2025 English Premier League Predictions: Top 6 Rankings
English Premier League 2025 English Premier League Predictions: Top 6 Rankings Updated Aug. 15, 2025 10:17 a.m. ET share facebook x reddit link With the 2026 FIFA World Cup under a year away, all eyes will be on the upcoming English Premier League campaign, which kicks off today with a matchup between Liverpool vs. Bournemouth. The EPL is home to some of the biggest and brightest stars in world soccer, many of whom will star for their countries in next summer's 48-team tournament in Canada, Mexico and the United States. EUROPE'S BEST TEAMS: WHERE BARCELONA, PSG, LIVERPOOL RANK AMONG TOP 20 Liverpool lifted the Premier League trophy last season after an outstanding 84-point season and added more attacking talent this season with big-money transfers for Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz. But is this the year Arsenal finally lift the trophy? Can Manchester City reclaim their throne? ADVERTISEMENT Let's take a look at the top of the Premier League and where each team ranks entering the season: Note: League positions reflect last season's finish. Last year, the Reds ran away with the Premier League title, besting second-place Arsenal by 10 points. Despite the tragic death of forward Diogo Jota, Liverpool has only gotten better this summer. Arne Slot's side has been the big winner of this transfer window, dropping north of $350 million on backup keeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, defenders Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez, and forwards Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz. No wonder they're the favorites to retain the English title. After finishing fourth in the Prem last term, the Blues stunned many by winning the expanded, 32-team Club World Cup in July. Can they harness that momentum and use it to challenge for English and European titles next spring? They've got the firepower. Chelsea already have an emerging superstar in winger Cole Palmer — this season he'll be supported by new recruits like strikers Liam Delap and João Pedro, Pedro's fellow Brazilian attacker Estêvão, and English forward Jamie Gittens. The Premier League runner-up in each of the last three seasons, what Mikel Arteta's team is missing at this point are trophies. Still, Arsenal continues to improve. The Gunners knocked then-Champions League holders Real Madrid out of Europe's top club tournament last April, snaring a convincing 5-1 aggregate win. And they've added real quality this summer in the form of defensive midfielder Martín Zubimendi and forwards Viktor Gyökeres and Noni Madueke. City's unprecedented run of four consecutive Premier League titles came to a halt last season, when Pep Guardiola's side finished third, lost the FA Cup final to Crystal Palace, and were eliminated from European play before the Champions League's round of 16 even began. This team is too good not to bounce back in a big way this year, though — even without club legend Kevin de Bruyne, whose contract wasn't extended. The Magpies eked into the Champions League places last term only because UEFA granted England's top flight one additional spot. Newcastle fans aren't complaining though, though they will be if and when star forward Alexander Isak leaves for Liverpool on the eve of the new season. It's hard to believe that the 20-time English champions finished 15th last season, when they also lost the Europa League final to Premier League rivals Tottenham. But the Red Devils added forwards Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Šeško this window, and they should fare better in Ruben Amorim's first full season at the Old Trafford helm. Bryson DeChambeau's LIV Golf Status Sidelines Him From Ryder Cup Warm-Up
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Bryson DeChambeau has been one of the most dominant American golfers this season. With a win in Korea, seven top-10 finishes on the LIV Golf circuit, and top-five performances in three majors, he's earned his place on Team USA, as confirmed by Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley after The Open. (Photo by) More Getty Images It will mark DeChambeau's return to Ryder Cup action after being left off the 2023 squad by former captain Zach Johnson. But while his spot on the team is secure, his path to preparation is not. Earlier this summer, Bradley announced his intention to get his team to tee it up at the Procore Championship, a PGA Tour event in Napa, which is scheduled to take place just two weeks before the Ryder Cup. The idea was to keep the players sharp, build chemistry, and avoid the rust that plagued the Americans in Rome two years ago. "No one is required to go," Bradley clarified to Sports Illustrated. "But the boys feel like this is the best course of action to be ready to play at their highest level at Bethpage". Scottie Scheffler, who leads the Ryder Cup standings and shot a 66 in the opening round of the BMW Championship this week, has already committed to playing in Napa. "Outside of some extenuating circumstances, I'll probably be playing in Napa," Scheffler told reporters on Thursday. "It's important for me to get out and get some competitive reps before the Ryder Cup. I felt like last time was maybe a bit too much time off." But for DeChambeau, that door is closed. "Well, he's suspended," Bradley stated on Thursday after teeing at the BMW Championship. "And that's out of my control." As a LIV Golf member, DeChambeau remains ineligible for PGA Tour competition. A Tour spokesperson confirmed to Sports Illustrated that he "is not eligible for PGA Tour competition." Even with a sponsor's exemption, he would need formal permission from the Tour, something that appears unlikely. "I thought the Ryder Cup sort of transcends all of this," Bradley added, as per reports. "And really, the last thing on my mind is the PGA Tour-LIV stuff." Additionally, DeChambeau's agent, Brett Falkoff, told Sports Illustrated that "Bryson plans to participate in every team gathering that he is permitted to attend." With just days left between the end of the LIV season and the Ryder Cup, DeChambeau may seek competitive reps elsewhere. The DP World Tour's Irish Open, held the week before Napa, is a possibility, though he'd need an invitation. Currently ranked No. 5 in the U.S. Ryder Cup standings with 10,774.98 points, DeChambeau is projected to qualify automatically. He also holds the No. 17 spot in the Official World Golf Ranking, despite LIV events not awarding OWGR points. Bradley remains optimistic about DeChambeau's readiness. "It's sort of been on Bryson to come to us," he said as quoted. "And he's been great about that. Bryson is going to keep himself ready. That's who he is."
