A SPANISH female bodybuilder has died aged just 37 after suffering a suspected heart attack.
Lorena Blanco, who was preparing to take part in Ms Olympia in Las Vegas in October, was taken to hospital after collapsing at her home in Lugo in Spain's north-west Galicia region on Saturday morning.

She was rushed to a nearby hospital but pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Lorena, who worked out at a sports club in her native city called the Club Fluvial de Lugo, was trained by her husband Isi Bolanos who is also well-known in the bodybuilding world.
She completed in a total of seven shows during the 2024 bodybuilding season after turning pro a year earlier, competing around the world with a best finish last year at the Tahoe Pro where she came fourth.
That placing earned Lorena, a Spanish champion in several fitness categories, her qualification to the Ms. Olympia which is regarded the pinnace of female bodybuilding like the Mr Olympia competition for men.
She had competed a little over a week ago at the Gomeisa Ultimate Battle Pro in Medellin in Colombia, another event run by the IFBB Professional League which is the governing body for professional bikini and other bodybuilding competitions, where she ranked 12th overall.
Her funeral was held yesterday in private with only close friends and family believed to have been in attendance.
Canary Islands bodybuilding group Pioneers del Culturismo Canario Español said in a social media tribute: 'We send our most sincere condolences to the friends and family of Lorena Blanco. Rest in peace.'
Another strength training organisation wrote online: 'The fitness world mourns a legend. RIP IFBB Pro Lorena Blanco, 1988-2025.'
Her death at just 37 also led to comments about the type of training methods she was subjecting herself to.
Ail Andy wrote on Facebook: 'These sudden heart attacks happen to a lot of high-performance athletes and almost none of them survive them.
'I think it has to do with the size of their hearts given the amount of exercise and their age.'
In June a professional female bodybuilder was beaten to death with a hammer at her rented Costa del Sol home before her muscleman husband killed himself using a knife.
Colombian bodybuilding champion Zunilda Hoyos Mendez, also described locally as an Onlyfans model, was found dead on June 19 after detectives went to the property on an upmarket residential estate in the popular resort of Fuengirola.
The body of her partner, 46-year-old Jarrod Gelling, was found in a bathroom with what police described in an initial statement as 'apparent self-inflicted stab wounds.'
Zunilda, who called herself Amy although she also known online as Colombian She-Hulk, had been missing for several days after flying to the Costa del Sol from Dubai where the couple spent much of their time following a competition.
The dead woman's relatives described Jarrod after news emerged of her death as 'aggressive' and said they believe he could have lashed out after she told him she wanted a divorce.
Spanish news website El Espanol reported at the time that as well as being a big name in the professional bodybuilding world, Zunilda also had more than 100,000 followers on Onlyfans and Fansly where it said she sold steamy videos as 'the naughtiest fitness girl.'
She finished second in the NPC Worldwide Latin American Championships in 2021.
'Rest in paradise'
Her coach Branden Rey said in an emotional Instagram post beside a photo of her flexing her muscles in a black bikini: 'We had 17 days until we were going to hit the stage and shock the world my friend.
'I told you that you could possibly be top 10 in the world by the end of this year and I meant it. Rest in paradise Amy.'
In a second post he added: 'We were so close to the end but the closest person to you ended it too soon.
'Domestic violence should never be taken lightly, because it can leave many with a heavy heart.'
In November last year a male bodybuilder died aged just 28 after suffering a heart attack during a punishing training session.
Jose Mateus Correia Silva was working out with friends at a gym in Aguas Claras near the Brazilian capital Brasilia when he fell ill.
He was rushed to a nearby fire station by a firefighter pal he was with but efforts to revive him lasting more than an hour proved unsuccessful.
Jose's heartbroken brother Tiago paid tribute to him in an emotional social media post, writing alongside a photo of the tragic athlete: 'You were incredible. Thank you for so much. I love you.'
The fitness world mourns a legend. RIP IFBB Pro Lorena Blanco, 1988-2025.'
Insisting his sibling was 'in good shape' and didn't have any health problems he was aware of in an interview with local media, he added: 'Heaven has gained an angel. Jose was a much-loved man.'
The dead man had competed, finishing ninth in the Men's Physique Class up to 179cm in the 2018 South American Championships after an eleventh placing a year earlier in the Men's Bodybuilding Class up to 100kg in the Arnold Classic South America.
Although he wasn't competing when he died, Jose kept himself busy between training sessions preparing other bodybuilders for competitions and was the owner of an online supplements store.
He had also qualified as a lawyer and completed a nutrition course.
In September last year a teenage bodybuilder with a 'brilliant future' ahead of him was found dead at his home in Brazil.
Matheus Pavlak, 19, had transformed his body in just five years after taking up the gruelling sport to overcome his obesity.
The police officer's son was a regular competitor in the southern Brazilian state of Santa Catarina where he lived and last year won an U23 contest to become Mr Blumenau in his home city of the same name.
In May last year he finished fourth and sixth in other regional competitions.
He was found dead on September 1 at his home after suffering a reported heart attack.
In May last year a Majorcan bodybuilder who survived cancer and life-threatening peritonitis died aged 50.
Xisco Serra's premature death was attributed locally at the time to natural causes after he suffered stomach problems.
The sports science graduate, who started lifting weights as a 16-year-old, began competing three decades ago and went on take part in around 90 contests.
His most notable wins on the international stage included Mr World IBFA in Rome in 2011 and Mr Universe IBFA in the 40-plus category in 2014, the same year he was voted overall Musclebeach Champion after competing in Venice, California.

