Olympic ice dance champion Cizeron partners with Fournier Beaudry

Reuters02-03-2025

March 2 (Reuters) - Olympic ice dance champion Guillaume Cizeron of France is teaming up with Canadian Laurence Fournier Beaudry, he said on Sunday.
Five months ago Fournier Beaudry's former partner Nikolaj Sorensen was suspended for six years for sexual maltreatment.
"Today the universe offers us a new adventure," Cizeron wrote in an Instagram post under a photo of himself and Fournier Beaudry. "A duo born from friendship, respect and love for the sport. A dance written by the years, and fueled by the fire of our dreams. A new story begins."
Although the post did not specify which country they would represent, the 32-year-old Fournier Beaudry is now listed under the France flag on the International Skating Union's website.
Cizeron, 30, and Gabriella Papadakis won the 2022 Beijing Olympic gold medal and five world titles before announcing their retirement in December.
Sorensen, born in Denmark but who represented Canada, was suspended for a minimum of six years by Canada's Office of the Sport Integrity Commissioner amid an investigation over an alleged sexual assault of an American figure skating coach and former skater in 2012.
The allegation has not been proven in court.
Fournier Beaudry and Sorensen finished ninth skating for Canada at the 2022 Olympics and fifth at the 2023 world championships.
They both previously represented Denmark. Switching national allegiances is common in both ice dance and pairs figure skating because of the shortage of partners.
Papadakis recently partnered with American Madison Hubbell, who won gold in the team event at the Beijing Olympics, to skate in exhibition events in a bid to help clear the way for same-sex pairs to compete officially.

Key Rangers backroom team member leaves club by ‘mutual agreement'

ON GER WAY Key Rangers backroom team member leaves club by 'mutual agreement' RANGERS assistant coach Issame Charai is leaving the Ibrox club. The 43-year-old joined the Gers coaching staff in January of this year, following a spell as the manager of the Morocco Under-23 team. Charai was appointed assistant manager by Philippe Clement after experienced Dutch coach Andries Ulderink had quit for family reasons. When the Belgian boss was sacked in February, Charai remained in post as Barry Ferguson was named as interim head coach. Ferguson brought in fellow Rangers heroes Neil McCann, Allan McGregor and Billy Dodds with him but all four were relieved of their duties at the end of the season ahead of the American takeover of the club. Since then, Russell Martin has been unveiled as the 20th permanent manager in the Light Blues' history. The former Scotland international started work as head coach this week, with long-time right-hand man Matt Gill joining as assistant coach. That effectively meant there was no place for Charai and Rangers confirmed tonight that he has moved on. More to follow. Bryan Mbeumo breaks silence as Tottenham trump Man Utd with huge transfer offer

