Saudi Arabia's Hajj Minister to Asharq Al-Awsat: No Effort Spared in Serving the Pilgrims

Asharq Al-Awsat2 days ago

Saudi Minister of Hajj and Umrah Dr. Tawfiq Al-Rabiah stressed that the Kingdom is keen on providing the best services and procedures to the Hajj pilgrims.
In remarks to Asharq Al-Awsat, he said that no effort has been spared in serving them.
The Hajj and Umrah Ministry had sought during its preparations for this year's Hajj to coordinate with Hajj affairs offices from across the globe. It held 78 preparatory meetings that helped in elevating readiness and coordination with concerned authorities.
All this aims to allow the pilgrims to perform the rituals smoothly and at ease, stressed the minister.
Moreover, Al-Rabiah highlighted the Masar Nusuk app that played a role in documenting and organizing service providers, ensuring a fair and transparent operational environment.
The ministry is keen on providing high quality services at appropriate prices and achieving operational sustainability in line with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, he added.
The ministry has so far received over 1.5 million pilgrims from across the globe, he revealed.
Al-Rabiah also underlined the cooperation between his ministry and Interior Ministry in implementing the 'No Hajj without a Permit' campaign.
The campaign aims to preserve the security and safety of legal pilgrims and prevent any violations or victims of Hajj scams, he said.
The Nusuk app has played a role in documenting the personal and health information of pilgrims, as well as their residency status, he explained.
The app acts as an ID for the pilgrims as they move from one holy site to another during the Hajj, he went on to say. This has helped limit violations.
Al-Rabiah noted that his ministry sought to tackle challenges early on, such as the preparedness of infrastructure and modernizing services for the pilgrims.
Over 62,000 inspection tours have been held and some 6,300 reservations have been made and dealt with immediately, reflecting a keenness on ensuring quality of services, Al-Rabiah said.
Al-Rabiah also revealed that efforts have been made to boost environment sustainability at the Hajj. Over 170,000 square meters of area have been provided with shade from the sun and 20,000 plants have been planted to provide vegetation cover and reduce temperatures.
Efforts have also been exerted to limit the use of plastic and increase reliance on clean sources of energy, he added.
Hajj services are also benefitting from advanced technologies and artificial intelligence, said Al-Rabiah.
They are being used in crowd management, analyzing data and other areas. The Nusuk app has been developed to become a 'digital companion' to the pilgrims, boasting over 100 services, Al-Rabiah said.
The Hajj and Umrah Ministry is constantly following up on new technologies to benefit from them in servicing the pilgrims, he stressed.
On approval ratings for the Hajj, the minister revealed that the rate increased from 74 to 97 percent in the past three years, including this Hajj season.
On whether other countries have reached out to Saudi Arabia to benefit from its experience in organizing such a massive event as the Hajj, Al-Rabiah confirmed that his ministry held the Hajj and Umrah Conference and Exhibition to that end.
Delegations from 100 countries took part and over 670 agreements were signed for countries to benefit from Saudi Arabia's expertise, Al-Rabiah stated.

Madinah completes preparations to receive pilgrims via bus and train after Hajj

Saudi Gazette Report MADINAH — Government authorities in Madinah have finalized their preparations to receive the influx of pilgrims visiting the Prophet's Mosque following the completion of their Hajj rituals. The coordinated efforts reflect Madinah's commitment to ensuring a seamless and spiritually enriching post-Hajj experience for the pilgrims. Under the direct supervision of Emir of Madinah Region and Chairman of the Hajj and Visitation Committee Prince Salman bin Sultan, relevant agencies are executing comprehensive operational plans tailored to the post-Hajj season. The first groups of returning pilgrims are set to arrive Sunday evening, Dhul Hijjah 12, via bus and the Haramain High-Speed Train. Authorities are actively monitoring field operations to ensure smooth traffic on key routes, including the Hijrah Expressway, and have implemented precautionary measures to maintain high levels of security and traffic fluidity along the Qassim and Tabuk roads leading into Madinah. The General Authority for the Affairs of the Prophet's Mosque has launched an integrated plan to prepare the mosque and its facilities to receive pilgrims in a clean, safe, and welcoming environment. A total of 141 mosque doors will be opened to accommodate male and female pilgrims, with 100 designated pathways staffed by spatial guidance teams to organize movement within the mosque complex. Special arrangements have been made to manage access to Al-Rawdah Al-Sharif, with entry regulated through pre-booked appointments on official applications, ensuring adherence to crowd capacity and providing a smooth experience. Informational digital screens guide visitors through designated entry points, and Zamzam water bottles are distributed to enhance their spiritual visit. These efforts aim to facilitate voluntary prayers in Al-Rawdah Al-Sharif and allow the largest possible number of pilgrims to offer greetings to Prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him) and to his two companions.

Thousands protest in Tel Aviv for release of Gaza hostages

TEL AVIV: Thousands of people demonstrated Saturday night in Tel Aviv to demand the release of hostages held in the Gaza Strip and a ceasefire after 20 months of war between Israel and the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas. The crowd gathered at the so-called Hostages Square chanting 'The people choose the hostages!' and demanding 'a comprehensive deal' for their return, according to a statement from the Hostages and Missing Families Forum. Earlier on Saturday, Hamas released a photograph of one of the remaining hostages, Matan Zangauker, appearing to be in poor health, with a warning that he would not survive. His mother, Einav Zangauker, speaking at the protest in Tel Aviv, said 'I can no longer bear this nightmare. The angel of death, Netanyahu, continues to sacrifice the hostages,' AFPTV footage showed, referring to the Israeli prime minister. Noam Katz, the daughter of hostage Lior Rudaeff, who has been declared dead but whose body is still in the Gaza Strip, called for an immediate halt to the fighting. 'Do not send more soldiers to risk their lives to bring back our fathers. Bring them back through an agreement. Stop the war!' she declared to the crowd at the square, the Families Forum said. On Friday, the Israeli army announced the death of four soldiers in the Gaza Strip and said it lacked 10,000 troops to meet its needs in the Palestinian territory. Negotiations aimed at ending the fighting, mediated by Egypt, Qatar and the United States have remained unsuccessful so far. Tal Kupershtein, father of Bar Kupershtein, who was abducted at the age of 21, demanded that his son 'come home now!' 'I call on the prime minister to accept an agreement for the return of all the hostages.' Of the 251 people abducted on October 7, 2023, 55 are still held in the Gaza Strip, at least 31 of whom are dead, according to Israeli authorities.
