Minnesota Aurora FC tackling mental health this season
Aurora Football Club is gearing up and expecting another undefeated season with a deep playoff run.
While winning is always top of mind for this team, so is something even bigger than them.
"A lot times, especially as women, you're told just to come and get the job done, don't be emotional and just do the work," said Aurora rookie defender Elizabeth Overberg.
Overber is used to playing under pressure with the Gophers. But she's grateful now to be continuing her soccer career at a higher level with a team focused on destigmatizing mental health.
"The whole reason we're out here playing soccer is because we love it and it's something that's supposed to add to our lives, and a lot of times sports can become negative and take from our lives," Overberg said.
New this season, Aurora FC is partnering with NAMI Minnesota and a group called "We Are 8" that focuses on building a healthy digital space.
Dani Young, a former professional soccer player herself, is leading this partnership.
They're not only providing the players with mental health resources, but fans too.
Before every game, players will warm up in jerseys sharing the 988 suicide crisis hotline to remind people watching that free help is available.

"Then at the end of the year we're going to sign those and auction them off and the proceeds are going to go to NAMI," explained Young.
There will also be a "mindful moment" before every home game where fans are encouraged to put down their devices and connect with other fans through high fives, hugs, or words of kindness.
New Aurora FC head coach Jen Larrick is a big supporter of this new initiative.
"Sports is a stressful, crazy thing to go into and if we're going to ask them to do that and play in front of thousands of people, we have to have the support so they can take care of themselves," said Larrick.
It's a consistent reminder that as we watch a sport we love together, we are not alone.

Don't overlook your eyes when protecting yourself from the sun
We all know to apply sunscreen when spending time outdoors on a sunny day to prevent uncomfortable sunburns. But did you know that it's not just your skin that can get burned? Your eyes are also vulnerable to sun damage! Photophthalmia—eye inflammation from exposure to ultraviolet rays, which are emitted by the sun—can occur from prolonged sun exposure. A brief glance at the sun may just leave you with temporary spots in your vision, but any more than that could leave you with damage to the soft tissue that makes up your cornea—the structure in your eye that protects the iris and pupil—which, in some cases, can be permanent and increase your chance of developing cataracts. DON'T MISS: A burn at the corneal level is called photokeratitis, and you don't need to stare directly at the Sun to get it. Bright reflections, such as off snow or water, can also cause your cornea to burn. In extreme cases, you could even burn and scar your retina (the soft tissue at the back of the eye)—this is called solar retinopathy. This, however, is most common when staring directly at a solar eclipse without proper eye protection. The prolonged symptoms to look out for that could indicate sun damage to your eyes are Red eyes Severe, painful burning sensation in the eyes Watery eyes Twitchy eyelid Aversion to lights Persistent headache Blurred vision In minor cases, these symptoms should go away on their own with some rest and lubricating eye drops. It's when the symptoms don't go away after 24-72 hours that you may want to book a visit with your optometrist. SEE ALSO: While you can't apply sunscreen to your eyes, there are numerous ways to reduce the amount of sun exposure and strain on your eyes in bright sunlight. The best way to protect your eyes from the sun is to invest in a good pair of sunglasses that are UVA and UVB resistant. These will stop the harmful ultraviolet rays from reaching your eyes. Polarized sunglasses are also a great option, as they reduce glare from sunlight reflecting off of surfaces. In addition to sunglasses, always wear a brimmed hat when outdoors, as it will cast shade over the top of your face. Buccaneers have unique placement in Madden 26 beta team ratings
Every year, gamers and actual football players alike get excited about the release of the annual Madden football game. Like every video game, a beta version is always released to work out the bugs within it, as well as to see what works and what doesn't in terms of ideas. Within that, it also allows for previews of the game itself to happen, and one of those things includes the overall ratings of the teams within the game. Advertisement While we do not yet see the ratings of players, we do see the team overalls, and they are something to behold. The Bucs' overall rating is 84, which ranks them 13th, tied with their division rival, the Atlanta Falcons. Other NFC South team ratings include the Panthers' 79, which ranks them 29th, and the Saints' 83, which is good enough for 17th. There are some questionable teams ranked ahead of the Bucs, such as the Browns, Jets, Steelers, and Dolphins. Bucs fans will have to wait for revenge for when the full game releases later this year.
