NCAA Tournament roundup: Alabama rides historic shooting to down BYU
Mark Sears led a historic 3-point barrage with 10-of-16 accuracy from deep, racking up 34 points to power No. 2 seed Alabama to a 113-88 victory over No. 6 seed BYU in an East Region Sweet 16 matchup Thursday in Newark, N.J.
Alabama (28-8) made 25 3-pointers on 51 attempts, breaking NCAA Tournament records with both marks. The Crimson Tide are looking for their second straight Final Four berth.
Sears added eight assists and came one 3-pointer shy of tying the individual tournament record (Jeff Fryer, 1990 Loyola Marymount). Aden Holloway joined in with 23 points on 6-of-13 shooting from the arc.
Richie Saunders paced BYU (26-10) with 25 points and Egor Demin contributed 15 points and seven assists. The Cougars outscored the Crimson Tide 50-16 in the paint but went 6-for-30 (20 percent) on 3-point tries.

Freshman star Cooper Flagg tallied 30 points, seven assists, six rebounds and three blocks as the Blue Devils survived the Wildcats in Newark.
The Blue Devils (34-3) made 13 consecutive shots from the floor, including their first nine of the second half, to leap ahead before fending off a valiant Arizona comeback spearheaded by Caleb Love's season-high 35 points.
Kon Knueppel scored 20 points and Sion James 16 for Duke. Jaden Bradley contributed 15 and Henri Veesaar added 13 for the Wildcats (24-13), who couldn't keep up despite making 12 3-pointers.

Will Richard scored 15 points to pace six players in double figures, and the Gators defeated the Terrapins in San Francisco.
Alijah Martin added 14 points and Walter Clayton Jr. had 13 for Florida, which held a 29-3 advantage in bench scoring. The Gators (33-4) also outrebounded the Terrapins 42-20.
Maryland freshman Derik Queen, the Big Ten Freshman of the Year and potential NBA draft lottery pick, scored 27 points for Maryland (27-9). Guard Ja'Kobi Gillespie added 17 points.

Darrion Williams' driving layup with seven seconds left in overtime completed a dramatic comeback for the Red Raiders and salvaged an otherwise off night for Williams against the Razorbacks in San Francisco.
Williams also hit a 3-pointer from well beyond the top of the arc with nine seconds left in regulation to force the extra period. In the first half, he was only 2 of 12 from the floor.
Christian Anderson led Texas Tech (28-8) with 22 points while JT Toppin added 20. Kevin Overton had 12 off the bench. Arkansas (22-14), which led 61-45 midway through the second half, got a game-high 30 points from Johnell Davis and 20 from Karter Knox.

According to AggieYell (Rivals) Editor Mark Passwaters, Texas A&M is in pursuit, which could lead to a future visit. Currently, junior shortstop Kaeden Kent has yet to announce his return for next season, and although his return is assumed, nothing is guaranteed. Last season, Latta was highly productive, leading Cal Fullerton with a .362 batting average, 72 hits, 27 RBI, and three home runs. Two of them, Pennsylvania safety Joey O'Brien and Maryland cornerback Khary Adams have mentioned about playing with each other, and along with the Irish, they each are also considering Oregon and Penn State among other schools. Both of them are on campus this weekend, and it very much looks like they are enjoying their time in South Bend. On social media multiple photo's and videos were shared, as O'Brien and Adams posed while donning the mostly Green and Gold in a shot shared by the Pennsylvania star. Adams then responded asking what he was thinking about doing. That wasn't the only thing going around, as O'Brien was also seen in a mostly Gold room holding a Notre Dame guitar (see below). Adams is ranked by 247Sports at the nations No. 75 overall player, while O'Brien is their No. 65 national prospect. The safety has scheduled a commitment date for June 20th, while the cornerback still has yet to give a timeline for his decision. Regardless of when they will each commit, the Notre Dame is pulling out all the stops to show them that they could be successful both on and off the field by joining the program.

Kade Anderson's dominant outing carries LSU in 4-1 win over Arkansas at the College World Series
OMAHA, Neb. -- Kade Anderson limited Arkansas' high-powered offense to three hits and a run in seven-plus innings, LSU knocked Razorbacks ace Zach Root out of the game early, and the Tigers beat the rival Razorbacks 4-1 in the College World Series on Saturday night. Anderson, a projected top-five overall pick in the MLB amateur draft next month, kept Arkansas batters off-balance with his four-pitch mix and struck out seven to become the national leader with 170. 'Outstanding performance, one we've been accustomed to on opening night of every weekend,' LSU coach Jay Johnson said. 'He got stronger as the game went along, and he executed pitches at a high level, which you have to do against that offense. Offensively, we did just enough.' LSU (49-15), which won the SEC regular-season series against the Razorbacks in Baton Rouge last month, improved to 4-0 in all-time CWS meetings. The Tigers will play UCLA on Monday night as they continue their bid to win a second national title in three years. Arkansas (48-14), in its 12th CWS and looking for its first championship, meets Murray State in an elimination game Monday. 'Obviously, we need to move on from this one and get over it and not think too far down the road,' Arkansas coach Dave Van Horn said. 'We have to take care of business Monday because if we don't, there's no Tuesday. You can't get all uptight about it. These guys have come back and won games. They've done some great things this year.' The matchup between the No. 3 national seed Razorbacks and No. 6 Tigers marked the first time since the NCAA Tournament went to its current format in 1999 that the highest remaining seeds have met in their CWS opener. The Tigers were up 3-0 in the second inning after Root (8-6) issued two walks and allowed a bunt single to Daniel Dickinson to load the bases. Chris Stanfield singled in a run and another was forced in when Root plunked Michael Braswell III in the foot. The third came home when Josh Pearson grounded to short and beat the relay throw to first on the double-play attempt. That was all for Root, whose 1 2/3 innings marked his shortest start of the season. 'When you're facing that caliber of arms, you aren't going to get a ton (of runs) maybe like you would playing in SEC ballparks where home runs are a real thing with every pitch of the game,' Johnson said. 'We did an excellent job setting the table. I've coached enough games here to know getting the lead is really important.' Van Horn said it was a hard decision to take out Root. 'The game was about to get out of hand,' Van Horn said. 'Yeah, it's early. The wind was blowing in. Scoring a lot of runs against Anderson, to me, was something that wasn't going to happen. I hated to do it, but I felt like it was the right decision and I'll stand by it.' Gabe Gaeckle, who moved to the bullpen after making nine starts, kept his team in the game. The left-hander from tiny Madisonville, Louisiana, went seven innings for the third straight start and departed after Cam Kozeal singled leading off the eighth. Chase Shores retired three straight and turned things over to freshman Casan Evans in the ninth. Evans worked around Charles Davalan's leadoff single to finish off the Razorbacks. The full house of more than 25,000 was evenly split between the fan bases. Well before first pitch, Arkansas fans countered passionate 'L-S-U' chants by raising their arms and doing the Hog call: 'Wooooooooo. Pig. Sooie!' Influencer and former LSU gymnast Livvy Dunne was in the front row in a half-LSU, half-Pittsburgh Pirates No. 30 jersey with the name of her boyfriend, Paul Skenes, on the back.
