Dame Joanna Lumley has thrown her support behind the assisted dying Bill

Actress Dame Joanna Lumley has said she 'wouldn't mind' undergoing assisted dying if she reached a 'miserable' state where she was unable to talk or eat without help.
The 79-year-old said she supported the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill, which was backed by MPs in the Commons last month, that would allow terminally ill adults with fewer than six months to live to apply for an assisted death.
Asked about the Bill in an interview with Saga Magazine, Dame Joanna said: 'People are terribly anxious about it and think one may be coerced (into voluntary euthanasia).
'But I'm saying this now when nobody's coercing me, don't let me turn into somebody who doesn't recognise the people I love most, where I'm having a miserable time. PA Media
'When I get to the stage where I can't speak and have to be fed, that won't be me any more and that's when I wouldn't mind saying farewell.'
The Bill would see those wishing to go through assisted dying require approval by two doctors and a panel featuring a social worker, senior legal figure and psychiatrist. It will next come before the House of Lords for further debate and votes.
One of the Bill's most high-profile backers has been TV presenter Dame Esther Rantzen, 85, who has terminal cancer, and recently urged members of the House of Lords not to block the legislation.
Dame Joanna is best known for her roles as Patsy Stone in the BBC sitcom Absolutely Fabulous, Sapphire in ITV supernatural series Sapphire And Steel, and in The New Avengers, the 1970s revamped version of 1960s ITV spy series The Avengers.
She will appear in season two of Netflix supernatural series Wednesday as Grandmama in August.

Loose Women's Kaye Adams sparks outrage after 'rude' comment to co-star

Loose Women viewers were left gobsmacked after Kaye Adams made an unexpected remark on Thursday Loose Women star Kaye Adams sparked outrage after she made a "rude" comment to her co-star on Thursday (July 24). ‌ In the latest instalment of the hit ITV chat show, Kaye was joined by panellists Coleen Nolan, Judi Love and Nadia Sawalha to discuss the day's hot topics from Britain and beyond. ‌ The conversation soon veered towards their preferred bedtime attire as nightdresses have recently become all the rage in the fashion world. ‌ Coleen strutted out in a lengthy blue nightie, confessing she'd likely lounge about at home in it due to its "comfy" nature. "But I'd take it off before I got into bed," Coleen quipped, revealing herself to be a "naked sleeper", reports Belfast Live. ‌ Nadia chimed in with her own nocturnal habits, saying: "Most of my life, I wore a bra to bed every single night, and when Mark [Adderley, her husband] first met me, the first time we got together, he said to me, 'I've never met a woman who gets dressed to go to bed'." She also disclosed her penchant for wearing scarves to bed, which has become running joke in her family. "That's such a running joke about our first night together and I had a scarf wrapped around my neck about three times," she recounted. ‌ "I think I'm quite shy... It's a protection thing, it's just weird but I can't ever sleep naked... But in the last five years, I've taken my bra off and wear a nightie." As Nadia delved deeper into her story, Kaye couldn't resist steering the topic back to the scarf, before making an unexpected comment that left the studio audience gobsmacked. ‌ "I'm sorry, I just can't get over the scarf. Did you have a muff?" she inquired, to which Nadia humorously responded: "Well, I used to. The good old days." Judi and Coleen couldn't contain their laughter, prompting Kaye to swiftly transition to the competition segment. However, the programme's audience didn't share the same amusement, with many expressing their discontent on X (formerly known as Twitter). "Kaye said to Nadia, 'Have you got a muff?' Did I just hear that?" one person wrote, with another adding: "If a man had said that on tv at lunchtime?! Never usually watch and now switched off." A third said: "Can't believe Kaye's just asked that on Loose Women, what's happening?"

