Test-Driving The 2025 Genesis Electrified GV70

Forbesa day ago
Three years on from the model's reveal, Genesis has updated the Electrified GV70 for 2025. Its curb appeal remains strong accompanied by a refreshed interior featuring an impressively crisp 27-inch screen on the dashboard. In place of the separate infotainment screen, the instrument binnacle has been integrated into the display in a sleek statement piece.
Jonny Miller, brand director for Genesis Motor UK, said, 'The facelift version of the Electrified GV70 kicks off our move to refresh our entire electric vehicle line up for 2025. Expanding the Electrified GV70 line-up to three trims means we can now encompass a wider remit of customer convenience and boutique trim possibilities.'
What Is The 2025 Genesis Electrified GV70 Like To Drive?
Despite sharing the same DNA as its engine-powered GV70 turbocharged sibling, the Electrified GV70 has a completely different personality. Its electric powertrain generates barely any sound and delivers over 400 bhp in an instant. For its maximum 483 bhp, a boost button on the steering wheel unleashes everything it has for 10 seconds.
As part of the latest update, Genesis swapped out the 77kWh battery for an 84kWh unit which ups range in the entry-level version to 298 miles. Both Dynamic and Luxury trims which sit on larger 20-inch wheels have an official range of 287 miles. Although all models can comfortably achieve more than 250 miles, range seems low compared to the likes of the Porsche Macan Electric and the Audi Q6 e-tron.
Genesis remedies any range anxiety concerns with the capacity to accept charging at speeds up to 240kW. Using ultra fast charging, the Electrified GV70 can charge from 10 to 80% in just 19 minutes. The charging port is neatly disguised in the front grille, so much so, I paced around the car three times before resorting to looking for a video online to work out where it was.
Like the rest of the Genesis range, technology is a strong point with useful aids like a blind spot camera which pops up on the screen every time you use the indicator. A configurable button on the dash can be set up to easily turn off over enthusiastic assistance systems.
On the road, the extra weight of the battery is not as noticeable as it is in the Lotus Electre, for example. Instead, the Electrified GV70 feels confident in its movements offering a smooth ride at any speed. Its electric power means it's quick to pull away when you need it to but for the most part, gentle inputs create a relaxing experience.
What Is The 2025 Genesis Electrified GV70 Like Inside?
Most manufacturers targeting the luxury segment typically tie interior descriptions to wellness topics. On the surface, this wellness rhetoric doesn't always make much sense but sitting in the Electrified GV70, the concept is crystal clear. Through a mixture of materials, intuitive controls and a well insulated cabin, as soon as you shut the door, a relaxed hush falls over the interior.
In the top trim Luxury example I tried, it featured a backlit constellation pattern on the inner surface of the arm rests in the doors. The color syncs with the ambient lighting just below the beltline creating a cohesive interior theme. Atop the dash, a single sweeping unit houses the driver's display and infotainment system which can be used as a touchscreen or controllable with a rotary dial and shortcut buttons.
From a passenger perspective, there's ample leg room and a central armrest when just two passengers are travelling in the back. For long trips boot space can be a bit limited. Compared to other SUVs in this category, the Electrified GV70's boot feels quite shallow due to the high boot floor and low parcel shelf. It's easy to open up more luggage space with a quick pull of the rear seat release levers in the boot.
How Much Does the 2025 Genesis Electrified GV70 Cost?
In the UK, the latest version of the Electrified GV70 is available in three different trim options: Pure, Dynamic and Luxury. The US market has the choice of AWD, Advanced AWD and Prestige AWD. The entry-level trim starts from £66,000 or $64,000 depending on which side of the pond you reside. Expect to pay from £71,000 or $69,000 for the middle trim and 75,000 of your preferred currency for the top-spec version.
Like any accomplished luxury brand countless extras can be specified when you order a Genesis Electrified GV70. This can be as simple as body and brake caliper colors right the way through to comfort packages.

