Oppo K13 5G review: Marathon runner in mid-segment

India Today22-04-2025

Oppo has launched its new midsegment smartphone, Oppo K13 5G, in India at a starting price of Rs 17,999 (8GB/128GB). The phone comes with several high-end features despite modest pricing. For instance, the phone packs a 7,000mAh battery, a 50-megapixel primary camera and several AI capabilities. It also features a pleasing design and a 6.67-inch AMOLED display. Let's delve deeper into the pros and cons of the Oppo K13 5G in this review by India Today Tech.
advertisementOppo K13 5G: Pretty designThe Oppo K13 5G comes in two colour options: Icy Purple and Prism Black. I have been using the latter for a week and I really like it. While the Oppo K13 5G features a slim profile that easily slips in your pocket, it has a bit of bulk. It measures 8.4mm in thickness and weighs 208g.
It boasts an elegant design, highlighted by a squaoval camera module on the rear, which houses a dual-camera setup. The metallic detailing on the camera island lends the phone a refined, premium feel.

The rest of the back panel maintains a clean, minimalist look with understated geometric accents. The only gripe is that it picks up a lot of fingerprints. Luckily, there is a case in the box.Oppo K13 5G: Big and bright displayThe Oppo K13 5G boasts a large 6.67-inch AMOLED flat display with 120Hz refresh rate. Impressively, the K13 5G's display is bright enough to let me work easily even under the direct sun. It has a peak brightness of 1200 nits (there is no HDR support though). I have also binge-watched Big Bang Theory on the phone and did not feel any discomfort at any given point. In fact, I am impressed with its vivid colours and smooth touch.
The flat display enhances the gaming experience by providing more precise and comfortable control. I did not face any accidental touches. Moreover, the minimal bezels on the Oppo K13 5G's display make the experience more immersive. The phone also has an in-display fingerprint sensor which is fast and reliable.
The Oppo K13 5G has a sidebar, which offers quick access to other apps
Oppo K13 5G: Performance and batteryThe Oppo K13 5G is powered by a Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 chipset, coupled with 8GB RAM (LPDDR4X). It runs on ColorOS 15, which is based on Android 15. It comes in two storage variants: 128GB and 256GB (UFS3.1).In my use, I found the Oppo K13 5G to be a fast enough phone that effortlessly handled day-to-day use well. Whether I was scrolling through Instagram, watching YouTube videos, or playing graphically demanding games, it offered smooth performance without any lag. However, switching between apps, or multitasking could be better. I noticed the K13 5G struggle as I juggled between YouTube videos and Instagram DMs.To push the limits, I put the phone under several benchmark tests. On AnTuTu, the Oppo K13 5G scored 6,93,089, while on Geekbench, it achieved a multi core score of 3073 and 1002 for single core, which are decent numbers for a phone at this price.
advertisementPowering through these tasks, the Oppo K13 5G packs a 7,000mAh battery with 80W flash charge support. And I must say, this is the best part of the phone. I typically expect a sub-Rs 20,000 smartphone to last me through the workday—around 10 to 12 hours of usage. However, the Oppo K13 5G has gone above and beyond these numbers. Even after hours of intensive use, including playing demanding games like Call of Duty, streaming Netflix, and listening to music for over four hours, the phone comfortably lasts a full 24 hours on a full charge. I watched 3 episodes of Big Bang Theory on the phone – 1.5 hours – and the battery dropped only 7 per cent (from 97 per cent to 90 per cent.)
The Oppo K13 5G supports Type-C charging support
The charging speed is also pretty fast. It offers an impressive 80W charging speed, fully charging the device from 0 per cent to 100 per cent in just one hour. In my opinion, the Oppo K13 5G stands out in the sub-Rs 20k segment for its exceptional battery capacity.advertisementOppo K13 5G: CameraOn the photography front, the Oppo K13 5G sports a 50-megapixel primary camera and 2-megapixel depth/portrait camera. The daytime images are quite vivid and bright, but details could be better. While the images are clear (in focus), the camera sometimes struggles to accurately capture the texture/detail of the subject.
The front camera clicks decent images. While it struggles a bit in low light, the selfies will turn out fine if you have ample light in your environment.
Coming to the portrait mode, both rear and front cameras struggle with edge detection, but they are okay for social media posting.