Man United are 'prepared to meet £61m valuation' of Barcelona star in sensational swoop - as Red Devils wait for Benjamin Sesko's decision on potential move

Manchester United are reportedly ready to fork out £61million to bring in Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez. The Catalan giants are open to offers for a number of their players this summer as they try to generate funds in order to register new signings Marcus Rashford and goalkeeper Joan Garcia in their squad. It's thought that Fermin is one of the players at risk of being sold, with manager Hansi Flick no longer reliant on the 22-year-old in midfield. The Spaniard, who made 28 appearances in LaLiga last season, is indeed likely to see his game-time slashed this term as Raphinha moves inside to accommodate Rashford on the left-wing. But it's thought that Man United are interested in offering Fermin an exit route, with Ruben Amorim and club officials ready to pay Barca's £61m asking price, according to Catalan newspaper Sport. The Red Devils will however likely face stiff competition for his signature, after Chelsea, Arsenal and a number of clubs in the Saudi Pro League also expressed an interest. Any deal for Fermin is expected to take place in 'the coming weeks' with the new seasons of both LaLiga and the Premier League now just around a corner. United's priority ahead of their first league game against Arsenal on August 16 is thought to be the acquisition of a striker. After missing out on prime targets Liam Delap and later Viktor Gyokeres, the Red Devils turned their attention to Ollie Watkins and Benjamin Sesko. They this week however focused their efforts on RB Leipzig's Sesko, after reportedly being priced out of a move for their other option, the Aston Villa forward. United however are embroiled in a two-horse race for the Slovenian's signature with Newcastle, who are believed to have submitted their first bid for the striker on Friday. Sesko is currently weighing up his options, according to reports, and is yet to decide whether he favours a move to Old Trafford or further north to St James' Park. Ruben Amorim's maiden summer at the helm has so far seen United acquire Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbuemo in two deals totalling almost £140million. It's hoped the Premier League-proven wingers can strengthen a United frontline which has been devoid of goals, and confidence, in recent seasons. Rasmus Hojlund, who has actually somewhat impressed this pre-season, could leave the club this summer if Sesko comes through the door. It's thought RB Leipzig are showing a strong interest in securing his services, with the idea of Hojlund being used in a swap deal a genuine possibility. Elsewhere, Amorim is said to be keen to improve his squad in both midfield and in-goal. While no targets have been identified in the centre of the park, club officials reportedly enquired about the possibility of bringing Emi Martinez to Old Trafford earlier in the window. Aston Villa however turned down the proposal.

Watch: Marlie Packer set for Rugby World Cup opener ban after dangerous clear-out

Marlie Packer looks almost certain to miss England's Rugby World Cup opener later this month after being sent off in the Red Roses' warm-up win over Spain. Packer was shown a straight red card an hour into the match for a dangerous lower-limb clear-out on Spain's Claudia Pena, while England were leading 76-7. With no bunker system at the game at Welford Road, referee Aurelie Groizeleau handed Packer a permanent red card for what she deemed was a 'crocodile roll' on the Harlequins full-back. Packer's red card means she will face a disciplinary committee and if the red card is upheld she will likely miss England's World Cup warm-up game against France in Mont de Marsan next Saturday and at least one World Cup group game. The Red Roses' tournament opener is against the United States at the Stadium of Light on August 22. They face Samoa (Aug 30) and Australia (Sept 6) in the group stages. Sanctions for a dangerous play at a ruck or maul range from two weeks (low end) to four weeks (mid-range) to eight-plus week (top end). Replays of the incident show Packer clumsily entering the ruck at moderate speed and appearing not to properly wrap with her left arm around Pena, before awkwardly leaving her left leg hanging in the air as she attempted to roll away. 'I think she's got herself in a funny position – that's not a deliberate croc roll,' said Vicky Macqueen, the former Leicester Tigers women's head coach, who was co-commentating on the BBC's live stream. 'I think she's just over-balanced. I don't think that's a yellow [card].' After a lengthy deliberation with the TMO Andrew McMenemy, Groizeleau summoned Packer to explain that she had illegally endangered Pena's left knee after not properly wrapping her left arm around her opponent. 'My view is that she's illegally targeting the leg [and] the entry is illegal. It's always an illegal action, so it's a permanent red card,' said Groizeleau. The incident was a reminder of rugby's no-nonsense approach to 'croc rolls' – a controversial technique used to remove an opponent standing over the ball which is known to cause serious knee injuries. World Rugby outlawed the manoeuvre in July last year. A wry smile spread across Packer's face as she was sent her marching orders by the Frenchwoman. 'Wow, I have to eat my words now,' continued Macqueen. 'I'm pretty shocked at the red. Yellow, maybe. But a red card for that? I'm not sure. For me that's a harsh, harsh red card.' The incident marred an otherwise perfect afternoon for England and Packer, who was captaining the Red Roses for the first time since her demotion as captain to Zoe Aldcroft at the start of the year. Packer herself had enjoyed a fine individual performance before her premature exit, having scored England's second try of her side's 97-7 demolition job against Spain, which was a record-breaking scoreline for the Red Roses. Quick thinking from @MarliePacker 👏 #RedRoses — Red Roses (@RedRosesRugby) August 2, 2025 It is the second time in recent memory that a Red Roses player has been sent off for a crocodile roll. England's Sarah Beckett received a three-match ban during the 2024 Six Nations for dangerous clear-out on Italy centre Michela Sillari, who suffered a leg fracture.

