanish countryside – and not two hours from Sydney. With seven bedrooms sleeping up to 15 guests, four bathrooms, multiple living spaces with two fireplaces – and both indoor and outdoor entertainment areas – Iron Gate Estate is also bloody huge. It's perfect for weekends away with friends (just like I did), but also birthday celebrations, family holidays and hen's weekends. And the fact that you have a beaut restaurant and cellar door just a stroll down the road is the cherry (or grape) on top. After lunch – and cocktails on the lawn at sunset – we retreated to the villa for chilled Champagne by the pool. We then made pizzas topped with sweet tomatoes, soft salty prosciutto and warm melted cheese. We danced in the kitchen and played Pick-Up Sticks around the fire. I didn't know where my phone was. I don't remember even thinking about it. We may have drunk more wine. Waking up wrapped in crisp white sheets, with views of the shimmering blue pool, well-manicured lawns and twisted vines, and the smell of bacon frying beckoning me from the kitchen, I felt blissfully happy – peaceful, loved, and, in even better news, I did not have a hangover. I already can't wait to come back to Iron Gate Estate. And the good news is you and your friends can stay here too. My tip: BYO pizza dough – it goes down a treat. Find out more here.

Arsenal discover deadline to trigger Eberechi Eze's transfer clause as three issues emerge

Arsenal are moving on to Eberechi Eze as their next top transfer target after landing Viktor Gyokeres, but the Gunners must move quick before the Crystal Palace star's release clause expires in the middle of next month Arsenal are facing obstacles in their bid to sign Crystal Palace playmaker Eberechi Eze after learning that his £68million release clause expires two weeks before the end of the transfer window. ‌ The Gunners have switched their primary focus to signing Eze after finally sealing a move for long-term target Viktor Gyokeres, but it won't be a simple transfer to complete. ‌ Eze is in high demand this summer after another superb campaign for the Eagles saw him lead the club to their first ever FA Cup triumph, starring in the 2-1 win over Manchester City at Wembley. ‌ Arsenal have been busy in this transfer as Mikel Arteta looks to finally break their cycle of agony in their bid for the Premier League title. Gyokeres is their sixth signing of the window, following the arrivals of Kepa Arrizabalaga, Cristhian Mosquera, Christian Norgaard, Martin Zubimendi and Noni Madueke - and Eze would add some added quality into their midfield. According to a report by BBC Sport, Arsenal have "genuine interest" in Eze but have not shown any indications that they plan on triggering his £68m release clause. ‌ The Gunners now have a number of issues to thrash through if they plan on getting the Eze deal. The first of those is that they'll have to race to secure his signature before the release clause expires in the middle of August. However, Arsenal value Eze lower than £68m and hope to strike a deal below the threshold - although they reportedly plan on selling one of their attackers before formalising a move for the England international. ‌ That would further delay a move for Eze, edging ever closer to the release clause's expiry date. Adding to the club's problems in such a deal is that Eze's favourite position is at No 10, where Arsenal are already well stocked with captain Martin Odegaard and Kai Havertz. That means Eze could be forced to move out wide to the left, a role he can play adequately in, but he would certainly lose the freedom he currently enjoys at Selhurst Park. Arsenal are currently on a pre-season tour of Asia, where they are preparing to face north London rivals Tottenham in Hong Kong on Thursday.