Love Island loophole allowing dumped stars to return as angry fans 'call Ofcom'

Fans of the ITV2 dating show Love Island have discovered a loophole that allows dumped Islanders to be brought back if bosses choose to do so. m Love Island fans have threatened to 'call Ofcom' as they discovered a loophole that could help bosses bring back stars who have been voted off. ‌ It comes after the shock revelation that dumped Islanders Megan and Blu would be making their way back to the villa just days before the final, even though Megan was voted off by the public and Blu was dumped by his fellow Islanders. ‌ Viewers were outraged to discover a clause in ITV's terms and conditions for the dating show which claimed that producers will be able to bring back a Islander despite the vote. ‌ The clause that reads: "The producers of the Programme may in their discretion reintroduce an Islander seen in earlier stages of the competition who was previously evicted. The Programme producers' decision will be final. " And when the clause surfaced on social media, angry viewers weighed in with as they claimed that the government-approved regulatory and competition authority for broadcasting must be informed. One wrote: "Ofcom must hear of this!! Them bringing Megan back despite the reason she was dumped, defies the agreement of the public vote + coming back at this stage, she's almost guaranteed a spot in that final. It's unfair." ‌ Another claimed it could spell the end of the progamme, as they said: "Once they start doing it, it's the beginning of the end of the format. Nobody will care who is dumped if they just choose to bring them back." However, another user pointed out that this is not the first time that any of this has happened, as they referenced the fact that Mike Thalassitis and Sam Gowland made a similar sort of comeback in 2017, which, at the time, left then-contestant Olivia Attwood in particular in shock. But in appearing to justify the decision behind the voting clauses, one user said: "Love island barely has a strict format as it is, I don't know what people expect here," whilst another. ‌ Another clause explains to viewers that any new sort of voting format can be introduced at any time, insisting: "Throughout the Programme, the Promoter reserves the right to introduce any other votes in a format which will be announced in the Programme including but not limited to a vote by the public for islanders they would like to see coupled up, as indicated in the Programme, the app and/or website. " Just ahead of her return, Megan expressed her anticipation, saying: "I'm excited to go back in, I think I left quite abruptly and I'm going back in for some clarity. It was an easy decision to make. When you can't speak to people for a couple of weeks and have to watch them on telly every night, you want some answers." ‌ Megan had just struck up a connection with Conor before being booted out of the villa. She left alongside Remell last month after she was voted as one of the least popular contestants - however, she's back for another chance. After Megan left, Conor connected with a number of Islanders but nothing seemed to work. He brought back Harry's ex Emma from Casa Amor, but things didn't work out. He'd been friends with Shakira from the start - and the two later explored a connection. She then broke things off with Casa Amor's Ty to pursue things with Conor. The news came after Emma and Boris were brutally dumped from the Island. It came after Maya Jama crashed the Love Island festival to deliver the news of the public vote. It was revealed that Yasmin and Toni and Cach and Ty had received the most votes. ‌ And on Wednesday night, viewers were left fuming as just one day that another dumping would place .An important decision had to be made as a third star was revealed to be leaving. A vote had revealed the favourite Islanders by fans, and those viewers were not keen on. Yasmin, Ty, Toni and Cach left with a huge decision in their hands. Being the favourites, it was up to them who else left the show, and it was between new bombshell Angel and Billykiss. They understandably found it a tough choice, conflicted over who to pick as they discussed it between them. They did come to a decision in the end though, and ultimately it was Billykiss who was dumped. Angel was saved ahead of the double return to the villa made by Megan and Blu. Viewers watching at home were furious with the latest dumping, with her popular amongst fans of the show. ‌ Fans had hoped Billykiss would have stayed in the villa, with many shocked she was even in the bottom. Angel also came as a surprise to some fans given other Islanders that fans are not so keen on. Taking to social media, fans fumed about the exit, with one fan saying: "Billykiss has been done so dirty." Taking to social media, fans fumed about the exit, with one fan saying: "Billykiss has been done so dirty." Another fan said: "Okay, so Billykiss is leaving? Dang!!" as a third viewer posted: "Wait but what has Billykiss done to you guys?" Another viewer said: "I feel so bad for Billykiss."
