BET Awards ceremony to go on as planned despite LA unrest
June 9 (UPI) -- The BET Awards ceremony is expected to go on as planned Monday evening at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, despite ongoing clashes between protesters and authorities in the city.
"BET remains committed to the safety of our guests and staff," a network representative told The Hollywood Reporter on Sunday night.
"We are working closely with the LAPD and monitoring the situation. The 2025 BET Awards will take place Monday, June 9th, 2025, at 8 p.m. ET/PT as scheduled."
President Donald Trump deployed National Guard troops to Los Angeles on Sunday amid ongoing protests against recent raids carried out by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
BET shared a clip from Master P's 2023 BET Awards performance Monday morning, asking followers to "Make sure you're tapped in today for the 2025 #BETAwards 8/7c."
Comedian Kevin Hart is to host the gala where Mariah Carey, Jamie Foxx, Snoop Dogg and Kirk Franklin will be presented with Ultimate Icon Awards.
Slated to perform are Lil Wayne, Teyana Taylor, GloRilla, Playboi Carter and Leon Thomas.

President Trump eventually waded into the discourse in defense of Sweeney. 'Sydney Sweeney, a registered Republican, has the 'HOTTEST' ad out there. It's for American Eagle, and the jeans are 'flying off the shelves.' Go get 'em Sydney!' Trump said in a Truth Social post. Did Sweeney's controversial ads play a role in the film's less-than-stellar opening? Deadline notes that while it may have had an impact, the film was never projected to be a major blockbuster hit and is still expected to be profitable for Lionsgate.

Coming in at No. 2 is Freakier Friday with $14.5 million, followed by Nobody 2 at No. 3 with $9.3 million, The Fantastic Four: First Steps at No. 4 with $8.8 million and The Bad Guys 2 at No. 5 with $7.5 million. Rounding out the top tier are Superman at No. 6 with $5.3 million, The Naked Gun at No. 7 with $4.8 million, Jurassic World: Rebirth at No. 8 with $2.9 million, F1 at No. 9 with $2.7 million and Coolio at No. 10 with $2.5 million.

'Superman,' 'Limey' star Terence Stamp dead at 87

The Golden Globe winner's family confirmed the sad news to The New York Times and The Independent. "He leaves behind an extraordinary body of work, both as an actor and as a writer that will continue to touch and inspire people for years to come," his loved ones said in a statement. "We ask for privacy at this sad time." The cause and location of his death were not immediately disclosed. Stamp's other credits include Billy Budd, Far From the Madding Crowd, The Collector, Young Guns, Smallville, Get Smart, The Adjustment Bureau, Big Eyes and Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace. His final screen performance was in 2021's Last Night in Soho. Notable deaths of 2025 Astronaut Jim Lovell, commander of the ill-fated Apollo 13 mission to the moon, died August 8, 2025, in Illinois, his family announced. He was 97.
