Reports: Bucks F Bobby Portis agrees to 3-year, $44M contract
Portis, 30, had until Sunday to decide on the player option worth $13.4 million. The new deal includes a player option in the final season of 2027-28, the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reported.
Portis averaged 13.9 points, 8.4 rebounds and 2.1 assists in only 49 games (seven starts) last season, when the NBA suspended him 25 games without pay for violating the league's anti-drug policy.
The NBA said Portis tested positive for the drug Tramadol, a medication used to treat severe pain among adults. Portis' agent, Mark Bartelstein of Priority Sports, told ESPN that his client confused Tramadol with an approved pain medication called Toradol.
Portis has averaged 13.6 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 339 regular-season games (99 starts) over five seasons in Milwaukee, where he has been a valued reserve voted third for the NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award in both 2023 and 2024. He also was a member of the Bucks' league championship squad in 2021.
For his career, Portis is averaging 12.0 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 654 regular-season games (153 starts) for the Chicago Bulls (2015-19), Washington Wizards (2019), New York Knicks (2019-20) and Bucks (2020-present).

As we edge closer to the start of the 2025-26 NBA season, teams are starting to prepare for training camp and preseason. This is the point in the summer when players begin to sign Exhibit 10 contracts, in the hopes of either earning a spot on a roster or being given a chance in the G League. Ron Harper Jr. is the Boston Celtics' first Exhibit 10 addition this summer. Harper Jr. will be entering his fourth NBA season, having originally signed with the Toronto Raptors as a rookie. He also spent some time with the Maine Celtics this past season, and will now get an opportunity to make an impression on Joe Mazzulla and his coaching staff throughout the summer. In total, Harper Jr. made 27 G League appearances this past season, split between the Motor City Cruise and Maine Celtics, where he averaged 18.2 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.8 assists, shooting 39% from deep on 8.9 attempts per outing. As the Celtics already have their two-way spots filled courtesy of Amari Williams, Max Shulga and RJ Luis, Harper Jr. will either make the main roster as the 15th and final member of the roster, or join the Maine Celtics in the hope of triggering a bonus should he stay with the team for 60 days. Of course, right now, his only focus will be on making a strong impression and working to improve his game. It is well-known that Harden and Paul have a complicated relationship. Altogether, Harden had played with these guys at some point in his career. From 2009 to 2012, Harden was teammates with Durant and Westbrook. In 2012, the Thunder made it to the NBA Finals before losing to the Miami Heat. The following year, he played with Paul with the Houston Rockets from 2012 to 2021, during which their relationship suffered. Harden reunited with Durant and joined Irving on the Brooklyn Nets from 2021 to 2022. From 2022 to 2023, Harden joined the Philadelphia 76ers with Embiid. In 2023, he joined the Clippers and plays alongside the likes of Paul George and Kawhi Leonard. In July, Paul returned to the Clippers after one year with the Clippers. James Harden and his impact on the Clippers Playing with these other guys meant that Harden had to share the spotlight. Yet with the Clippers, he has managed to stand out. Since 2023, Harden has made quite an impression with the Clippers. He's turned the team into an offensive powerhouse, leading the way. Clippers teammates Ivica Zubac and Norman Powell saw an increase in their numbers with the help of Harden. In addition, he has taken on the role of team leader, which he will likely share with Paul. Now that he's back home, Lopez is hoping to have another chance at an NBA Championship with his new-look squad. Brook Lopez sends message to Bucks after free agency decision Brook Lopez made the difficult decision to leave the Bucks this summer after spending seven seasons alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo in Milwaukee. The big man joined the Bucks in free agency back in the summer of 2018 and was a significant contributor to multiple playoff runs for Milwaukee, including one that culminated with the NBA Championship back in July 2021. In his introductory press conference with a contingent of media members from Los Angeles, Lopez took time to reflect on his time with the Milwaukee Bucks and ending a 50-year NBA Championship drought. 'I'm obviously proud of winning the championship,' Brook Lopez said in Las Vegas. 'But I'm thankful to all the players I played with, the coaches and staff, physical therapists, strength and conditioning people, all the people that helped put me in the position to be successful. So not many have had a chance to see how far the Clippers have come, from being an afterthought in the NBA to a highly-respected organization league-wide. 'It's crazy to see, but it's very cool. Seeing the climb, the ascent. I'm a Cali boy, so I grew up in the Valley in North Hollywood. Obviously, things were very different back then and to see where the Clippers have come now, it's just astonishing, it's beautiful, I'm glad to be a part of it, and hopefully I can help take him even further up. 'Free agency came, everything happened pretty fast, but looking at my options, I was just thrilled the Clippers reached out and were one of them. They've been a great team for quite a while now. In seven seasons with the Bucks, Brook Lopez averaged 13 points, 5.2 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 2.1 blocks per game while shooting 48.7 percent from the field and 35.7 percent from three. Lopez's career arc looks even more extraordinary when you take into account the sharpshooting big man attempted only 31 three-pointers in his first eight seasons in the NBA combined.
