MADRID, June 3, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Peru took center stage at the 3rd edition of the Talía Awards, held on May 12 at the Teatro Fernán Gómez Centro Cultural de la Villa in Madrid. Organized by the Academy of Performing Arts of Spain, under the leadership of President Cayetana Guillén-Cuervo and First Vice President Eduardo Galán Font, the prestigious gala honors excellence in Ibero-American theater. This year, Peru was honored prominently for its artistic excellence and cultural presence.
Celebrated Peruvian actress, director, and producer Ana María Estrada, head of Dakini Productions, who currently serves as President of the Hispanic Organization of Latin Actors (HOLA) in New York, participated as an official presenter at the ceremony. She was joined by award-winning Peruvian producer Carlos Arana, together amplifying the visibility of Peruvian performing arts on one of the most important platforms in the Spanish-speaking theater world.
Three Peruvian theatrical productions were selected as finalists in the category Best Latin American Performing Arts Production, which recognizes Spanish-language theater produced outside Europe:
"Cisnes", directed by Alberto Ísola, a poetic exploration of transformation.
"Discurso de Promoción", a collective work by the iconic group Yuyachkani, directed by Miguel Rubio, addressing themes of memory and identity.
"La Mariscala", co-directed by Mateo Chiarella and Lucho Tuesta, focusing on the historical figure Francisca Zubiaga de Gamarra.
Peru's strong presence at the 2025 Talía Awards underscores the growing international recognition of its theater scene, celebrated for its artistic depth and universal resonance grounded in a distinct cultural identity.
From Madrid, the applause echoed for Peru — for its talent, its stories, and its creative vision — as Peruvian voices continue to captivate international stages with pride and authenticity.

Real Madrid Shortlists This Striker As Latest Signing

Real Madrid is interested in signing a veteran striker and has already shortlisted a La Liga star in that respect according to Mundo Deportivo, which cited anonymous sources. Because of newfound domestic dominance from bitter rival FC Barcelona, and being outclassed by Arsenal on the continent in the Champions League quarterfinals, Madrid finished this season without major silverware. Its 2023/2024 campaign under the since departed Carlo Ancelotti was a different story, however, with Los Blancos enjoying a European Cup, La Liga and Super Cup treble. One of the unexpected heroes of that immortal campaign of course, however, was Joselu. Coming off the bench to sink Bayern Munich in a dramatic UCL semifinal second leg at the Bernabeu, he then fled to Qatar for what should be one last big career day in his mid-30s. Though Kylian Mbappe did a fine job in a new role as a central number 9, winning Europe's Golden Boot in the process, perhaps one of the reasons for coming up short last time round was the lack of a veteran marksman who could come off the bench and score a much-needed goal. Under Xabi Alonso in 2025/2026, Madrid seeks to provide the legendary midfielder with such an option by pursuing Ante Budimir according to Mundo Deportivo. Scoring 24 goals and providing four assists as Osasuna finished ninth and only just missed out on European qualification to Rayo Vallecano, Budimir turns 34 on July 22 and can be picked up for a cut fee. That's around $9 million (€8 million) if his next stop is elsewhere in Spain, with another couple of million euros slapped on to the price if a potential suitor is located elsewhere. If Budimir could be bought and scores the important goals to land titles like Joselu did, his transfer would pretty much end up paying for itself. Though Kylian Mbappe will likely remain Xabi Alonso's first choice for the striker's position, bringing in Budimir would obviously give the ex-Leverkusen tactician further options up front. Essentially, the potential new acquisition would battle for leftover minutes with Endrick, who enjoyed little prominence on Ancelotti's watch at Real Madrid but could now be reunited with him on international duty for Brazil.

Nico Paz the strongest candidate to replace Florian Wirtz at Bayer Leverkusen

Sport Bild (via @bayer04Xtra) reports that Como's former Real Madrid player, Nico Paz, is the strongest candidate to replace Florian Wirtz at Bayer Leverkusen this summer. Through a buyback clause worth around €8m, Real Madrid are set to bring the Serie A Young Player of the Year back to the club, after only a year away, so he can play in the Club World Cup. After the inaugural edition of the tournament, Madrid will look to sell the 20-year-old on. Advertisement Paz wants to play regularly for a coach who can help him develop even further, and in the Champions League. All the things that Leverkusen can offer next season. The 20-year-old has already stated that he will not stay at Como this season. Madrid will demand around €30m for Paz, which will not be a problem for Leverkusen once they sell Wirtz. The LaLiga side could also look to include a buy-back clause in the deal, similar to when Dani Carvajal swapped the Bernabeu for the BayArena. What also plays into Leverkusen's hands is that they were so cooperative with Madrid when the Spanish side came for Xabi Alonso. GGFN | Jack Meenan

Who Cares If Madrid is Landlocked? The Maritime Vibe is Everywhere.

More than 450 years ago, King Philip II of Spain decreed Madrid — a somewhat sleepy mountain town in the middle of the Iberian Peninsula — the capital of his empire. Many historians consider it an odd decision for a ruler whose maritime empire extended across three oceans and five continents and was connected by the largest navy the world had ever seen. Not only is Madrid 220 miles from the nearest Spanish port in Valencia on the Mediterranean, but it's also 2,000 feet above sea level. A bustling seafaring city like Cádiz would have been a more obvious choice. And given today's tourism-driven economy in a country that visitors associate with sunshine and beaches, Madrid's lack of a sea coast might seem an even greater handicap than it was for Philip. But the city's role as the center of a once vast maritime realm has eternally linked it with the sea in myriad ways. Museums, food, massive anchors and beaches: Here's a guide to Madrid's seaworthy treasures. Neptune and Friends Let's start with the god of the seas. In the heart of the city, on the Paseo del Prado — just steps from City Hall and Madrid's great art venues such as the Prado and the Thyssen-Bornemisza — stands a towering and rather hunky 1780s statue of Neptune wielding his trident in a multitiered circular fountain. He appears to be arriving in town on a chariot made of shells, pulled from the frothy depths by sea horses and dolphins. It's a beloved local monument and the de facto gathering spot for one of Madrid's two soccer teams (Atlético de Madrid) after big wins. Neptune is far from the only seafarer in the city. Parks and plazas are littered with monuments and mementos of famous navigators, admirals, captains, sea battles and an astonishing number of massive anchors. Tritons and dolphins abound in fountains in Retiro Park and in the grand Plaza de la República Argentina, where life-size bronze dolphins leap, leading locals to refer to it as the 'plaza of the dolphins.' Street names include Calle del Almirante (Admiral Street) and Calle del Barco (Boat Street), as well as ones honoring explorers such as Nuñez de Balboa and Juan Sebastián de Elcano, and naval heroes like Álvaro de Bazán and Blas de Lezo. Both a street and a plaza bear the name De la Marina Española and they're nowhere near each other. There's even an altar in the shape of a boat in the parish church Nuestra Señora del Carmen y San Luis. Want all of The Times? Subscribe.
