The award category, which covers both scripted and documentary films, honours the best work produced by international students enrolled in Toronto Film School.
In a statement, Ascendance, an international youth organisation, said that 'Late Night Mini-Mart' stood out not only for its technical merit but for its heartfelt message about pushing beyond limitations and the film explores how individuals are often defined by what holds them back, whether internal fears or external pressures and invites viewers to question those boundaries.
"The Best International Short is presented for both scripted and documentary films by international students, based on the overall merit of the production - from writing and directing to editing and execution,' said the TFS FEST representative, quoted in the statement.
Meanwhile, Sanadtkumar dedicated the award to his family, team and mentors at Toronto Film School.
"This film came from the idea that we are so much more than the things that stop us - our limiting beliefs, our comfort zones. I wanted this film to remind people: you are so much more than what you think you are.
"Thank you to all the instructors who were part of my journey, Steven Hoffner, Amy Wong, Blain Watters and to my parents back home in Malaysia. Let's continue to live and breathe movies,' he said.
TFS FEST is regarded as one of Canada's most respected platforms for emerging filmmakers. The Pinnacle Awards, judged by a panel of industry professionals, represent the festival's highest honour and celebrate bold, original voices in cinema.

Beloved Chinese climber killed by falling rocks on K2

A CHINESE climber renowned among her peers for her warmth and friendliness, as well as her handstand antics on a recent expedition, has died, Kwong Wah Yit Poh reported. Guan Jing, 38, from Hunan province was struck by falling rocks while descending K2, the second highest mountain in the world, in the Pakistan-China region on Tuesday. The report stated that Pakistani authorities were searching for the remains of the victim despite facing bad weather. It also said her mountain climbing peers had confirmed the tragedy. Guan, who was a yoga practitioner, had reached the K2 summit along with a group of climbers and sherpas from China, United States, Romania, Nepal and Pakistan the day before her death. In May last year, Guan stunned the world when she made a handstand for 20 seconds at the summit of the world's highest mountain – Mount Everest – after completing her ascent. Reports said historical records since 1953 showed that no one had succeeded doing such antics at the summit. > Sin Chew Daily reported that Malaysian singer Firdhaus Farmizi has been nominated for three songs in the Best Local Chinese Song category of the Anugerah Industri Muzik (AIM) 2024 awards. This means that the 26-year-old Johor-born singer has a two-third probability of winning the award. There are only five songs nominated for the category, namely Eternal Friendship, Imperfection and Divorce In Ghana by Firdhaus as well as Beyond The Stars by Uriah See and The Ideal Adult In Our Heart by Brian Chew and Tan Yin Ern. (Video) Local VFX Artist Sofian Collabs With SEVENTEEN's Jun For 'The Shadow's Edge' Promo

Earlier this month, local visual effects artist Sofian, better known online as Sofyank96, teased his collaboration with K-pop idol Jun (文俊輝/준), a member of SEVENTEEN (세븐틴). In partnership with Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC), the video project forms part of the promotional campaign for the actor's upcoming action–thriller film 'The Shadow's Edge', starring Jackie Chan. Malaysian fans were thrilled by the announcement and have been eagerly awaiting the content creator's latest work. The wait is finally over as the video is now out for the world to see. Watch: Earlier today (Friday, 15th August), Sofian and GSC released the collaboration between the Malaysian influencer and Jun, who plays Hu Feng in 'The Shadow's Edge'. The video opens with the pair seated in a lounge area, where the K-pop idol, in full costume, pulls out a lollipop before Sofian offers to show him a magic trick. The influencer tosses the sweet into the air, where it transforms into a Rubik's Cube, much to the singer's amusement. The singer then takes the 3D combination puzzle from Sofian, insisting he can solve it. However, just as he completes the task, the cube begins to beep and flash with lights like a ticking time bomb. The cube is dropped to the floor before it 'explodes', multiplying into hundreds of identical Rubik's Cubes. The words 'The Shadow's Edge' then appears on the puzzle, inviting fans to watch the film. 'It was such a fun experience shooting a VFX video with Jun, he's full of energy! If you want to see more magic tricks and action, see it in 'The Shadow's Edge'!' Sofian wrote in his captions. SEVENTEEN fans were delighted to finally see the promotional video, with many thanking Sofian for collaborating with Jun. Others remarked on how adorable the singer was when he said 'Jom!' at the end of the clip. Influencer Ceddy Ang even suggested that Sofian should make cameo appearances in future films. We have to agree with Ceddy on this one. As a rising star in VFX, it's only fitting for Sofian not only to work on high-budget films in the future, but also to make at least one on-screen appearance in those projects. What do you think?