Leeds 1-1 Villarreal: FIVE THINGS WE LEARNED as Karl Darlow impresses and Daniel Farke shows tactical pragmatism against top opposition

Leeds United were held to a 1-1 draw by Villarreal Elland Road in their penultimate pre-season friendly on Saturday. Joel Piroe grabbed a well-taken equaliser in the second half after the visitors had gone ahead through Etta Eyong. A lively crowd of 35,273 turned out to watch Daniel Farke 's side take on last season's fifth-placed team in La Liga. There were encouraging signs from some of the new arrivals, particularly in midfield, but questions remain elsewhere. Concerns over the striker situation persist, while Jack Harrison's continued absence only adds to the uncertainty. AADAM PATEL was at Elland Road for Mail Sport and has noted down five things we learned from Saturday's friendly. Flexible Farke shows tactical pragmatism Daniel Farke has spoken about flexibility when it comes to formations during pre-season. The early signs are that when Leeds come up against weaker opposition, they will set up in a 4-2-3-1 as they did during most of their Championship games when they enjoyed more of the ball. But here against Villarreal, who finished fifth in La Liga last season, they set up in a 4-3-3 base formation. Leeds did the same against Man Utd in their friendly against Stockholm and in Ethan Ampadu, Anton Stach and Sean Longstaff, they began with a solid midfield three against Villarreal. In particular, the two new signings showed their quality and more than held their own against the Spanish side while Ilia Gruev and Ao Tanaka, who came off the bench, showed why they will have important roles to play this season. Harrison saga drags on Going into this friendly, one of the biggest questions was how the Leeds fans would react to the return of Jack Harrison at Elland Road. That question was put to bed when Harrison wasn't named in the squad. He was booed by his own fans in Stockholm. Harrison twice decided in recent years that he didn't want to be at Leeds and still has Everton — where he was on loan for the last two seasons — in his Instagram bio. The situation remains complicated and with a fortnight to go before the season starts, it is hardly ideal for Leeds to have one of their highest earners in a state of limbo. The failed pursuit of Igor Paixao has only added to the tensions and though Wilfried Gnonto has impressed in pre-season, he is a much better player down the right. Striker search grows more urgent With each passing day, the need for a top-quality striker becomes clearer. Lukas Nmecha had two good opportunities in the first half but failed to take them and though Joel Piroe showed good instincts to equalise for Leeds, he is unproven at the top level. With Patrick Bamford and Mateo Joseph out of favour, Leeds simply cannot afford to start the season with just Nmecha, Piroe and Harry Gray as their centre forward options. They went in with a bid of £26million for Rodrigo Muniz in June that was rejected by Fulham, who value the Brazilian at around £40m. Muniz is keen to start more games, especially in a World Cup year. Mail Sport understands that Leeds are keeping their options open and have a back up list but in a congested market where top strikers are hard to come by, they need to make a decision imminently. Darlow impresses but keeper exit looms It was hardly ideal that Leeds' new keeper Lucas Perri was ruled out with a niggle but Karl Darlow made two great saves in the first-half to show why he will be an able deputy. Darlow was replaced by Illan Meslier at half-time, who made a good save but could do nothing to keep out Etta Eyong on the rebound. With Alex Cairns as the fourth keeper on the books, one keeper is surely on his way out and that looks set to be Meslier but Leeds are yet to receive an offer for the Frenchman. The other two are classed as homegrown players and certainly more used to the role as a back-up. As for Meslier, who is 25, it would be an almighty surprise if he plays again at Elland Road this season. Perri is expected to make his debut next Saturday when Leeds take on AC Milan in their last pre-season friendly in Dublin. Schmidt struggles in defensive audition With Jayden Bogle absent, Isaac Schmidt was given the opportunity at right back but this was a performance that highlighted how important Bogle will be for Leeds in the Premier League. Schmidt struggled against Yeremy Pino, who has played 15 times for Spain and though he did get into some dangerous positions going forward, the 25-year-old lacked the threat that Bogle possesses. Defensively, he was too easy to get past and Villarreal's goal came from his side. Schmidt looks set to join Werder Bremen on loan and this was a timely reminder that Leeds could do with another second-choice full back alongside Sam Byram. In Bogle and Gabriel Gudmundsson, they have solid starting options but Farke will be aware that any kind of injury or suspension will leave them exposed down the flanks.
