Auburn nail salon operator among 11 arrested in Opelika child sex sting

OPELIKA, Ala. (WRBL) — A multi-agency child exploitation sting led by the Opelika Police Department has resulted in the arrest of 11 men accused of attempting to meet minors for sex. Among those charged is 29-year-old Quyen Huu Nguyen, an Auburn resident who operates Queen Nails and Spa on South Gay Street in downtown Auburn.
Nguyen faces two counts of Prostitution with a Minor, two counts of Child Solicitation by Computer, and two counts of Traveling to Meet a Child for an Unlawful Sex Act.
According to court records, Nguyen is out on a $260,000 bond and is barred from contact with individuals under 16 years old, except for immediate family members like a child or sibling. A hearing to appoint legal counsel is scheduled for April 2025. WRBL spoke with a representative from Queen Nails, who stated Nguyen is no longer working inside the salon.
The arrests stem from an undercover operation conducted by the Opelika Police Department in partnership with the Lee County District Attorney's Office, Homeland Security, and Covenant Rescue Group, a nonprofit dedicated to combating human trafficking.
Investigators posed as minors in online chat rooms and social media before arranging meetings with suspects, who allegedly believed they were meeting teenage girls for sexual encounters. Instead, they were met by law enforcement officers and arrested.
Those arrested on February 20 and 21 include:
Courtney Avery, 40, Opelika, AL
Grant Lee, 43, Johns Creek, GA
Ismel Cano Montealegre, 21, Montgomery, AL
Victor Dowdell II, 27, Auburn, AL
Javier Perez, 25, Auburn, AL
Jacob Fahringer, 23, Auburn, AL
Arnulfo Diaz-Alvarado, 27, Dothan, AL
Efraim Perez Vaquero, 22, Union Springs, AL
Seungyun Lee, 28, Auburn, AL
Quyen Nguyen, 29, Auburn, AL
Marcus Wilson, 44, Auburn, AL
Most face allegations of Prostitution with a Minor, Child Solicitation by Computer, and Traveling to Meet a Child for an Unlawful Sex Act.
Authorities say the operation is part of a broader effort to identify and apprehend online predators targeting minors.
The Opelika Police Department urges anyone with information related to this case to contact the Detective Division at (334) 705-5220 or the Secret Witness Hotline at (334) 745-8665.

Largest fentanyl bust in Georgia history could impact Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ga. () — A multi-agency drug bust in Metro Atlanta took thousands of fentanyl-laced pills and drug distribution equipment off the street, in the largest fentanyl seizure in the state of Georgia to-date. WRBL spoke to local law enforcement about how this could impact the Columbus community. 'I think that a lot of people are tired from seeing the bad things that drugs can do, not only to the community but to even family members,' said Muscogee County Sheriff Greg Countryman, adding that fentanyl is one of the leading cause of suicide deaths in Columbus and the state. He continued, 'That drug bust, it saved a bunch of lives.' Convicted felon and Atlanta resident 47-year-old Bartholomew Keeton Harralson was arrested. He faces multiple firearm and drug charges, including intent to distribute fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine and more. 'I would like to highlight the total amount of fentanyl seized,' said Jae Chung, acting special agent in charge at the Atlanta division of the D.E.A. 'Approximately 97 kilograms in powder- and pill form, which have the potential lethal dose to kill approximately 48 million Americans.' During the Atlanta bust, 28 firearms were also seized. 'Anything dealing with dealing with drugs, you're going to normally find guns. And so where you find guns, that there is a possibility of violence,' Countryman said. He anticipates the Atlanta bust will impact the cost and availability of fentanyl locally. In general, the sheriff hopes targeting illicit drug availability in Columbus could also lead to violence reduction. Countryman said MSCO will continue working with other local law enforcement agencies to tackle drug-related crime in Columbus. 'We're not going to stop until the criminal behavior stops. … But as long as they are going, we're going to bring the fight to them,' Countryman said. 'We're going to turn up the heat and we're not going to run from it. We have the resources, we have the collaboration, and we have fresh legs on the ground.' According to Countryman, local law enforcement has seized more than $311 million dollars of illicit drugs in the past four years. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. LaGrange honors two heroes who stopped runaway car as driver suffered seizure

LaGRANGE, Ga. (WRBL) – On Friday morning, the Troup County Sheriff's Office and the City of LaGrange will present the Citizen Bravery Award to two men who took bold action to stop a medical emergency from turning into a tragedy. Honorees Zion Reed, 22, and Drew Garner are being recognized for rescuing a woman suffering a seizure while driving on Hamilton Road on May 2. Reed, a mobile propane technician, leapt into action when he saw the driver veer into oncoming traffic near the Bryant Lake subdivision. Witness Drew Garner, who captured the event in photos and helped call 911, described Reed as sprinting toward the car, diving in headfirst, and slamming the brake — stopping the vehicle just feet away from a dump truck. The driver was convulsing and vomiting, but thanks to Reedbravery, she survived. 'This lady was having a seizure while driving, and the Lord gave me the strength to stop her vehicle before an accident occurred,' Reed later shared. 'Lord, I thank you for putting me in this position this morning.' Reed's mother added a touching detail — Zion was born weighing just 1 lb. 14 oz. 'We knew he was going to be special,' she said. In an emotional message sent to WRBL, the woman whose life was saved personally thanked both men. She said she is grateful beyond words and overwhelmed by their courage, saying she may not be alive today if not for their actions. The Troup County Sheriff's Office and City of LaGrange say both men embody the very best of their community. The award ceremony will be held at 9:00 AM during the City Council Meeting at 208 Ridley Avenue. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
