IDF targets Hamas, PIJ explosives, observation posts in bid to stop ambushes on troops
The IDF has dismantled numerous Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad explosives and observation posts used to ambush troops in the areas of Shejaia and Zeitoun in Gaza City over the past two days, the military said Saturday.
The Israeli air force killed dozens of terrorists operating in the same area.
In the area of Beit Hanun, soldiers killed numerous terrorists and dismantled terror infrastructure above and below ground, and weapons.
On Tuesday, the IDF announced that five soldiers were killed, and 14 were wounded in Beit Hanun by an explosive device, most of them from the Netzah Yehuda Battalion in the Kfir Brigade.
Hamas had placed improvised explosive devices just before the soldiers entered the area between Air Force and artillery barrages that were conducted in order to pave a safe path for the infantry, according to the IDF.
The Air Force struck a total of about 250 targets throughout Gaza in the past two days, including terrorists, booby-trapped structures, weapons storage facilities, anti-tank missile launch sites, sniper posts, tunnels, and more.
There have been several soldiers who were killed throughout Gaza by explosives planted by terrorists, ambushes, snipers, and anti-tank missile fire.
The IDF announced on Wednesday that St.-Sgt.-Maj. (res.) Abraham Azulay was killed in Khan Yunis in Gaza after terrorists emerged from a tunnel and tried to abduct him.
Last week, the IDF announced the death of Sgt. Asaf Zamir, who was also killed in Khan Yunis when a terrorist fired an anti-tank missile at the tank he was in. In the same incident, four soldiers were wounded.

Sa'ar: European FMs admit pressure on Israel was a mistake, emboldens Hamas
The foreign minister added that several European countries today have "a huge Muslim population" that affects government policies, but this wouldn't allow Israel to "commit suicide." Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar on Tuesday said that 'more than one European foreign minister' has told him that signing the letter condemning Israel's war in Gaza was a mistake, and it emboldened Hamas's stance in ceasefire talks. The letter was signed by the UK and more than 20 other countries, calling for animmediate end to the war in Gaza and criticizing the Israeli government's aid delivery model after hundreds of Palestinians were reportedly killed near sites distributing food. 'International pressure on Israel is only hardening Hamas's stance; global pressure must be on Hamas to free the hostages and lay down its arms,' he said. Sa'ar added that military pressure in Gaza is effective, but it is not the only option, adding that Israel is also ready to use diplomacy. Egypt and Qatar, which have mediated Gaza hostage-ceasefire talks, said that there has been progress in the talks, but the latest round of negotiations in Doha broke off last week without a deal in sight. 'Hamas not only steals aid; they are profiting from it and using [the] funds as a financial resource during the war,' Sa'ar added. 'We are witnessing a distorted campaign of international pressure against Israel over recent days,' the foreign minister said, noting that this campaign is fueling rising antisemitism. Sa'ar addresses claims Israel starving Gazans, calling situation 'tough' He also addressed the recent claims that Israel has been forcefully starving Gazans, saying that while the situation is 'tough,' the idea that Israel has implemented a 'starvation policy' is a lie. 'The reality is the opposite; Israel is working very hard under very complicated circumstances to facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza.' Regarding the recognition of Palestinian statehood, Sa'ar said, 'Establishing a Palestinian state today is establishing a Hamas state, a jihadist state.' He criticized France's foreign minister, who, while in New York on Monday, said that Europe 'must pressure Israel to accept a two-state solution.' "But this cannot and will not lead Israel to commit suicide," Sa'ar said. Solve the daily Crossword

The situation in Gaza was a 'strategic failure', Lapid says
The opposition leader said that the situation in Gaza was a 'strategic failure, which has led to operational and diplomatic failure.' 'Intelligence and operational information' reveal that 'the government has failed in the war in Gaza,' opposition leader MK Yair Lapid said at a press conference in Tel Aviv on Monday evening. Without elaborating on what intelligence he was referring to, he said that the situation in Gaza was a 'strategic failure, which has led to operational and diplomatic failure.' According to Lapid, 'The Israeli government no longer knows how to justify why soldiers continue to die in Gaza.' 'If we do not end the war now, the hostages will not return, the IDF will continue to lose its best fighters, the humanitarian disaster will intensify, and the world will shut its doors to Israelis. 'This is not inevitable. There is another way,' the opposition leader said. He mentioned a plan that included a comprehensive hostage deal, in which 'Israel should exit Gaza, with the IDF positioned around the perimeter and operating from there to dismantle Hamas. Gaza would be administered by a coalition of moderate Arab nations led by Egypt.' However, the government, led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, has not worked towards that goal and 'refuses to discuss how the war should end,' Lapid said. 'The military campaign is out of control. We are conquering Khan Yunis for the fourth time, Jabaliya for the third. Each time we pull out, Hamas returns, lays traps along the routes and homes, and waits for our return,' he said. 'The strategy for freeing the hostages has failed,' the opposition leader said. 'Military pressure hasn't brought them back. Blocking food and medicine from Gaza won't bring them back. Endless negotiation over partial deals won't bring them back. What will bring them home is ending the war.' Lapid: 'Humanitarian aid management in Gaza has collapsed' Lapid added that 'humanitarian aid management in Gaza has collapsed. It simply doesn't work. Israel must ensure there is no hunger in Gaza. This is not only because it aligns with Jewish values – it's also because there's no reason to assist Hamas's propaganda campaign. 'All this is happening because the government hasn't defined what the endgame in Gaza is. [Finance Minister Bezalel] Smotrich and [National Security Minister Itamar] Ben-Gvir want military rule and eternal war, and for our tax money to fund Gaza's residents. That's not a plan – it's a disaster,' Lapid said. 'This war must end. In exchange for a complete ceasefire, there will be a comprehensive hostage deal – for all of them, down to the very last. Israel will gain twice over: we'll bring our hostages home, and we'll end a war that's no longer going anywhere,' the opposition leader concluded. In response to reporters' questions, Lapid said that there were 'pockets' of starvation in Gaza, and added that while Hamas has commandeered some of the aid and contributed to the humanitarian crisis, Israel had ultimate responsibility for the Strip and its inhabitants. The press conference came hours after US President Donald Trump contradicted a claim by Netanyahu that the charges of famine in Gaza were false, and said that Israel 'has a lot of responsibility' for limiting aid. The press conference also came hours after an official confirmed to The Jerusalem Post that Netanyahu's decision to enable 'localized humanitarian ceasefires' had led to a serious crisis between him and Smotrich.