There is one more variant of the phone with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage for Rs 19,999. In fact, it is more than good enough. At this price, the K13 5G hosts a number of premium features including a Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 chip, 7,000mAh battery and an attractive design. There are some areas that could have been better, like for instance, the camera system. If you're looking for a marathon runner that doesn't break your bank, the K13 5G is worth a look.

Ather Rizta vs Suzuki e Access: Specifications compared

The electric two-wheeler space in India is rapidly evolving, with a blend of innovative startups and established players bringing in their latest offerings. While companies like Ola Electric and Ather Energy have gained significant traction, traditional manufacturers such as TVS, Bajaj, Honda, and Suzuki are now stepping up their presence. Among the latest to enter the fray is the Suzuki e Access, an upcoming electric scooter that's generating buzz ahead of its official launch.. Electric scooters have become a mainstay in urban commuting, thanks to rising fuel prices, increasing environmental awareness, and government incentives. With the likes of TVS iQube, Bajaj Chetak, Honda Activa e, and now the Suzuki e Access, traditional OEMs are now directly challenging new-age brands like Ather Energy and Ola Electric. One of the strongest contenders in this segment is the Ather Rizta, which has already established itself as a reliable and practical electric scooter for daily riders. As Suzuki prepares to launch the e Access, comparisons with the Ather Rizta are inevitable. Suzuki hasn't yet revealed the official pricing for the e Access. However, we do know that the Ather Rizta, is currently priced between RS 1.11 lakh and ₹ 1.51 lakh (ex-showroom), depending on the variant. Under the seat, the Suzuki e Access is powered by a 3.07 kWh battery paired with an electric motor that produces 5.49 bhp and 15 Nm of torque. The scooter claims a top speed of 71 kmph and offers a range of 95 km per charge. A full charge takes about 6 hours and 42 minutes. The Ather Rizta, on the other hand, offers more flexibility with two battery options—2.9 kWh and 3.7 kWh. Its claimed range varies from 123 km to 160 km, and it boasts a higher top speed of 80 kmph, making it the stronger performer in terms of both range and speed. While the Ather Rizta clearly leads in range and top speed, the upcoming Suzuki e Access could attract buyers looking for a balance between performance, brand trust, and likely a slightly lower price tag. With established players entering the electric scooter market aggressively, customers now have more choices than ever.

Mukesh Ambani to give Rs 151 crore grant to his alma mater ICT in Mumbai

Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries, has announced an unconditional grant of Rs 151 crore to his alma mater, the Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT), Mumbai. The announcement was made during his visit to the institute for the launch event of a biography titled Divine Scientist, chronicling the life and work of his former mentor, Professor M.M. Sharma. Ambani, who graduated from the institute in the 1970s when it was known as the University Department of Chemical Technology (UDCT), paid tribute to Prof. Sharma. Recalling his first lecture, Ambani said it left a lasting impression on his academic and professional journey. He praised Prof. Sharma not only as an academic giant but also as a quiet architect of India's economic liberalisation. 'Like my father, Dhirubhai Ambani, he had a burning desire to transform Indian industry — from a system of scarcity to global leadership,' Ambani remarked. 'These two visionaries believed that science, technology, and private enterprise could open the gates to national prosperity,' he added. Ambani described Sharma as a 'Rashtra Guru – a Guru of Bharat,' and credited him for influencing policymakers to dismantle the license-permit raj, enabling Indian industries to scale up, reduce imports, and compete globally. The Rs 151 crore donation was made in honor of Prof. Sharma's request. 'When he tells us something, we just listen. We don't think. He told me, 'Mukesh, you have to do something big for ICT.' This is my Guru Dakshina,' Ambani said. The contribution is expected to significantly strengthen ICT's research infrastructure and global collaborations.
