Thai AirAsia flight hit by hailstorm during descent into Chongqing, China
The Facebook page Outsider's Aviation reported on Saturday (July 19) that Thai AirAsia flight FD552 was struck by a severe hailstorm while descending into Chongqing, China.

The flight, operated by an Airbus A320 (registration HS-BBA), had departed Don Mueang International Airport in Bangkok on July 17 and encountered turbulent weather shortly before landing at Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport.
The aircraft sustained visible damage to its nose cone and cockpit windshield after being battered by hailstones.
Passengers and crew on board, totalling more than 147 people, described the aircraft shaking violently during the descent. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Due to the damage, the return flight FD553 from Chongqing to Bangkok was delayed for several hours.
Thai AirAsia later issued a statement confirming the incident, adding that the aircraft landed safely and that all affected passengers were provided with accommodation, meals, and ground support.
A replacement flight was arranged, arriving safely in Bangkok on July 18. - The Nation/ANN

At around 9.25am the train operator said longer travel times were still expected eastwards towards Pasir Ris. Commuters were first told to expect a 15-minute delay when travelling eastwards between the Boon Lay and Clementi stations due to a track point fault, according to SMRT social media posts at 6.03am. Slower train travel time extended to Buona Vista station, SMRT said at 6.32am, meaning the affected stations also included Dover, Jurong East, Chinese Garden and Lakeside. The delay was lengthened to 25 minutes, SMRT said at 7.17am, adding that free bus services are available between the affected stations. Westbound trains are running normally, it added. SMRT president Lam Sheau Kai said that a point machine fault occurred near Jurong East station during the start of service on the morning of Aug 6, leading to trains being driven slower for safe operations. He explained that a point machine controls train movements at rail junctions when trains switch tracks, and that engineers are working to fix the issue. Morning travellers reported on Facebook longer waiting times of up to 45 minutes at the stations, leading to them reporting to work late. Some also reported having to wait longer at stations on the North-South Line, such as at Marsiling, Admiralty and Kranji. Commuter Oon Siow Li questioned if passengers should still be allowed to enter the train platforms if there are delays during the morning rush hour. 'People board then notice there's a train fault and (are) stuck inside the train,' she wrote in a comment on Facebook. Multiple commuters, commenting on Facebook and X, said that the delays were longer than the suggested 25 minutes, with some asking for more realistic delay times to avoid offering 'fake hope'. Traveller Zhao Jieshi, commenting on SMRT's social media updates, said it took around an hour to reach Clementi from Lakeside, a three-stop journey that would normally take around 10 minutes. Some recalled the major breakdown in September 2024 between Jurong East and Buona Vista stations that saw services disrupted for six days. In an updated post on Facebook at 6.15am, SMRT suggested alternative travel options via its website, including bus services. SIA flight bound for Seoul returns to Singapore due to technical issues

Flight SQ600 had departed from Changi Airport's Terminal 2 at 8.15am on Monday (Aug 4, 2025), according to flight tracking website FlightAware. The flight returned to Singapore at around 9.55am, the data showed. The Boeing 787-10 was originally scheduled to arrive at Incheon International Airport in South Korea at about 3.30pm local time (2.30pm Singapore time) on the same day. Data from FlightAware showed that after the plane departed from Singapore, it turned towards the south-east shortly after entering Malaysian airspace. It then circled over the South China Sea before returning to Changi Airport. In response to queries from The Straits Times, an SIA spokesperson said the Boeing 787-10 turned back to Singapore shortly after take-off due to a technical issue. The plane landed safely in Singapore at 9.54am on Monday (Aug 4). The 338 passengers on board were provided with food vouchers while they waited for a replacement aircraft, the spokesperson said. At 12.55pm Singapore time on Aug 4, the replacement aircraft departed for Seoul, and is expected to arrive in Seoul at about 7.45pm South Korean time, SIA added. Typhoon Krosa expected to near Hachijojima Island, Japan, on Aug 1
TOKYO: Typhoon Krosa, also known as Typhoon No. 9, was slowly moving north-northwest on the Pacific Ocean south of Japan as of 9 a.m. Thursday (July 31), according to the Japan Meteorological Agency's 9:50 a.m. announcement. The typhoon's central pressure was 980 hectopascals and the top speed near the centre was 90 kph.
