'Shark in the pond!' Rhode Island boaters experience incredible 'Jaws' moment
A customer at a Rhode Island restaurant this week captured an extraordinary scene on video as a giant shark surfaced behind boaters in Great Salt Pond.
In the footage, as the shark's fins slice through the water, a woman exclaims, 'There's a shark in the pond!'
As noted by the Atlantic Shark Institute, the sighting was 'reminiscent of a scene from 'Jaws' on the 50th anniversary of the film.'
It's clear that this was a massive shark, but the ASI was quick to correct false theories in explaining that it was a harmless basking shark, not a potentially dangerous great white.
The ASI explained in a separate post: 'Here is the culprit that got almost 14 million views, thousands of comments, and was thought to be about 10 different species of shark for its unique and eye catching visit to a pond in Block Island, RI this week!
'The species, which many guessed accurately, was a basking shark, the second largest fish in the world.'
The basking shark was estimated to measure about 20 feet.
The footage was captured by Jen Seebeck from Dead Eye Dick's restaurant.

Cobra Baffler combo irons blend five designs to help beginners and high-handicappers

To mark its 50th anniversary, Cobra's Baffler returns as a combo set built to make golf easier for beginners, seniors and higher-handicap players. Gear: Cobra Baffler combo irons Price: $799 (steel), $899 (graphite); Women's set: $899 (graphite) Specs: Progressive set comprised of five unique constructions, including traditional hybrids, hybrid-irons, hollow irons, cavity back irons and wedges with progressive railed sole design. Available: Aug. 26 (in stores) Who it's for: Mid- to high-handicap golfers, seniors, slower-swinging players seeking forgiveness, consistency and easy launch throughout the set. What you should know: To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the original Baffler, Cobra has created a combo set that blends technologies from several of its past and current models to make it easier to play from any lie. The deep dive: When the original Cobra Baffler arrived in 1975, as Jaws ruled at the box office and disco was filling dance floors, it was an unconventional idea that stuck. The club's distinctive rails, designed by founder Tom Crow, helped it glide through rough and sandy lies instead of digging in, making it one of the earliest irons to tackle turf interaction head-on. Fifty years later, as Lilo and Stitch continue packing them in at the box office and Taylor Swift prepares to drop a new album on Spotify, that same spirit drives the newest Baffler irons, and the set might be the most ambitious in Cobra's long history. The Baffler combo set is built to make golf less punishing for players who struggle to make consistent contact or generate clubhead speed. By mixing five different types of club heads in one set, it also addresses the fact that a single construction style often can't meet the needs of every shot a higher-handicap golfer faces. The set comes standard with: The progressive Baffler Rail system plays a role, too. Steeper rails in the hybrids and long irons help the club slide through thicker grass or firm turf instead of grabbing and twisting, which can make a big difference for players who don't always strike the ball cleanly. Shallower rails in the short irons allow for cleaner turf contact on approach shots, but there are no rails in the wedges to allow golfers to have more versatility on chips, pitches and bunker shots. Is the Baffler Combo set for everyone? Absolutely not, but Cobra already offers the King Tour for elite golfers, the King Forged TEC for golfers who want a better-player's distance iron, and the DS-Adapt for players who need a game-improvement iron. The Baffler Combo set showcases how Cobra can also offer a functional, easy-to-hit set of clubs for golfers who have more enthusiasm than they have skill.

Dog Meets Dolphins at Aquarium—Their Face-to-Face Reaction Says It All

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. In a viral TikTok video, a Chihuahua and a dolphin meet each other at the aquarium, and internet users can't cope with both of their reactions. The clip, shared in June under the username @poocheespage, shows the pup, Poo Chee, and the dolphin at the aquarium, shortly investigating each other before realizing what they have just seen. As the dolphin gets closer to the glass, the Chihuahua lets out a bark that startles the dolphin, who then starts mimicking the dog's mouth movements in a sort of chasing game across species. "Poo Chee and Izzy the dolphin face to face both not so happy," the poster writes in the caption, as the Jaws theme song plays in the background of the post. Dogs are known for being among the smartest creatures in the animal kingdom, but so are dolphins, in their own different ways. The Whale and Dolphin Conservation says that dolphins demonstrate the ability to learn and apply knowledge, to understand new or challenging situations, and the ability to think abstractly. These creatures are also notoriously talented mimics, as can be observed from the clip, and quick learners. They demonstrate self-awareness, problem-solving, and empathy, innovation, and teaching skills, as well as grief, joy and playfulness. Moreover, just like humans, dolphins use distinct names for one another, and whistles that they use to identify and call each other. No other creature, besides humans, is believed to address each other using names. Dolphins also display remarkable skills such as cooperation, and social learning in how they hunt. In Australia, bottle-nose dolphins use tools like sea sponges to uncover hidden fish and conch shells to trap prey. These tools protect them while foraging and help them catch food more effectively. These innovative techniques are not instinctive—they are learned behaviors passed from one dolphin to another within their social groups. The video quickly went viral on social media and has so far received over 637,000 views and almost 115,000 likes on the platform. One user, Rodney, wrote in the comments: "The way that dolphin is probably imagining what it's like to slap him around, and not in a playful way." Dondada posted: "The Dolphin is barking back!" WhyNot83 added: "Water puppy and land puppy." Newsweek reached out to @poocheespage for comment via TikTok comments. We could not verify the details of the case.
