PORT DICKSON, July 20 (Bernama) -- The Rahmah MADANI Sales initiative has proven to be an effective intervention approach in the government's efforts to help ease the cost of living of the people, especially at the grassroots level.
Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said the initiative continues to receive strong public support, especially with its expansion to all regions across the country, including suburban and rural areas.
He said that apart from providing immediate relief, the programme also offers a valuable platform for the ministry to engage directly with the community to obtain feedback, including suggestions for improvements and additional stock-keeping units (SKUs) that people would like to see.
"The community has acknowledged that this programme truly reaches the grassroots and fulfils their daily needs," he said.
'As we know, the allocation for the Rahmah Sales Programme has also been increased. So we hope that the 2026 Budget will further expand the programme's reach so that more people can benefit from it,' he told Bernama.
He said this when visiting the MADANI Rahmah Sales and Kenduri Rakyat programmes in Kampung Pachitan, held in conjunction with the MADANI Ukhwah Programme and the MADANI Government Members of Parliament Retreat here.
In addition to Kampung Pachitan, Armizan said the programme was also implemented at the Petanque Field, Batu 1, Port Dickson, offering 42 and 50 stock keeping units (SKUs) at discounted prices, respectively.
He noted that efforts to gather public feedback were further strengthened by the involvement of MADANI Government MPs in the two-day retreat by engaging directly with residents to better understand the realities of their daily lives.

Anwar-led talks yield ceasefire, reinforce Asean's role in regional peace

KUALA LUMPUR, July 28 (Bernama) -- The agreement on an immediate and unconditional ceasefire reached between Thailand and Cambodia during a special meeting held in Putrajaya on Monday highlighted Asean's role as an effective mechanism in resolving regional disputes, as both parties complied with the bloc's call for order. School of Law and Governance Senior Lecturer at Taylor's University, Dr Julia Roknifard, said the desire of Asean members to avoid interference in the internal affairs of the grouping, prompted by United States President Donald Trump's threats, has encouraged both Thailand and Cambodia to adhere to the principle of Asean centrality. "At first, they (Thailand and Cambodia) didn't seem so open to the idea that Asean can play a role, saying that they would like to negotiate on a bilateral basis between each other. Yet, Asean turned out to be the very mechanism to call them to order, and they complied. "The very fact that the Thai and Cambodian leaders had the confidence to hold the talks in Malaysia with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the host bodes well for Asean as a cooperative organisation,' she said when contacted by Bernama on Monday. Earlier, Anwar announced that Thailand and Cambodia agreed to an immediate and unconditional ceasefire amid rising tensions along their disputed border, following a special meeting he chaired in Putrajaya on Monday. Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Thailand's acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai attended the meeting. Also in attendance were United States (US) Ambassador to Malaysia, Edgard Kagan, and Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia, Ouyang Yujing. The US was a co-organiser of the meeting, while China was an observer to promote a peaceful resolution to the ongoing situation. According to Roknifard, both Cambodia and Thailand must work towards putting an end to the conflict, preferably for good, as such situations create an opening for external powers that are seeking to further their own interests. "This will be detrimental to the whole region as we will see instability, potentially a refugee crisis and the proliferation of weapons and increased criminal and militant activity. "None of this will be good for Asean, which is already struggling to address the conflict in Myanmar and potential conflicts in the South China Sea,' she added. During the special meeting in Putrajaya on Monday, Cambodia and Thailand reached a common understanding, including an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, with effect from 24:00 hours (local time) on July 28. The two South-East Asian neighbours have a long history of diplomatic rows over an 817-kilometre undemarcated stretch of their shared border. Tensions between Thailand and Cambodia have been simmering since May 28 following a skirmish between their troops near the disputed Preah Vihear border area, which claimed the life of a Cambodian soldier. The latest round of hostilities erupted on July 24. Armed clashes have been reported along Cambodia's northern border region, with fatalities on both sides. - Bernama

Malaysia mediates Cambodia-Thailand ceasefire with ASEAN support

PUTRAJAYA: Cambodia and Thailand have thanked Malaysia for its crucial mediation in achieving an immediate ceasefire after days of border clashes. The breakthrough followed a special meeting hosted by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who currently chairs ASEAN. Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet called the talks 'urgent and timely,' crediting Anwar's leadership for halting hostilities that had displaced thousands. 'Today's meeting yielded positive results to stop the fighting, which has caused loss of lives and displacement. We hope this sets the foundation for future de-escalation,' he said. Thailand's acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai echoed the sentiment, stating the ceasefire reflects Thailand's commitment to peace. 'Both sides agreed to implement the ceasefire in good faith,' he added. The agreement includes an unconditional ceasefire effective from midnight on July 28, followed by military and diplomatic talks. An informal regional commanders' meeting is set for July 29, while Cambodia will host a General Border Committee session on August 4 to further normalize relations. The US and China also played supportive roles, with their ambassadors attending the meeting. Hun Manet acknowledged their contributions, noting over 300,000 people had fled the conflict, including 140,000 Cambodians. The leaders expressed optimism that the deal would restore trust. 'This outcome allows hundreds of thousands to return home and rebuild cooperation,' said Hun Manet. - Bernama

Azerbaijan Seeks Global Support To Achieve Landmine-free Future

Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Malaysia Irfan Davudov delivers his opening remarks during the International Seminar: Towards a Landmine-Free World - The Case of Azerbaijan at the Asian International Arbitration Centre. --fotoBERNAMA (2025) COPYRIGHTS RESERVED By Suraidah Roslan & Ahmad Idzwan Arzmi KUALA LUMPUR, July 28 (Bernama) -- Azerbaijan calls on the international community to provide political support, financial assistance and technical expertise to help the country achieve a landmine-free future. Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Malaysia, Irfan Davudov, said he hopes to see other countries, including Malaysia, support their initiative to be recognised globally under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). bootstrap slideshow 'We expect the Malaysian government to make a decision on this issue. I believe that financial or technical assistance from Malaysia would be highly appreciated,' he told Bernama after the International Seminar Towards a landmine-free world-case of Azerbaijan, here on Monday. He said the Mine Action Agency of Azerbaijan (ANAMA) plays an important role in the demining process in Azerbaijan, which is expected to take about 20 years and will require around US$25 billion to finance. Although the demining process will take a considerable amount of time, he is confident that it can be achieved with the support of other countries. Chair of the Steering Committee of the ASEAN Regional Mine Action Centre (ARMAC), Shaharuddin Onn, said that ARMAC reaffirms its commitment to collaborating with Azerbaijan on the international stage, as ARMAC contributes to the global humanitarian mine action dialogue. Shaharuddin, who is also the Ambassador of Malaysia to Cambodia, said that ARMAC hosted the Azerbaijan Mine Action Authority (ANAMA) in 2024 to showcase ASEAN's model for inter-agency coordination in assisting victims and rehabilitation approaches for landmine contamination. 'This cooperation reflects the shared commitment between ARMAC and ANAMA. The partnership is tailored, collaborative, and based on cyber-focused solutions. In fact, I see today's seminar as part of that growing bridge in our cooperation.
