The Museum of Islamic Ceramics Tucked Inside an Ancient Zamalek Palace
You've likely walked past it, admired its façade, perhaps even captured it in a fleeting photograph – yet have you ever truly questioned its presence? Tucked away behind the century-old trees of Gezira Street in Zamalek, the 1921 Palace of Prince Amr Ibrahim remains an architectural enigma to many. Beyond its ornate walls and graceful arches lies the Museum of Islamic Ceramics, a glazed repository of artistry and heritage.
As you stroll past, the palace's ribbed, pointed dome emerges like a pearlescent mirage amid the dense greenery. Its architecture unfolds in a carefully orchestrated sequence – first, a stepped portico welcomes you, leading to a trio of arches that form an elegant transitional space. Here, a grand wooden door adorned with intricate arabesque carvings stands slightly ajar, inviting you into a realm where history and craftsmanship intertwine.
Stepping inside, you are met with the soaring expanse of a double-height atrium, its scale both imposing and inviting. At the far end, a grand piano stands in quiet poise before a glazed ceramic chimney, a striking focal point that anchors the space.
Each hall unfolds like a world unto itself, yet a unifying rhythm binds them – a division etched into the very walls. The lower half is adorned with glazed tiles, their surfaces alive with floral motifs in deep blues and verdant greens, echoing the intricate patterns found on Islamic ceramic plates and urns.
In contrast, the upper half of the wall is a continuous expanse of engraved plaster, its sandy beige surface a canvas of meticulous craftsmanship. Every carved detail murmurs of a bygone era, a time when architecture, art, and craftsmanship were inseparable threads in the fabric of creation. Above, the ceiling extends this narrative, its plasterwork delicately sculpted into cascading patterns, enveloping you in a soft floral sea of ornamentation.
Venturing further, you now stand beneath the palace's dome, its surface alive with intricate carvings, stained-glass arched windows, and cascading muqarnas, each layer sculpting light into shadow. Suspended on the sides, on top of Carrara marble columns, a finely carved balcony juts out – a mystery in its own right. How does one reach it? The question lingers.
Through a narrow, dimly lit and carpeted staircase – discreetly tucked behind one of the doors on your right – you ascend to the upper floor, where the enigmatic hanging balcony awaits. The space unfolds around you, lined with glass cases in which ceramic artefacts stand in silent display, each inviting contemplation. This is where Persian-style ceramics reveal their refined forms and intricate glazes, their craftsmanship suspended in time.
Before descending, a warm glow from the far-right corner draws you in. It emanates from the Raqqa Ware room, dedicated to the Syrian ceramic tradition. Here, the space is imbued with a quiet opulence – furniture once belonging to Prince Amr Ibrahim rests in stately stillness, its golden embellishments, delicate wooden inlays and muted pale blues conjuring an air of regal elegance.

Happy Eid, Op-ed
Elham Aboul Fateh Happy Eid to you all! Today marks the second day of the blessed Eid al-Adha. Eid al-Adha is not merely a holiday filled with joy and delight; it is a sacred moment, recurring over thousands of years, to remind us of the greatest lessons of faith and sacrifice. The story of Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him), who said to himself, "Indeed, I am going to my Lord; He will guide me" (Surah As-Saffat: 99), as he prepared to carry out God's command to sacrifice his dearest possession, his beloved son, is a message that remains etched in our hearts and souls. His obedience was without hesitation, and his faith was unwavering, until Allah, out of His mercy, replaced the sacrifice with a magnificent ram. Thus, it was both redemption and mercy simultaneously. O Allah, Protector of the heavens and the earth, we ask You to protect our children and safeguard our country from all harm. Make our beloved Egypt a homeland of peace and glory, steadfast against fierce winds, strong by Your wisdom and mercy. O Allah, grant us a good ending, and grant us a sincere intention to build the earth with goodness and righteous deeds. O Allah, Most Generous and Merciful, You who hold dominion over the heavens and the earth, we ask You in these blessed days to protect our country from all evil and to lift every worry and grief from our homeland. O Allah, keep Egypt safe and resilient in Your care, illuminating its paths with the light of Your wisdom, and raising its banner of glory high and unshakeable. O Allah, keep our children and families in Your preservation and safety, guard them from every danger, and fill their hearts with tranquility and faith. O Allah, grant us strength of resolve, expand our provisions, and bless our time and deeds. O Allah, just as You commanded Prophet Ibrahim to obey You and brought him closer to You through sacrifice, make us also closer to You, and keep us firm on the path of truth and righteous deeds. O Allah, make all our days Eids – Eids of peace, security, and success. Protect our homeland Egypt from all harm, and make it a land of goodness, dignity, and prosperity. O Allah with whom trusts are never lost, O Allah with whom hope is never disappointed, all praise is due to You for Your countless blessings, and all thanks are due to You for Your unending grace. Amen, O Lord of the Worlds. May Egypt, its people and government, and the entire Islamic world be in peace and safety every year. read more Analysis- Turkey Has 0 Regional Allies... Why? The Arab League calls on the world to compel Israel to halt its aggression
Amir Hagag The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States (Palestine and Occupied Arab Territories) commemorates the 58th anniversary of the Naksa (Naksa), which marked a tragic turning point in the Arab-Israeli conflict following the 1967 Israeli aggression, which resulted in the occupation of the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, the Gaza Strip, and the occupied Syrian Golan Heights. The Arab League affirmed that the repercussions of this aggression continue to this day and are clearly evident in the bloody war waged by Israel against the Palestinian people for more than 600 days, particularly in the Gaza Strip, where the attacks have resulted in the deaths of more than 200,000 people, the majority of whom are women and children, in addition to the forced displacement of approximately two million Palestinians. The League warned against the escalation of the occupation's expansionist colonial policies and its grave violations of international law and international humanitarian law, including through illegal settlement construction, the demolition of homes, the confiscation of land, attacks on holy sites, and the imposition of a financial and political blockade on the Palestinian Authority. The General Secretariat reiterated its call for the international community to implement relevant UN resolutions, most notably Resolutions 242 and 338, and to compel Israel to halt its aggression, open the crossings immediately, allow unimpeded humanitarian aid, and provide the necessary support to UNRWA. It also called for effective international action to end the occupation and enable the Palestinian people to exercise their right to self-determination and establish their independent, sovereign state on the June 4, 1967, borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with the Arab Peace Initiative. The General Secretariat emphasized the importance of participating in the international peace conference scheduled to be held this month in New York, calling on countries that have not yet recognized the State of Palestine to take this step in support of the two-state solution and to ensure peace and stability in the region. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Australia Fines Telegram $600,000 Over Terrorism, Child Abuse Content Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Sports Neymar Announced for Brazil's Preliminary List for 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers News Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly Inaugurates Two Indian Companies Arts & Culture New Archaeological Discovery from 26th Dynasty Uncovered in Karnak Temple Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan
