Young Thug set for first live performance since prison release at Belgium's Les Ardentes festival

Express Tribune26-02-2025

Young Thug is officially set to make his live performance comeback after his release from prison last Halloween. However, U.S. fans may have to wait, as the rapper's first show will take place overseas.
Thugger has been announced as a headliner for Les Ardentes, a major Belgian music festival, where he will take the stage on July 5. The festival's organizers shared the news on Instagram, posting a flyer with the caption: 'History. Young Thug is back to headline Les Ardentes! 5th July at Les Ardentes. Tickets on sale this Wednesday!'
According to the festival's website, this will be Young Thug's first time performing at Les Ardentes since 2017. 'Eight years after his last visit to Les Ardentes, Young Thug is back,' the statement read. 'See you on Saturday, July 5th for an ME-MO-RABLE show!'
His YSL label's official Instagram account reacted to the news by commenting, 'Slatt,' followed by a snake and lime-green heart emoji.
Despite his return to the stage, Young Thug still faces legal challenges. He is currently dealing with a civil lawsuit from entertainment company AEG, which claims he violated a 2017 touring agreement. The company alleges that the rapper never repaid a $5.3 million advance and had put up copyrights to his music as collateral.
'Such copyrights constituted collateral that was subject to the security agreement,' AEG wrote in its lawsuit, adding, 'AEG has the right, pursuant to [agreement], to require that [Thug's publishing company] and Mr. Williams assemble such [copyrights] and turn them over to AEG.'
Ken Carson is currently the only other American rapper confirmed for the festival, scheduled to perform on July 4.

Brian Wilson, beach boys co-founder and frontman, passes away at 82

Brian Wilson, the legendary co-founder and frontman of the iconic American rock band The Beach Boys, has passed away at 82. His family confirmed the news on June 11 through an Instagram post, sharing their grief with the world. A photo of the smiling musician on a bench accompanied the statement: "We are heartbroken to announce that our beloved father Brian Wilson has passed away. We are at a loss for words right now. Please respect our privacy at this time as our family is grieving. Love & Mercy." Wilson, born on June 20, 1942, in Inglewood, California, was the eldest of three siblings, with brothers Dennis and Carl Wilson. He was known for his exceptional musical talent from a young age, which led to the formation of The Beach Boys in 1961. Initially named the Pendletones, Wilson and his brothers, along with cousin Mike Love and friend Al Jardine, began their musical journey with hits like "Surfin' U.S.A." and "Surfin' Safari." Wilson was the primary songwriter, co-lead vocalist, and bass guitarist for the band. He helped define the "California sound," with hits like 'Good Vibrations' and the 1966 album Pet Sounds. His visionary approach to music marked a departure from the band's surf-centric themes, establishing his influence on modern pop and rock. Despite his musical success, Wilson struggled with mental health issues, including depression and the pressures of fame. He faced personal challenges, including a difficult relationship with his father, which later led to hearing loss in his right ear. In the 1970s, he retreated from public life, battling drugs, alcohol, and emotional distress. Wilson's comeback began in the 1980s with therapy and a revitalization of his career. He released several solo albums, including Brian Wilson Presents Smile in 2004, a project he had initially abandoned with The Beach Boys in the 1960s. Throughout his career, he received numerous accolades, including Grammy nominations, two wins for his solo work, and induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1988. Wilson leaves behind a legacy that shaped the landscape of American music. He is survived by his children from two marriages and his extended family.

Sylvester Stallone is not dead: Online confusion follows passing of funk legend Sly Stone

Actor Sylvester Stallone is alive and well despite a wave of misleading tributes that surfaced online on Monday, June 9. The confusion arose after the confirmed death of funk music pioneer Sly Stone at age 82. The mistaken reports stemmed from the nickname 'Sly,' which both Stone and Stallone share. Stone, born Sylvester Stewart, was a pivotal figure in American music history, known for leading the revolutionary band Sly and the Family Stone. His hits like 'Everyday People' and 'Family Affair' helped redefine funk and soul music. Stone died peacefully after a prolonged battle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, according to a family statement. His legacy includes breaking racial and gender barriers in popular music and inspiring generations of artists. In contrast, Stallone—best known for his roles in 'Rocky' and 'Rambo'—continues to work in film and remains politically outspoken. The 78-year-old has not commented publicly on the mix-up, though social media was quick to clarify the error. Sly Stone leaves behind children including Novena Carmel and Phunne Stone, while Stallone's children include Sage, Seargeoh, Sophia, Sistine and Scarlet.
