Lakers jersey history No. 2 — Jarred Vanderbilt

Through the 2024-25 season, the Los Angeles Lakers have had a total of 506 players suit up for them, going back to their days in Minneapolis. Some were forgettable, some were serviceable, some were good and a select few were flat-out legendary. As the Lakers approach their 80th season of existence (they were founded back in 1946 as the Detroit Gems in the National Basketball League), LeBron Wire is taking a look at each player who has worn their jersey, whether it has been a purple and gold one or the ones they donned back in the Midwest during their early years. Here's a look at current Lakers forward Jarred Vanderbilt. Vanderbilt was a second-round draft pick by the Orlando Magic in 2018. He played one season of college basketball at the University of Kentucky, and he got very little playing time during his first two seasons in the NBA. During the 2020-21 season, his third in the pros, he started to emerge as a strong defender and rebounder as a member of the Minnesota Timberwolves. He was sent to the Utah Jazz during the summer of 2022 as part of the deal that brought Minnesota's Rudy Gobert, and in February 2023, he arrived in L.A. as part of the trade that jettisoned beleaguered guard Russell Westbrook. Lakers fans quickly took a liking to the energetic and defensive-minded Vanderbilt, as he helped the team surge late in the season and reach the Western Conference finals. He has been riddled with injuries since, but after returning from a foot injury midway through the 2024-25 campaign, he remained relatively healthy. His big weakness is his lack of outside shooting, which has caused his playing time to dwindle during the playoffs. But he can still help out off the bench as an energy and hustle player as L.A. looks to become an elite team again. Arteta backs Arsenal signing to ‘destroy' Premier League defences

Mikel Arteta has backed Viktor Gyokeres to destroy Premier League defences at Arsenal this season. Gyokeres scored his Arsenal goal during the club's 3-0 win over Spanish side Athletic Club on Saturday. The Swedish striker opened the scoring at the Emirates with a brilliant header from Martin Zubmendi's cross. Excitement at Arsenal is high for the arrival of Gyokeres, who scored 97 goals in 102 games over the last two seasons for Sporting Lisbon. Arteta has backed the new recruit to thrive in North London, insisting the 27-year-old has the attributes to destroy defenders. Asked what Gyokeres will bring to his side, Arteta told the media: 'I think his goals, his threat, I think he pins both centre-backs. 'He is a player that when you leave him with space one-against-one, he's going to destroy you. He's going to create a lot of space as well for us. In any situation there's a player there that can score a goal.' Read – See more – Follow The Football Faithful on Social Media: | | | |

On Saturday, Jerry Jones was mum on Micah Parsons (which might say plenty)

Last Saturday, Cowboys owner and G.M. Jerry Jones said plenty about linebacker Micah Parsons. This Saturday, Jones said nothing. Asked about the status of the conversations with Parsons by Kristi Scales of 105.3 The Fan before the preseason opener against the Rams, Jones offered up s word shrimp salad. "I'm glad to see he's working out, in shape, and feels great, and so all of that's good, and, I don't have anything to comment on," Jones said. Given the extent to which Jones has been talking (and talking . . . and talking) about Parsons, the silence speaks volumes. Especially with the Hollywood premiere of the Netflix All-About-Jerry docuseries happening on Monday. This week will be about promoting The Jerry Show, which debuts on August 19. What better way to start the push for the latest NFL-Netflix partnership than to dominate the sports news with the signing of Parsons to his overdue long-term deal? Hey, if the series does well enough, maybe the NFL will end up owning 10 percent of Netflix, too.
