ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - The first convoy of Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) withdrew from Aleppo on Friday under the supervision of the Syrian defense ministry, Syrian state media reported.
The convoy was headed toward the eastern side of the Euphrates River, according to state-owned SANA.
The withdrawal follows an agreement with the new authorities in Damascus for SDF-affiliated internal security forces (Asayish) to remain in two predominantly Kurdish neighborhoods of Aleppo city - Ashrafiyeh and Sheikh Maqsood.
The forces that remain in the neighbourhoods will work in coordination with the Ministry of the Interior, according to Bedran Ciya Kurd, an advisor to the Kurdish-led administration in northeast Syria (Rojava).
According to North Press Agency, a media outlet close to the Kurdish authorities, the forces in the convoy were from the People's Protection Units (YPG) - the backbone of the SDF - and the Kurdish Women's Protection Units (YPJ).
The SDF signed a landmark agreement with interim Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa on March 10 to integrate the SDF into the Syrian state apparatus. The agreement recognizes the Kurds as an integral part of Syria, includes a countrywide ceasefire, and stipulates the return of displaced Syrians to their hometowns.

Attack on vehicles in southern Syria injures 4
Shafaq News – Daraa On Sunday, unidentified assailants opened fire with light weapons on a civilian car and a passenger bus traveling from Suwayda toward Damascus, the capital of Syria, via the Busra al-Sham humanitarian corridor. Shafaq News correspondent confirmed that four people, including a child and a woman, were wounded in the attack near the Kahil area, with both vehicles damaged. No information has yet emerged regarding the perpetrators or their motives. On Friday, a woman died of her injuries after gunmen attacked two civilian cars in the same area as they crossed from Suwayda toward Damascus. The Syrian Civil Defense announced that a total of 97 families—comprising 385 people, including women and children—left Suwayda province individually through the Busra al-Sham crossing, adding that 57 families, totaling 227 people, also returned to Suwayda through the same crossing. Tensions in Suwayda have escalated in recent weeks following clashes between Druze, Bedouins, and government factions. Although a ceasefire was brokered, exchanges of mortars and heavy weapons have continued. Local and human rights groups accuse the Syrian government of enforcing a blockade on the province, while Damascus denies the allegation and insists that humanitarian aid deliveries remain uninterrupted.

Walk through history: Inside the home of a Kurdish hero
Shafaq News – Al-Sulaymaniyah The home of Sheikh Mahmoud Hafid Barzangi, known as the "King of Kurdistan," has been transformed into a museum showcasing his role in early 20th-century Kurdish uprisings against British rule. Located in Darikala, a village between Garmian and Al-Sulaymaniyah, the house retains modest furnishings, family photographs, and rugs that were used during his campaigns. Shafaq News correspondent toured the residence, capturing artifacts that reflect Sheikh Mahmoud's efforts for Kurdish autonomy and his advocacy for an independent Kurdish state. Born into a family with both religious Sufi and tribal influence, Sheikh Mahmoud Hafid, also known as Mahmoud Hafidzadeh Barzangi, emerged as a prominent political and social leader. He led a series of Kurdish uprisings in the 1920s, earning the title "King of Kurdistan" during a turbulent period in Iraq's history. One of his most notable battles took place at Bazian Pass (Darbendi Bazian), where he secured the strategic passage. The site later became known as the "Rock of Freedom" and was eventually converted into a public park called Berde Qaraman in Kurdish.