California voters support EV tax incentives, but are wary of sales mandates says poll

California drivers don't want to lose their electric vehicle tax incentives, but even voters in one of the bluest states are wary about reviving plans to phase out gas cars. Voters are split down the middle on whether California should stick to its guns on its Trump-blocked plans to phase out sales of gas cars by 2035, according to an exclusive POLITICO-Citrin Center-Possibility Lab poll. Only 46 percent of the more than 1,400 registered voters surveyed said they support the policy, while 47 percent said no. Yes, there was an obvious partisan split: 60 percent of Democrats said they backed the phase-out, compared with 40 percent of independents and 31 percent of Republicans. But the results offer a note of caution for Gov. Gavin Newsom, who directed the California Air Resources Board to start writing new vehicle emissions rules after Republicans revoked the state's sales mandates for cars and heavy-duty trucks in June. 'None of us really like the idea of government intervening to take something away from us,' said Dan Sperling, a former California Air Resources Board member and director of the University of California, Davis' Institute for Transportation Studies. 'That's even the most liberal of us.' Poll respondents are more bought into Newsom's plan to backfill the soon-to-be-defunct $7,500 federal EV tax credit. Nearly two-thirds — 64 percent — said they would support state-funded tax incentives once the federal subsidy ends Sept. 30, as part of the Trump administration's ongoing attacks on clean energy policy. That question again showed a partisan divide, with 80 percent of Democrats saying they back the approach, compared with 60 percent of independent voters and just 43 percent of Republicans. But the overall result bolsters Newsom's push to backfill incentives that the Biden administration used to coax drivers off fossil fuels, as he suggested using cap-and-trade revenues last year and directed state agencies to consider in a June executive order. But Jack Citrin, a veteran political science professor at UC Berkeley and partner on the poll, said a closer look at the poll results shows that Democrats need to keep affordability in mind. He pointed to the fact that 28 percent of respondents said they'd support new EV incentives only if gas prices aren't impacted and another 20 percent said they should be reserved for low-income buyers, reflecting the fact that cost of living was the top concern of voters polled. And 64 percent of respondents said gasoline prices are putting a significant, extreme or moderate burden on their household budgets. 'That reflects a concern with the cost of all of this,' Citrin said. 'Yes, we're for environmental protection. Yes, we're for all of this, just as long as it doesn't cost a lot.' The poll comes as state agencies released a joint report Tuesday with recommendations for countering Trump's assault, calling on lawmakers to bolster tax incentives, improve charging infrastructure and regulate facilities that attract polluting trucks, but offering few specific timelines or dollar figures. CARB Chair Liane Randolph framed the report — which Newsom asked for in his June order — as a first step in the state's defense against a hostile federal government. 'Clean air efforts are under siege, putting the health of every American at risk,' she said during a press briefing. 'California is continuing to fight back and will not give up on cleaner air and better public health.' Sperling called the report a surprisingly 'modest document,' and said it lacks the specificity he hoped to see. 'The word I would use is disconcerting,' Sperling said when asked about where California stands in its fight against Trump. The POLITICO-Citrin Center-Possibility Lab poll was fielded by TrueDot, the artificial intelligence-accelerated research platform, in collaboration with the Citrin Center and Possibility Lab at UC Berkeley and POLITICO. The public opinion study, made possible in part with support from the California Constitution Center, was conducted in the field between July 28 and Aug. 12. The sample of 1,445 registered voters was selected at random by Verasight, with interviews conducted in English and Spanish, and includes an oversample of Hispanic voters. The modeled error estimate for the full sample is plus or minus 2.6 percent. The policy influencer study was conducted from July 30 to Aug. 11, among 512 subscribers to POLITICO Pro, and the modeled error estimate is plus or minus 3.7 percent. Like this content? Santa Clara, Aug. 20, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- In a world where financial institutions grapple with increasingly complex compliance and risk detection requirements, generative AI is emerging as a game-changer. The launch of the UK Financial Conduct Authority's "supercharged sandbox" in partnership with Nvidia has opened the floodgates for banks to pilot advanced AI for fraud detection and market manipulation in a controlled environment. For more information, visit: Meanwhile, AI-powered tools from major banks and fintech firms are slashing manual review times from contract analysis to transaction monitoring by hundreds of thousands of hours annually. Generative AI models, backed by Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) frameworks and LangChain components, are enabling precise, context-aware responses while keeping data secure behind enterprise firewalls. Interview Kickstart, a leading upskilling platform trusted by thousands of tech professionals, offers an Applied Generative AI course designed to prepare engineers for high-impact roles at FAANG and top-tier companies. Tailored tracks for software engineers stand out, covering a structured Python crash course, deep dives into LLMs, neural networks, and applied modules on image and audio GenAI. The