Maldives FM Abdulla Khaleel arriving on India visit, to participate in High Level Core Group Meeting

New Delhi, May 25 (UNI) Maldives Foreign Minister Abdulla Khaleel will be on a three-day visit to India from today, during which he will participate in the 2nd India-Maldives High Level Core Group (HLCG) meeting.
This is Foreign Minister Khaleel's third visit to India in 2025, following his visits earlier in January and March 2025, and is in continuation of intensified high level political exchanges between India and Maldives, a statement said.
On May 26, Foreign Minister Khaleel will lead Maldives at the 2nd India-Maldives High Level Core Group (HLCG) meeting to oversee progress in the implementation of the India-Maldives Vision Document on Comprehensive Economic and Maritime Security Partnership, adopted by the leadership of the two countries during the State Visit of President Mohamed Muizzu to India in October 2024.
During the visit, Foreign Minister Khaleel will also hold bilateral discussions with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.
Maldives is India's key maritime neighbour and an important partner in India's 'Neighbourhood First' policy and Vision MAHASAGAR, i.e., Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions. The visit is aimed at strengthening the Comprehensive Economic and Maritime Security Partnership between the two countries, it said.
The visit comes days after India and the Maldives signed 13 memorandums of understanding (MoUs) to enhance ferry services across the island nation, backed by a grant of MVR 100 million (approximately USD 6.6 million) under India's High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP) Phase III.
The MoUs were signed on May 18 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Malé. Maldivian Foreign Minister Abdulla Khaleel and Indian High Commissioner G Balasubramanian signed the agreements. Mohamed Ameen, the Maldivian Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, signed as the representative of the implementing agency.
According to the Maldivian Foreign Ministry, the ferry enhancement projects under HICDP Phase III represent a significant investment in the country's maritime infrastructure, which is vital for inter-island transport and access to essential services.

Shift in tone? Bilawal seeks intel cooperation with India; underlines threat of terrorism

NEW DELHI: Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on Wednesday said that Pakistan was ready to "cooperate" with India to combat further seeking a "dispute resolution mechanism" between the two nations. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Asking for a combined effort between the intelligence agencies of the two nations- RAW and ISI- Bhutto warned that continued conflict only empowered non-state actors. "Pakistan would still like to cooperate with India to combat terrorism. We can't leave the fate of 1.5 billion, 1.7 billion people in the hands of non-state actors and terrorists. For them to decide, at a whim, that (when these) two nuclear-armed powers will go to war," Bhutto said speaking at a UN briefing in New York "You can't have no dispute resolution mechanisms between two nuclear-armed countries. I am completely confident that if ISI and RAW were ready to sit down and work together to fight these forces, we would see a significant decrease in terrorism in both India and Pakistan," he added. Pakistan's delegation led by Bhutto is in the US at the same day as Shashi Tharoor-led delegation. Commenting on this, Tharoor remarked that the presence of both delegations would heighten "interest", as the United States—whose president has often taken credit for the India-Pakistan ceasefire—would hear two starkly contrasting perspectives on the same day. "In Washington, we'll have the interesting phenomenon of the Pakistani delegation in America, and almost exactly the same days... Tomorrow almost they will be in Washington, while we are in Washington on the same date. So there's going to be perhaps an increase in interest because there are two duelling delegations in the same city," Tharoor told ANI on Tuesday. The delegation has arrived in the States. "An all-party delegation led by Shashi Tharoor arrives in Washington DC Over the next two days the delegation will be meeting members of the US Congress and administration, think tanks, media and policymakers to brief them on Operation Sindoor and India's strong stand against terrorism," Indian Embassy in US said. Preliminary assessments indicate that the Indian Air Force inflicted heavy damage, destroying six Pakistan Air Force fighter jets, two high-value aircraft, over 10 unmanned combat aerial vehicles (UCAVs), a C-130 transport aircraft, and multiple cruise missiles using a combination of air-launched and surface-to-air missile systems.
