Unborn baby boy fighting for life after 38-week pregnant woman and partner hit by racing P-platers on the Gold Coast
Casey King, 25, and her partner, Ryan, were heading home from a quiet night of board games when tragedy struck on the M1 at Bilinga on the Gold Coast on July 25.

The back seat where Casey sat took the brunt of a high-speed crash caused by two P-plate drivers who police allege were racing at speeds of up to 180km/h.
The car was so badly crushed that emergency crews had to remove the door entirely to free the mum to be, who was trapped for nearly an hour.
'It's just so unfair for a little baby,' said one of Casey's sisters, Alivia Nosti.
'I don't think the anger has set in (as) we are still in shock,' Casey's sister, Kayla Nosti, added.
An 18-year-old driver crashed into the couple's car, while the other driver didn't stop.
Casey, 38 weeks pregnant, was left trapped with a broken bone in her back.
'To turn up to the scene and see your friends in that state is horrific, and they were just frozen,' family friend Cassidy Hoare told 7NEWS.
'She's just like I need to be calm for bub, I just need to be calm.'
Casey required an emergency cesarean, delivering her baby boy, Henry, who was born unresponsive and in critical condition.
'He suffered a serious brain injury,' Alivia said.
'Brain bleeds; a fractured skull. A broken clavicle. They're living in a nightmare they can't wake up from.'
Ryan sustained minor injuries.
'While both of them are physically healing, the emotional toll is immense,' Alivia wrote in a fundraiser she set up for the young family.
The couple had just installed Henry's car seat that day.
They moved the front passenger seat forward to make room, so Casey sat in the backseat directly behind Ryan, where there was more space.
Multiple witnesses told police the two P-plate drivers were racing, and police investigations continue.
'We have to get it right. We owe that to the victims,' Superintendent Peter Miles said.
'Those innocent people just driving about their own business had nothing to do with this, we owe it to them to get it right.'
No charges have been laid, yet.
GoFundMe page has been set up to help the young couple focus on Henry's recovery.
'We don't know his future,' said Kayla.
'So hope and health for Henry.'

The loved one of a missing fisherman has revealed rescuers are in a race against time to find him as looming bad weather threatens to halt their search efforts. Mohammed 'Micky' Hamade, 35, set off from Dolans Bay, in Sydney's south, in his six-metre boat about 9am on Tuesday, but failed to return home that night to his wife and three children. Authorities later found his boat idling about 30km off Port Kembla about 12.15am on Wednesday, but there was no sign of Hamade. As a major search operation — which has involved not only authorities but scores of Hamade's loved ones— reached its fifth day on Sunday, Mohammed Saad shared a video to Facebook revealing the timeframe to find him is narrowing. 'It's the last good day for the next week to get out there,' he said, his eyes brimming with tears. 'We are currently on the way to Ulladulla. Thank you for everyone's help. Inshallah (god willing) we can find him and locate him today. 'As I said, the weather does worsen from tomorrow for the next week, with big wind and big rain. 'So today will most likely be the last day that we can head out.' Saad shared his gratitude for everyone who has assisted in the search to find Hamade, which has included a group of 40 volunteers. 'Thank you, thank you. Honestly, thank you,' he said. 'Not just from me, from his family, for everyone who has headed out. 'I wish I could show everyone the amount of messages I get about where to look and where to go and how to help. 'Micky deserved that. He deserved it more than anyone.' Hamade's family have offered a $25,000 reward for anyone who can help bring him home. Volunteers have spent the past few days travelling between Sydney and the NSW south coast to conduct searches in tough weather conditions. Friend Mick Kaz said he and 39 other men have been split into groups of four or five to pore over beaches, harbours, and headlands from Sussex Inlet down to Bateman's Bay. 'We have been out all night having a look through out the beaches, the headlands, the rocks, the cliffs — anything that could give us a chance,' he said on Sunday morning. 'We have tried to look for signs — and the main sign we looked for was seeing the currents push the seaweed and debris onto shore. 'Lord give us a miracle today. Bless us and give us a sign to try and locate our brother Mohammed.' The update comes as Hamade's friends have rallied to support his family, with a GoFundMe set up to assist them financially with bills and unforeseen costs as they navigate the crisis. Organiser Kassem Bazzi said Hamade 'was a devoted husband to his wife and a loving father to their three beautiful children' who was 'loved by many with his selfless nature, charming smile and laugh that lightened any mood'. 'His disappearance has brought darkness to whomever knows him. Leaving his family in unimaginable pain, facing uncertainty while trying to hold on to hope that has now diminished,' Bazzi said. 'Micky's friends are banding. Raising funds to help his wife and children with not only everyday expenses, bills, and any unforeseen costs as they navigate this crisis but to be able to establish a foundation that Micky is no longer around for.' Authorities involved in the search include Water Police, Marine Rescue NSW and Surf Life Saving, and the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, which has been managing several aircrafts.