program spans 12 weeks of hands-on training and culminates in software-focused capstone projects. By the end, learners are able to build intelligent meeting summarizers, virtual coding assistants, and AI customer service agents—skills that mirror the real-world needs of financial institutions and tech giants alike. In financial services, AI-driven risk detection and compliance systems are rapidly becoming the backbone of operational efficiency. JPMorgan Chase's COiN platform leverages NLP to process thousands of contracts per second, saving over 360,000 manual review hours annually. Similarly, Mastercard's real-time fraud detection system evaluates 160 billion transactions each year, improving detection rates by up to 300% while minimizing false declines. These cutting-edge deployments rely heavily on RAG systems that couple textual embeddings with deep language models. To stay legally compliant, they embed secure pipelines that shield sensitive data, often combining vector embeddings, fine-grained permissions, and local indexing to ensure confidentiality. Interview Kickstart's Applied Generative AI course equips learners with exactly these in-demand skills. Modules centered on prompt engineering, model fine-tuning, and secure deployment directly map to real-world compliance workflows. LangChain integration is a core highlight: students learn to build secure RAG agents over private databases, employ document loaders, manage vector stores, and create RAG chains with retrieval and generation linked by authorization checks—a training path that mirrors enterprise-grade architectures. Speakers from the financial industry are often hired by FAANG companies, meaning the expertise students gain matches the expectations in top-tier interviews. Crucially, interview readiness is baked into the program. Mock technical interviews with FAANG engineers in both domain-specific and system design contexts ensure candidates are not just technically competent, but also interview-savvy. Personalized coaching helps refine your resume, optimize your LinkedIn presence, and practice behavioral competencies. This means that by the time learners head into interviews, they can confidently discuss how to architect a RAG-based compliance tool that enforces access control, mitigates bias, and passes audit scrutiny, exactly the kinds of systems being piloted by regulators and banks today. Ethical and legal considerations are also woven into the curriculum. With regulators like the UK FCA and Germany's BaFin demanding transparency in AI usage, understanding biases, audit logging, and federated or on-premise deployment is essential. The program includes modules on ethical guardrails, evaluation metrics, and bias mitigation, ensuring learners can articulate how to deploy AI responsibly in sensitive environments. Beyond technical depth, Interview Kickstart's Applied Generative AI course offers tailored tracks for different roles, including software engineers, product managers, engineering managers, and technical program managers. While engineers learn to code and construct models, product roles explore prompt design and value communication; managers focus on technical feasibility, ROI assessments, and integration planning. This multi-role alignment reflects real-world teams deploying GenAI responsibly, making every graduate well-prepared for interdisciplinary collaboration in enterprise settings. The capstone projects reflect this alignment with industry trends. For software engineers, a project like an intelligent meeting summarizer or virtual assistant parallels what financial firms build to comply with audit logging and real-time compliance monitoring. Deploying these applications through AWS, integrating with finance databases, or applying LangChain permissions replicates those mega-scale systems. In a AI-driven compliance wave, Interview Kickstart's Applied Generative AI course doesn't just teach generative models, it trains you to build enterprise-ready, safe, and compliant AI systems. Combining the best of RAG, secure agentic pipelines, prompt-driven LLMs, and real-world deployment, this course lays the foundation for tech professionals to confidently interview and land roles at FAANG and beyond. With generative AI transforming risk and compliance across global financial markets, professionals skilled in LangChain, RAG, secure model deployment, and AI ethics are in high demand. Sony is increasing the price of the PlayStation 5 as new tariffs take hold

Sony will raise the price of PlayStation 5 consoles, the company announced on Wednesday. These changes will be effective as of Thursday, August 21. Citing 'a challenging economic environment' — which appears to reference President Trump's tariffs on imported products — Sony is increasing console prices by about $50. In the U.S., the prices will increase to $549.99 for the PlayStation 5, $499.99 for the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition, and $749.99 for the PlayStation 5 Pro. On July 31, the White House announced a 15% tariff on Japan. The company said that it does not have plans to change prices in other countries, nor does it intend to hike the cost of accessories. However, Sony already raised prices for PlayStation consoles sold in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand in April, citing the same challenging environment. In some regions, Sony previously increased console prices in 2022 due to inflation, but U.S. markets were not impacted at the time. Some of Sony's peers have also announced pricing changes to gaming products amid the news of Trump's tariffs. Microsoft indicated in May that it would increase console prices by $80 to $100, while also increasing the prices of some games, controllers, and accessories. Nintendo chose to raise the prices of some accessories for the new Nintendo Switch 2 console, but not the console itself.
