DARTS ace Matthew Edgar declared 'how does that happen?' after fellow star Michael Smith failed to qualify for the World Matchplay.
The tournament kicks off this weekend in Blackpool, with some of the game's biggest names in attendance.

But one notable absentee is former world champion Smith.
Bully Boy used to be the top player on the planet.
And just two years ago he was the No1 seed at the World Matchplay.
But a disastrous run of form this term saw Smith fail to qualify for the first time since 2013.

He is now ranked 21st in the world, with the potential to drop to 23rd — or even lower — by next week.
And the pressure appeared to get to Smith in May when he BROKE a dartboard in anger at the European Darts Grand Prix.
Now, ex-PDC slinger Edgar has questioned how Smith has slipped down the rankings so quickly.
He said on his Edgar TV YouTube channel: 'Most surprisingly, the number one seed from two years ago hasn't qualified. Crazy, I know.

"I still can't believe this: two years ago, Michael Smith was the number one seed at the World Matchplay. Now, he's not even in the event. How does that happen? It's madness.
"The prize money from that run – where he reached the second round – is now coming off. He beat Steve Beaton 10-2, then lost a high-quality game 11-10 to Chris Dobey.

'That means £15,000 comes off Smith's ranking, and that could drop him down to world number 23 by the end of this event. It could be even lower depending on results. Just let that sink in – from world number one to world number 23 in two years."
However, Edgar believes Smith can turn things around if he gets back to winning ways next year.
He added: "If you're going to have a bad year, this is the one to do it, because prize money is going to change drastically over the next couple of years. That means you could have a bad year now, and make it up with a good one next year.
'Michael Smith could definitely turn it around – he's got the quality, a former world champion and multiple-time winner.
'He could easily get back into the top 16 next year with a form turnaround and the prize money cycle shifting."

Brendan Rodgers is set to bolster his defence with the signing of Man City prodigy Simpson-Pusey Jahmai Simpson-Pusey will travel to Glasgow on Friday for a medical as the Manchester City starlet closes in on a season-long loan deal with Celtic. The 19-year-old stopper has agreed a switch to Parkhead after Brendan Rodgers fought off competition from other European clubs. Simpson-Pusey will compete with Auston Trusty, Liam Scales and Dane Murray for a start alongside first-choice Cameron Carter-Vickers. The England youth international has been tipped as the future of City's defence by Pep Guardiola after making six appearances last term - including a Champions League debut away to Sporting CP. Ex-Celtic star Charlie Mulgrew reckons the youngster - who was crowned EPL 2 Player of the Year - could quickly become a regular starter. He told Go Radio: "For me, it doesn't feel like Brendan Rodgers is completely satisfied with Trusty or Scales. He's tried to bring in Trusty when Scales was playing. Scales then gets back in. "So it indicates that he's not too sure and needs someone else to get back in alongside Carter-Vickers. "By the way, injuries look like they are catching up a wee bit on him. So they need another one in and Simpson-Pusey looks like the man. Man City will probably put some sort of clause that he'll need to play games or it will cost Celtic money. "It's interesting to put that on a 19-year-old. But you've got to trust Brendan Rodgers. You don't play for Man City if you are a bad player. He's young and bound to make a few mistakes. I'll be interested to see him." Simpson-Pusey's arrival could see Stephen Welsh leave the club either on loan or a permanent basis. The Hoops academy graduate has fallen out of favour under Rodgers and recently spent time on loan with Belgian side Mechelen. Mulgrew reckons a parting of ways is best for both parties as he said: "He's 25 years old. He's got to go. He's never going to be a regular at Celtic. Brendan Rodgers has shown that he's never going to start there. "He's been a decent enough servant. He's come in at times when they've struggled in that position and done ok. He's not a huge presence at the back. "The young lad's come through the system and done ok and he showed a good attitude. He was on loan last year and did ok. He looks like he's going to move on and it's best for all parties." Meanwhile Celtic scouts are reportedly watching Sweden international Viktor Eriksson in action for Hammarby. Valued at £2million, Eriksson joined Hammarby last season after a short stint in the MLS with Minnesota United. The 24-year-old made his international debut earlier this year and the Scottish Sun reports that Hoops talent spotter Paul Tisdale will run the rule over him in Thursday night's Conference League qualifier with Belgian side Charleroi.

He won this in 2022 from Appleby's Raasel! The action starts with a unique handicap over an extended 2m4f. One-time St Leger hope ALIGN THE STARS might cause a ripple for Charlie Johnston and Christophe Soumillon. A seventh in the Ascot Stakes at Royal Ascot wasn't a bad performance suggesting this trip is not totally out of his compass and his fifth at Newmarket last time wasn't too bad. He's down another pound now and I'm not sure this is the strongest renewal of all time. An each-way chance. The Group 3 Thoroughbred Stakes is for three-year-olds over 1m and Opera Ballo was my pick here but I'll go for DIEGO VENTURA now given form on what is sure to be sodden ground. Another handicap in the Golden Mile over, you've guessed it, 1m. BOPEDRO was fifth in this last year off 96 and hasn't won a race since yet goes in now off 98. All in all he's a badly handicapped horse especially at the age of nine. That all said, Hector Crouch can have fun with this ride as there is no pressure from a horrible draw in stall 16. The old boy will be dropped out and ridden cold and try and fly home late. I'll chance a few quid each-way. Trainer David O'Meara is great in these races and ground conditions are not issue. Finally on ITV a conditions race over 1m1f. LIBERTY LANE has to give some weight away but will probably take all the beating for Clifford Lee and Karl Burke. My hope flopped at Royal Ascot in the Wolferton over a bit further, but he scored well at this track the time before and this level should be well within his reach. When he's on a going day he's quite a decent horse. Good luck!