Bryan Mbeumo is keen to leave Brentford this summer after a standout season for the Bees and is a wanted man, with Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur - where Thomas Frank is the new head coach - both very keen So where will it be for Bryan Mbeumo? The Brentford star finds himself as, arguably, the Premier League's most wanted man. A long-time Newcastle United target, the Brentford forward, fresh from a 20-goal season in the top flight, won't be heading to St James' Park. According to those close to Newcastle, it's because they baulked at the Bees' transfer demands, but more particularly the Cameroon international's salary demands. Those close to the player claim he wasn't interested in a move to the North East. ‌ Instead, the No.1 choice has been Manchester United, who have made him their top target after tying up a deal for Wolves star Matheus Cunha. Offers have been made, but United have fallen short of Brentford's demands, a first offer of £45million up front with £10m in add-ons rejected, before a second bid was also turned down. ‌ But now Mbeumo has seen Tottenham hijack United's move, with new Spurs boss Thomas Frank pushing for a reunion with a player he knows so well. As exclusively revealed by Mirror Football on Friday night, the North London club have made a big-money move to get Mbeumo. Spurs have launched a £70m bid, worth £65m plus £5m in add-ons. All told, it's £10m more than United's last offer, with more guaranteed. It's understood Mbeumo still prefers to join United. Certainly they have the edge when it comes to wages, as the salary on offer at Old Trafford is between £150,000-£175,000-a-week with bonuses taking Mbeumo's expected package to £200,000-a-week. Spurs would have to break their strict wage structure to match that, with Mbeumo expected to earn around £130,000-£140,000-a-week. Bonuses would still see it fall short of the cash he would pick up at United. But as Spurs were making their move on Friday afternoon - and before it hit the public domain - Mbeumo himself stoked the transfer rumour flame on social media, amid suggestions he's reconsidering his options. Until then, Mbeumo hadn't reacted to Frank's departure as Brentford boss, but the 25-year-old duly used his Instagram account to do just that, sharing Brentford's post confirming Frank's exit - almost 24 hours later - captioning it with two prayer emojis. ‌ Let's just say it's open to interpretation what they meant. Thank you? Please take me with you? Ultimately the proof will be in the pudding. Intriguingly, Frank was candid about his desire to continue working with Mbeumo while still Brentford boss, comments that speak volumes about his thoughts of the player. "I'm the head coach. I want my best players to stay forever" he said. "I know that Bryan is very happy being here at Brentford, he's thriving, doing well and playing fantastic. What happens in the future? I don't know. ‌ "I've said many times, we are a selling club. But at the same time, we have to reinforce that there are 10 clubs in the world that aren't selling clubs. So, of course, if the right price - and that's going to be expensive - is coming, then I'm sure the club will be open for it. "But I'm very happy he's here, and I'm convinced that Bryan will still be happy playing football here." Now, Frank is preparing to be happy elsewhere. The question is whether Mbeumo will be happy with him. Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content. Emma Raducanu gets treatment for back injury in worrying scenes as she crashes out of Queen's 17 days before Wimbledon

Seventeen days before Wimbledon opens its doors for the 2025 Championships, the biggest name in British tennis is once again having to manage her body amid physical problems. It all relates to back spasms she suffered before the French Open and prior to arriving in Paris, the 22-year-old had to overcome her fear of needles to undergo acupuncture to help cure the pain. It was on these grounds nearly 12 months ago that Andy Murray injured his back and ended up never playing another singles match. It is not as severe as that but still, those in Raducanu's camp will be praying this incident does not disrupt her plans as she hopes to play in Berlin next week and then Eastbourne before a fourth appearance in the Wimbledon main draw. Zheng, the world No.5, won 6-2 6-4 in a drawn-out affair and will now face an American in the semi-finals – it will either be Emma Navarro or Amanda Anisimova on Saturday. Before walking out into the Andy Murray Arena, Raducanu made a point of taking AirPods out of her ears and putting them away, presumably because she wanted to hear the roar of the public for her entrance. How Zheng would cope mentally with a packed crowd cheering against her would play a significant role in the outcome of this contest. The Olympic singles champion, 22, was not exactly in the fans' good books when she decided in game six, while on break point on Raducanu's serve, to change her shoes. Pimm's-fuelled punters were not having any of it and slow-clapped while she sat on her chair and booed when she returned to the baseline, even though Zheng apologised several times for the interruption. 'It's wildly inappropriate' - Moment Emma Raducanu's opponent intervenes and ushers cameraman away 3 Raducanu was unconvincing on her own serve and looked tense and nervous in the opening games and was even questioning some of the calls made by the new electric line calling system. There were two chances, at 4-2 down in the first set, where she might have broken back immediately but Zheng, a huge star in her homeland, fought off those moments. Zheng – who had only won FOUR matches on grass before facing the 2021 US Open champion – sealed the first set with 49 minutes on the clock. It was in bizarre circumstances as she was on the floor, having slipped over again, but Raducanu failed to find the open court, hitting the ball into the net. A set down, Raducanu went backstage and took a medical timeout as she had treatment on a troublesome lower back region. During the first set, she could be seen stretching her back during a changeover. These were worrying scenes but unfortunately a situation that has become all too familiar with Raducanu since that historic Slam win in New York in September 2021. Perhaps a surge of adrenaline explains how she came out looking like a different player in the second set, racing into a 3-0 and then 4-2 lead, the first break in game one courtesy of a Zheng double fault. But with the temperature gauge recording 27.5 degrees, Raducanu felt the heat and soon it was 4-4 apiece as she gifted a break to her opponent due to her sixth of seven double faults in the match. Though she managed to stave off three match points in game 10, Zheng progressed when Raducanu's forehand sailed long.
