Asia Cup in limbo after India-Pakistan clashes
NEW DELHI, June 3 (Reuters) - This year's Asia Cup hangs in the balance following the recent clashes between tournament hosts India and arch-rivals Pakistan. Already-soured relations between the nuclear-armed neighbours further worsened after four days of intense fighting before a ceasefire was announced last month. India are scheduled to host the Asia Cup, a flagship event of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), in September but uncertainty lingers over the T20 tournament. "To be honest, we have had no discussions within the board about the Asia Cup," a top official of the Indian cricket board (BCCI) told Reuters on Tuesday, refusing to confirm whether the tournament will go ahead as scheduled. "We have been busy with the Indian Premier League and then we have India's tour of England. These are our immediate concerns," he added. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was not forthcoming about its team's participation in the tournament in India either. "We will cross that bridge when we come to it," the PCB told Reuters in a statement. ACC president Mohsin Naqvi, who also heads the PCB, was not available to comment. The ACC on Monday announced the postponement of the women's Emerging Asia Cup, which was due to begin on Friday, citing weather conditions and the spread of the viral disease chikungunya in host nation Sri Lanka. India will host the women's 50-overs World this year but Pakistan will play all their matches in Sri Lanka under an arrangement made by the International Cricket Council. India refused to travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy this year and played all their matches, including the March 9 final, in Dubai. Bilateral cricket has been suspended since 2013 between the Asian neighbours, who play each other only in multi-team events. India head coach Gautam Gambhir is against playing Pakistan even in neutral venues but will follow whatever the BCCI decided, he said last month.

Pakistan to play in Colombo when India hosts women's World Cup
June 2 (Reuters) - Pakistan will play all their women's 50-over World Cup matches in Sri Lanka's capital Colombo when India hosts this year's tournament, the International Cricket Council (ICC) said on Monday. Politically-estranged India and Pakistan, who have not played a bilateral series since 2013, will play their matches in neutral venues when either country hosts an ICC event, the sport's global governing body announced in December. "The venues for the knockouts are dependent on Pakistan qualifying as two alternative venues have been identified for one semi-final and the final," the ICC said. "Colombo will be the venue for the first semi-final and the final only if Pakistan qualify for those stages." Bengaluru, where the tournament will start with India playing in the opening match, will host the final on November 2 if Pakistan are knocked out earlier in the tournament, the ICC added. Bengaluru will also stage the second semi-final on October 30, a day after the first semi-final in Colombo or Guwahati. Visakhapatnam and Indore are the two other host cities for the eight-team tournament. India played all their matches in Dubai when Pakistan hosted the men's Champions Trophy this year, including the final which they won. Both the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the Pakistan Super League were suspended last month amid clashes between the two countries following an attack targeting tourists that killed 26 people in Kashmir in April. Matches resumed after a ceasefire was announced. The neutral venue arrangement between the countries will also be in place for the men's T20 World Cup in 2026, which India will co-host with Sri Lanka, and the women's T20 World Cup in 2028 in Pakistan.

Deja vu Root's long pursuit of Sir Alastair Cook's record 12,472 Test runs for England reached its climax in October's first Test against Pakistan in Multan when he moved his innings on to 70. He continued the following day to reach 262, passing his previous Test best of 254 to claim the record in memorable style – and remarkably repeated the feat in ODIs with Sunday's match-winning innings. Going into the game needing 42 to pass Eoin Morgan's record 6,957 ODI runs for England, he ticked off that mark before his 11th boundary of the innings took him past 7,000 for his career. He passed his previous best ODI score of 133 with a six off Justin Greaves in the 41st over and finished on 166 not out, moving to 7,082 career ODI runs, as England chased down 309 to win by three wickets with seven balls to spare. Root's record Root has over 20,000 runs for England across all formats, having been a key man for his country since his Test debut in December 2012.