‘The war is not over': Sarah Shaw and her six-year-old son released from US detention centre
New Zealander Sarah Shaw and her six-year-old son have been released from a US immigration detainment centre after three gruelling weeks. The mum and son were detained during a routine border crossing from Canada to the US on July 24. It quickly turned into a nightmare when the pair were refused release. Their concerned loved ones described the incident as 'abuse and federal kidnapping', pleading for their safe return in the weeks since. Ms Shaw's friend Victoria Besancon, who set up a GoFundMe for them that has raised over $90,000, shared the good news via the page on Sunday morning. 'Thanks for all your support and advocating. Sarah and her son have been released. While her lawyer's words were 'the war is not over' and there are still legal battles to be had, this portion has been won,' Ms Besancon's update read. 'Thank you to everyone who has supported, donated and reached out. We will continue to update the story as it unfolds but they are home safe and sound.' Ms Shaw and her son were detained by immigration and customs enforcement on July 24 and then transported to the Dilley Immigration Processing Centre in South Texas. The 33-year-old, who has lived in the US since 2021 and works in juvenile detention, was returning from dropping her two eldest children at the airport in Vancouver, as they were catching a direct flight to visit their grandparents in New Zealand. While trying to return to the US, Ms Shaw was unexpectedly detained because she hadn't realised part of her Visa was still pending. Ms Shaw is on a 'combo card' visa – a two-in-one card that works as a work visa, and a 1-360 visa, which can grant immigration status to domestic violence survivors. She had received a letter confirming her visa renewal, but hadn't realised that the 1-360 element of her Visa was still pending approval. Ms Shaw requested humanitarian parole – an emergency pass into the US – which Ms Besancon argued should have been approved, despite the minor clerical error in her paperwork. Without both elements of the 'combo card', re-entry into the US is not guaranteed. Ms Besancon slammed the decision not to release the mum immediately. 'Not only was she denied that right, but agents lied to her stating they had already requested it and she was denied. It was later confirmed that was a lie and no parole was filed or requested on her behalf,' she said. According to US Customs and Border Protection, a person without this documentation may be 'found inadmissable' and therefore deported, 'their applications may be denied and they may face abandonment of their pending application'. Ms Shaw's father, Rod Price, told Radio New Zealand that his daughter was shocked to be detained and managed to ring him before she 'locked up'. 'She went to go back across into the US and then I got a frantic call to say that she's being detained and 'they're about to take my phone off me' and 'they're locking me up for the night',' he said. Ms Besancon told her friend's experience is proof that the US has 'increasingly aggressive' attitudes towards immigration. 'I would strongly caution anyone outside of America from travelling and crossing borders right now,' she said. 'The state of our country and its attitude towards immigration is becoming increasingly aggressive. Due to our current administration, I personally feel there has been a large emboldening of racist communities within the United States. 'I love my country, but my country was built on immigration. I absolutely support those who want to come to our country to work and establish a life here. That is how America was founded and I believe that's how it should continue.'

Car seller thrown from balcony in Facebook marketplace ambush
A man has been arrested after an online car seller was attacked at his Staplyton home. A Facebook Marketplace seller has been thrown from his verandah and left needing spinal surgery. The 52-year-old man sold his 2013 Nissan Pulsar on August 6, and a few days later was confronted by three people at his Stapylton home. WATCH THE VIDEO ABOVE: Arrest made after marketplace attack. They were demanding a refund, Queensland Police said. The victim was allegedly thrown off the balcony, and beaten with a broken balustrade. He suffered serious spinal injuries that require surgery, Queensland Police said. The group then fled in a Volkswagen van. A 40-year-old Lockrose man was arrested following police investigation. He has been charged with with one count of grievous bodily harm, and one count of assaults occasioning bodily harm whilst armed/in company. He is set to reappear at Beenleigh Magistrates Court on September 17. Investigations are ongoing and anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
