Disha Salian death case: HC gants time to advocate facing contempt proceeding over his remarks on judiciary
Mumbai, Apr 29 (UNI) The Bombay High Court on Tuesday granted two weeks' time to Advocate Nilesh Ojha facing contempt proceedings for his 'scandalous and defamatory' remarks against a sitting HC judge during a press conference related to the Disha Salian death case.
A special five-judge bench, comprising Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justices A S Chandurkar, M S Sonak, Ravindra Ghuge and Ajey Gadkari, granted two weeks' time to Ojha and kept the matter for hearing on June 17 after Ojha's Advocate Ghanshyam Upadhyay, sought time to file an application seeking discharge of contempt proceedings.
The court was hearing a suo motu (on its own) contempt proceedings against Advocate Ojha.
On April eight, the HC had noted that the lawyer's statements in the conference held on April one were 'ex-facie contemptuous.'
The bench directed YouTube (Google LLC) and a Marathi news channel to 'forthwith' remove the video of the press conference and all related material.
Disha Salian's father, Satish Salian, had approached the high court last month through Ojha, seeking a fresh probe into the mysterious circumstances under which his daughter was found dead.
Disha, manager of the late Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput, died on June eight, 2020, after falling off the 14th floor of a residential building in suburban Malad.

Jammu, June 13 (UNI) For deepening academic engagement and enhancing the University's outreach to the youth and communities in far-flung areas of the region, Vice Chancellor Prof. Umesh Rai today said that the University of Jammu is poised to create history by convening its Academic Council Meeting—the apex academic decision-making body of the University—for the first time at its Bhaderwah Campus on June 15. Announcing the decision here at a curtain raiser press conference, Prof Rai emphasized that convening the Academic Council meeting outside the main campus reflects the University's evolving approach to inclusivity—by directly connecting with its regional campuses, students, and civil society. He underscored the vital role of offsite campuses in shaping academic vision of the University and integrating them into the mainstream of decision-making. Terming Bhaderwah as the oldest regional campus of the University, Prof. Rai emphasised its strategic role in catering to the academic aspirations of students from remote and hilly areas. Heads of Departments from the main campus, principals of affiliated colleges, academic representatives from other institutions, and senior deans from the University of Kashmir will participate in the meeting. The Council will also deliberate on several academic reforms such as Implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 at the postgraduate level from August 2025, Curriculum restructuring and a new credit framework for experiential learning, Promotion of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary programme design In addition to the Council meeting, the University has outlined a comprehensive series of parallel academic and community engagement activities. Prof. Rai informed that six thematic working groups have been constituted to develop policy inputs on critical focus areas including Multidisciplinarity in academics, Internationalization and global outreach, Skilling and entrepreneurship, Industry-academia collaboration, Start-up ecosystems and innovation, Strategic development of offsite campuses. These groups will present policy-oriented papers to help guide the University's long-term academic planning and institutional growth, he added. The Vice Chancellor further stated that such key academic and administrative engagements will also be conducted at other offsite campuses of the University, including Kathua, Udhampur, Reasi, and Poonch, in a phased manner. The aim is to foster stronger institutional linkages across all regional centres and make them active contributors in the University's governance and growth story. Other planned events include cultural programmes and interactions with civil society, aimed at building deeper community linkages and promoting public accountability. As part of this outreach, individuals from the local civil society who have made significant contributions in education, literature, and social development will be felicitated at Bhaderwah. Prof. Rai reiterated the University's responsibility as a publicly funded institution, committed to addressing regional needs through collaborative dialogue and inclusive participation. Another major announcement made by the Vice Chancellor was the University's plan to launch undergraduate programmes at the main campus. Bombay HC defers Celebi's appeal against Mumbai Airport's contract termination, awaits Delhi HC ruling
The Bombay High Court on Friday (June 13, 2025) has adjourned till July 10, 2025, the hearing of the petition filed by Celebi NAS Airport Services India Pvt Ltd, a Turkish-Indian joint venture providing ground handling services for airlines at various Indian airports, that has challenged the termination of its services by the Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL). The firm that has been providing services at various Indian airports, has faced multiple legal battles in Mumbai, Delhi, Gujarat and Chennai. On Friday, a Division Bench of Justices B. P. Colabawalla and Firdosh Pooniwalla was informed that overall, seven airports in India have cancelled the services of the Turkish airlines services firm and its subsidiaries. Representing the Union government, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta submitted to the Bench that the Turkish aviation firm has already filed similar petitions in the Delhi High Court and the Madras High Court seeking relief. 'The Delhi High Court has reserved its order after hearing extensive arguments from both sides. Thus, the Madras High Court has passed an order stating it will await the judgment of the Delhi High Court, since similarly worded arguments are made before Delhi High Court and its findings will have an impact on the issues in all the petitions,' Mr. Mehta told the judges and requested the Bench to consider passing a similar order and defer its proceedings until the Delhi High Court pronounces its verdict. Appearing for Celebi, senior advocate Chetan Kapadia, agreed with the Solicitor General's submission. The Bench considered the request and noted that it will wait for the Delhi High Court's verdict and adjourned the hearing till July 10, 2025. On May 26, 2025, the Bombay High Court restrained MIAL from finalising bids on May 17, to appoint a new agency and replace Çelebi's subsidiary for ground and bridge handling services at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. The High Court said that its order will operate until the matter is heard by a regular Bench after the vacation. Celebi moved the Bombay High Court after the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), under the Ministry of Civil Aviation, revoked its security clearance on the grounds of national security, amid heightened diplomatic tensions between India and Turkey, particularly over Turkey's stand in support of Pakistan during the Operation Sindoor. Celebi has filed three petitions, challenging the Centre's decision to revoke the security clearance and contract termination by the MIAL, terming the termination 'arbitrary' and 'illegal'.
