Bombay HC grants Maharashtra Govt time to respond to petition in Disha Salian death case

The Bombay High Court has granted the Maharashtra government time until June 15 to file a response to a petition by Satish Salian, the father of late celebrity manager Disha Salian. Salian had filed the petition last month, requesting the registration of an FIR against Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray and asking for the investigation into his daughter's death to be transferred to the CBI. Disha, a celebrity manager who worked with high-profile clients like actor Sushant Singh Rajput , died on June 8, 2020, after falling from the 14th floor of a building in Malad. The Mumbai Police initially registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) for the case. Her demise got tangled into the tragic death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, who passed away six days later, on June 14. The actor was found hanging at his Bandra home, which led to widespread speculation surrounding both deaths. Satish Salian's petition on Disha Salian's death During a hearing on Wednesday, a bench of Justices SV Kotwal and SM Modak gave the Maharashtra government time until June 15 to file a response to Satish Salian's petition. In the petition, Salian claimed that his daughter, Disha, was "brutally raped and murdered" and that her death was part of a political cover-up to protect influential people. He also accused the Mumbai Police of hastily closing the case as a suicide or accidental death without properly considering forensic evidence, circumstantial proof, and eyewitness testimonies. The Bombay High Court on Wednesday sought the response of the Maharashtra government in four weeks on a plea filed by the father of Disha Salian, the former manager of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, in her death Maharashtra government told the court that since a "direct relative" of Disha Salian came to the forefront, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed to probe her death case should look into December 2023, the state government constituted a SIT to investigate the Disha Salian death case. However, the team has not yet come up with a report and is carrying on with its enquiry. Public Prosecutor Hiten Venegaonkar, appearing for the state government, submitted that one round of enquiry was already over when an Accidental Death Report (ADR) was registered soon after Disha Salian's death. He said a closure report was filed after the ADR a SIT was formed and it was looking into the complaint filed by Satish Salian, the father of Disha Salian, said Venegaonkar. "We are required to go into all this," he said, adding that instructions have to be taken on the sought permission to file an affidavit in reply to the petition filed by Satish Salian. A bench of Justices Sarang V Kotwal and SM Modak directed him to do so within four bench also granted liberty to Satish Salian's lawyers, Tanveer Nizam and Nilesh Ojha, to approach the vacation bench in case of urgency. Nizam submitted, "The government is with us. The SIT is investigating the case, but how can an investigation proceed without a FIR? We are seeking registration of an FIR on the complaint of Satish Salian."Nearly five years after the death of Disha Salian, Satish Salian approached the High Court, seeking the registration of the FIR against Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray and others. Disha Salian was found dead two days before the actor is alleged to have died by suicide on June 14, 2020, Mumbai Police claimed that Disha Salian allegedly ended her life by jumping from the 14th floor of a high-rise building in Malad. At that time, Satish Salian told the police that he did not suspect any foul play and was "completely satisfied" with the investigation by Mumbai now the plea states that despite the police claiming that Disha Salian had fallen from the high-rise, there was not a single fracture she suffered, which elevated her father's suspicion. "The photographic evidence proves that the official post-mortem report was tampered with to match the fabricated suicide narrative created by the accused and the complicit police officers," the plea plea said that "the official autopsy report was altered under political pressure to protect the accused", and that "her body was moved to the scene after the murder to stage a suicide". It said that there was no blood spot on the spot of incidence, which is not possible when a body falls from such a height. IN THIS STORY#Maharashtra

The Bombay High Court on Wednesday granted the Maharashtra government time till June 15 to file an affidavit in response to a petition filed by Satish Salian, father of the late celebrity manager Disha Salian. Salian approached the court last month seeking the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray and the transfer of the investigation into the death of his daughter to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Disha Salian, who had managed several high-profile clients, including actor Sushant Singh Rajput, died on June 8, 2020, after falling from the 14th floor of a residential building in Malad. After Satish Salian's petition came up for hearing on Wednesday, a bench comprising Justices S.V. Kotwal and S.M. Modak granted state government time till June 15 to file an affidavit. In the plea, Salian alleged that his daughter was 'brutally raped and murdered' and claimed that her death was part of a politically motivated cover-up aimed at shielding influential individuals. "The Mumbai Police hastily closed the case as a suicide or accidental death without adequately considering forensic evidence, circumstantial proof, and eyewitness accounts," the petition stated.

Disha Salian death case: HC gants time to advocate facing contempt proceeding over his remarks on judiciary

Mumbai, Apr 29 (UNI) The Bombay High Court on Tuesday granted two weeks' time to Advocate Nilesh Ojha facing contempt proceedings for his 'scandalous and defamatory' remarks against a sitting HC judge during a press conference related to the Disha Salian death case. A special five-judge bench, comprising Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justices A S Chandurkar, M S Sonak, Ravindra Ghuge and Ajey Gadkari, granted two weeks' time to Ojha and kept the matter for hearing on June 17 after Ojha's Advocate Ghanshyam Upadhyay, sought time to file an application seeking discharge of contempt proceedings. The court was hearing a suo motu (on its own) contempt proceedings against Advocate Ojha. On April eight, the HC had noted that the lawyer's statements in the conference held on April one were 'ex-facie contemptuous.' The bench directed YouTube (Google LLC) and a Marathi news channel to 'forthwith' remove the video of the press conference and all related material. Disha Salian's father, Satish Salian, had approached the high court last month through Ojha, seeking a fresh probe into the mysterious circumstances under which his daughter was found dead. Disha, manager of the late Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput, died on June eight, 2020, after falling off the 14th floor of a residential building in suburban Malad. UNI AAA SS

Sushant would not have committed suicide, father reveals

Listen to article The father of late Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput has reiterated that his son could not have died by suicide, expressing confidence in the judicial process ahead of a key Bombay High Court hearing. Speaking to reporters in Patna, KK Singh said he believed local residents knew the truth about his son's death and expected justice under Maharashtra's new government. 'People in Patna know what happened. The truth will come out in court,' he said. The Bombay High Court is scheduled to hear a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) on February 19, seeking further investigation into the case. The plea also calls for the arrest and questioning of Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aditya Thackeray, who has been linked to the deaths of Rajput and his former manager, Disha Salian. Sushant was found dead in his Bandra apartment in June 2020, with initial reports terming it a suicide. He was found hanging at his Bandra home. Some of his friends were also at home when his body was discovered. The door of his room was broken and he was found hanging. According to initial police reports, he was suffering from depression for the past six months. A rising star, Sushant had made a name for himself on the small screen with Pavitra Rishta, where he played the lead role, before jumping to the big screen. His film Kai Po Che was based on Chetan Bhagat's bestselling book The Three Mistakes of My Life. The film catapulted Sushant from being a smalltown boy, to becoming a known name over night. Following this, he went on to work in Shuddh Desi Romance with Parineeti Chopra, and then did several other films. The actor's last film, Dil Bechara, was released posthumously. The actor's former manager Disha Salian was found dead a few days ago before his death. Sushant's family and supporters continue to insist it was a planned murder and not suicide. His father maintains that he has "full faith in the court" and hopes for a fair outcome.
