ESPN believes that Notre Dame football will be a top-5 team over the next few seasons
We all say that Notre Dame's football future is bright, and on Wednesday ESPN's Adam Rittenberg backed that idea up.
When looking ahead to who he believes will be the top teams over the next two seasons, he ranked the Irish as his No. 5 team. It's a slight jump from last year, when Notre Dame was No. 7, for more than a few reasons.
Rittenberg went on the explain that while the Irish aren't returning their starting quarterback, they should have a multiple year starts whoever (CJ Carr or Kenny Minchey) wins the job. He believes that the offensive line 'should be one of the nation's most talented groups,' along with the defensive line being loaded with talent despite having to replace more on this side of the ball.
He lauds head coach Marcus Freeman's roster management, noting that the transfer additions will help immediately and 'retaining arguably the nation's best running back room and its gifted young offensive linemen.' Rittenberg mentions Notre Dame's star power also, as running back Jeremiyah Love, linebackers Drayk Bowen, cornerback Leonard Moore and safety Adon Shuler should be household names.
As far as the coaching staff, Rittenberg has Freeman 'as one of the sport's top young coaches,' but did say that new defensive coordinator Chris Ash has 'big shoes' to fill replacing Al Golden.
Put all this together, Notre Dame has one of the brighter immediate futures in college football, as just four others teams are viewed as being potentially better. It's going to a be a great few years of Irish football, starting very soon.

In response to The Athletic's report about the alleged drama, ESPN president of content Burke Magnus said that 'Pat and his show are thriving on ESPN,' and 'We've continuously seen those out there that are seemingly obsessed with wanting to see Pat fail on ESPN. This rumor is just the latest example of that.'

Ohio 2026 tight end Preston Fryzel set to make official visit to Notre Dame Notre Dame is set to host multiple tight ends on official visits in the coming weeks as it looks to bolster its 2026 recruiting class. Central Catholic (Toledo, OH) product Preston Fryzel will be visiting campus this Friday through Sunday. The 6-foot-4, 220-pounder will be in South Bend for the second time since receiving a scholarship offer from the Fighting Irish May 21. Fryzel previously visited Notre Dame unofficially last Tuesday. In addition to ND, Fryzel also visited Miami unofficially earlier this month and officially visited Duke last weekend. He is also set to officially visit Iowa June 20 before making a decision on a school. Fryzel was a key piece in Central Catholic's march to the state title game last season. He earned all-state honorable mention from the Ohio Prep Sports Media Association after hauling in 43 catches for 807 yards and 10 touchdowns in 16 games. On3's Mike Singer has confidence that Notre Dame will land him, as he's put in a prediction for the Irish today (see below). Tight end has been a focus on the recruiting trail for the Irish. Fryzel is one of four tight ends still on ND's board. Waukee (Waukee, IA) four-star product Evan Jacobson recently rescheduled his official visit from June 20 to June 13, while Great Bend (Great Bend, KS) four-star Ian Premer and Lexington (Mansfield, OH) four-star Brayden Fogle are set for a midweek visits next week. Notre Dame does not currently have a tight end committed in its 2026 recruiting class. Pat McAfee reportedly thinks he can do College GameDay better on his own Two seasons as a host on ESPN's College GameDay has Pat McAfee wondering if he should leave the band and start touring solo. Granted, there's still a long way to go before that could even happen — McAfee has two years left on his GameDay contract — but according to The Athletic's Andrew Marchand, the thought of leaving ESPN's flagship college football show to start his own version has crossed McAfee's mind. Per The Athletic: "McAfee has mused with associates about starting his own, independent version of GameDay, according to sources briefed on discussions. This does not appear to be happening, at least not now. But he is mercurial and can make big decisions seemingly on whims. McAfee cares about his image. During a GameDay stop in Norman, Oklahoma, last fall, McAfee grew upset about being shown swinging and missing during a segment in which he faced a University of Oklahoma softball pitcher. McAfee, according to sources briefed on the incident, demanded to know the name of the GameDay staff member who put it on the air, but he was denied the information. Marchand also noted that contractual obligations haven't stopped McAfee from making career-altering decisions in the past. The former Indianapolis Colts punter left FanDuel in the middle of a reported four-year, $120 million deal to sign a licensing agreement for The Pat McAfee Show on ESPN. A solo McAfee show would surely face some serious trouble finding its footing on campuses as the biggest college games of the week are already dominated by GameDay and Fox's Big Noon Kickoff — both of which have network deals with the biggest conferences. Then again, there would be plenty of people happy to see McAfee's antics move far away from College GameDay. Considering McAfee has never been shy about bashing people who talk about him, we'll see if he has any response here soon enough.
