Naba Alsaha and Strataphy Partner to Launch One of Saudi Arabia's First Geothermal-Cooled Hospitals

In a pioneering step for sustainable healthcare infrastructure, Naba Alsaha Hospital, a leading Saudi healthcare group, has partnered with clean cooling innovator Strataphy to deploy advanced, subsurface-powered cooling systems for its new hospital complex in Riyadh, currently under construction. 'This project highlights how geothermal technology can meet the strict reliability and operational demands of the healthcare sector,' said Ahmed Alhani, COO of Strataphy. 'Hospitals require uninterrupted cooling performance around the clock. With our CAS model and subsurface technology, we're able to deliver that performance while significantly reducing grid impact and carbon emissions.' Saudi Arabia has more than 2,300 healthcare facilities across the Kingdom. With each facility requiring on average 1.5 megawatts-thermal (MW-th) of cooling capacity, the national healthcare sector represents a total thermal demand of approximately 3.45 gigawatts-thermal (GW-th). This places immense strain on the power grid and creates a clear opportunity for cleaner, more efficient solutions. At the heart of the system is Strataphy's PrimeLoop—a patent-pending geothermal hybrid architecture that uses subsurface temperatures to deliver continuous and efficient building cooling. Unlike traditional HVAC systems, which rely on electricity-intensive compressors and degrade in performance during high ambient temperatures, PrimeLoop operates silently and consistently, delivering a Coefficient of Performance (COP) over 5, more than double that of conventional methods. The solution is offered through Strataphy's Cooling as a Service (CAS) model—turning cooling from a costly CapEx decision into a monthly operating service. Strataphy handles design, drilling, installation, and long-term operations and maintenance, with clients only paying for actual cooling used. This removes technical and financial risk while improving ESG outcomes. 'As demand for high-performance medical infrastructure grows, we're proud to be among the first hospitals in the Kingdom to adopt this innovative, sustainable approach,' said Nayef Al-Jishi, Business Development Manager at Naba Alsaha Hospital. 'For us, it's about delivering long-term value to patients, operators, and the national grid. This partnership with Strataphy reinforces our commitment to future-ready, resilient, and environmentally aligned healthcare facilities.' 'This collaboration reflects a broader transformation underway across the Kingdom,' concluded Ammar Alali, CEO of Strataphy. 'The healthcare sector—with its 24/7 operational needs—is ideally suited to lead the geothermal cooling transition. We're proud to help power that shift and demonstrate how clean infrastructure can meet both performance and sustainability goals.'

Standard Chartered: Weak Dollar to Unlock Opportunities in Emerging Markets and Global Equities

Standard Chartered announced its Global Market Outlook for the second half of 2025, projecting a constructive but volatile environment for investors worldwide. The Bank sees significant implications for Middle East investors, driven by expectations of a softer US dollar, resilient global equity markets and improving prospects for emerging-market assets. The report highlights that Global macro conditions remain mixed. In the United States, growth continues to be supported by resilient consumption and fiscal stimulus, though trade and policy uncertainty may temper momentum in the second half of the year. In Europe, fiscal easing increasingly offers support, but structural challenges persist while China's outlook is stabilising on the back of targeted stimulus and improving retail activity. Meanwhile, growth in India and ASEAN is expected to remain well-supported. Against this backdrop, the report outlines an investment strategy reflecting evolving risks and opportunities. We expect the US dollar to weaken over the next 6 to 12 months and have accordingly upgraded Asia (ex-Japan) equities and Emerging Market (EM) local-currency bonds to Overweight. Global equities also remain an Overweight position across portfolios, supported by healthy earnings, easing trade tensions, and controlled inflation (so far). Commenting on the report, Dr. Boutros Klink, CEO, Standard Chartered Bahrain, said: 'As global markets transition into a new phase, investors in Bahrain and the wider Middle East are well-positioned to capitalise on emerging opportunities. A weaker dollar historically supports returns across risk assets, particularly in emerging markets, which have long been core components of regional portfolios.' He added: 'This outlook underscores a critical moment for investors in the region. As the global environment adjusts to weak dollar dynamics, shifting trade policies, and diverging central bank actions, investors in our region have an opportunity to reposition portfolios with greater international diversification. Asset classes such as emerging market bonds and equities across major regions (including non-US equities) are well-placed to help investors navigate volatility, capture income, and enhance portfolio resilience in today's shifting landscape.' In line with these themes, the report maintains a preference for USD-denominated bonds in the 5–7-year maturity range, citing them as the most attractive in terms of risk-adjusted returns, particularly as yields begin to ease from current levels. Meanwhile, Developed Market Investment Grade corporate bonds have been downgraded to Underweight due to tight yield premiums and slower inflows. Alternative investments are also in focus, with the Bank highlighting gold as a core allocation, supported by strong central bank demand and its role as a diversifier when bonds offer less downside protection.

The National Bank of Bahrain (NBB) has officially inaugurated its new revamped Data Centre, marking a significant step in strengthening the Bank's digital footprint. Following the completion of an extensive migration process, NBB has become the first and the only bank in the Kingdom that has designed, built, and is operating its own Uptime Institute Tier 3 certified Data Centre, a unique distinction that reflects the highest international standards of operational reliability and infrastructure quality. NBB has successfully completed an 18-month strategic infrastructure transformation, with the support of the Central Bank of Bahrain. This initiative, marked by the modernisation of legacy systems and over eight phased migration activities, exemplified best-in-class risk management and execution. The seamless transition of the Bank's digital ecosystem has resulted in a Tier 3 certified facility, meeting the highest international standards for security, sustainability, and operational excellence. Commenting on the occasion, Usman Ahmed, Group Chief Executive Officer of NBB said, 'The new Data Centre represents NBB's continued investment in infrastructure that delivers longterm resilience. It strengthens the Bank's operational backbone while advancing its ESG goals by embedding energy optimised technology directly into its core infrastructure. Delivering a transformation of this scale required synchronised execution from teams working across multiple phases to ensure a smooth transition. Every aspect of this major project was guided by a commitment to providing a frictionless and stable experience for customers. We are incredibly proud of what the NBB team and its partners have built together.' With a steadfast focus on digital innovation and operational excellence, NBB continues to reinforce its role as a key player in enhancing service delivery standards within Bahrain's banking sector.
