Paula Martin Sampedro fires Sunday 68 to win low amateur honors at Women's British Open
The Spaniard, who played alongside two-time Smyth Salver winner Lydia Ko, closed with a 4-under 68 to zoom up the board and currently holds a share of eighth at 4 under. Her 30 on the inward nine is the lowest of the week by two strokes.
"Honestly, even in the front nine the couple the bogeys she made, she got some really nasty lip-outs," said Ko.
"At that point if a couple of those dropped it would've been an unbelievable round. Was still an unbelievable round, and it was fun to play alongside her today."
Martin Sampedro wraps up the coveted Smyth Salver for low amateur honors as Carla Bernat struggled with a 78 on Sunday to finish at 9 over for the championship, while Jeneath Wong shot 82 to finish at 17 over.
Martin Sampedro becomes the fourth Spanish player to win the award, joining Marta Figueras-Dotti (1982), Elisa Serramia (2003) and Luna Sobron (2015). Her coach and caddie for the week, Alejandro Larrazabal, won the British Amateur at Royal Porthcawl in 2002.
"My first three, four holes were really rough," said Martin Sampedro. "There was no way I was getting two on 1, it's a par 4. Then the first four holes, with perfect conditions are already so hard, so I knew it was going to be a tough beginning.
"And then just managed to keep calm and just hole a couple putts, and then I started to see the lines better ... it was definitely a good birdie stretch on the back nine."
The list of recent Smyth Salver winners is packed with stars.
The award, given to the low amateur at the AIG Women's British Open, has served as a strong indicator of future success, with names like Danielle Kang, Georgia Hall, Leona Maguire, Jeeno Thitikul, Ko, and most recently, Lottie Woad, receiving the honor.
It's been a massive summer for Martin Sampedro, who won both the British Women's Amateur and European Ladies' Amateur Championship in Germany. The British Amateur victory exempts her into next year's championship. Martin Sampedro currently ranks third in the World Amateur Golf Ranking.

Several players fail to train at Manchester City's live training session

Nico O'Reilly also didn't take part in Manchester City's open training session. Simon Bajkowski has reported for Manchester Evening News that O'Reilly wasn't deemed fit enough to train with his teammates. There was a positive vibe amongst the Manchester City squad at the Joie Stadium. Watching Pep Guardiola's squad train there was a good vibe amongst the Manchester City squad. There was also a crispness to City's work which bodes well for the 25/26 season. Although it is hard to gauge how far along in their preparations the Manchester City squad are currently. But there was a good vibe to City training in front of a packed Joie Stadium. It was no surprise to see Kalvin Phillips and Mateo Kovacic fail to train today. Both players are continuing their rehabilitation from injury. Vitor Reis looks poised to complete a loan move to Girona in the coming days so his absence is understandable. It is hoped that Nico O'Reilly's fitness issue isn't serious ahead of Manchester City's upcoming friendly against Palermo this weekend.

Forest confirm new front-of-shirt sponsor
Nottingham Forest have announced Bally's Corporation, an American gambling, betting and interactive entertainment company, as the new front-of-shirt sponsor for the 2025-26 season. It comes despite Premier League clubs collectively agreeing in 2023 to withdraw gambling sponsorship from the front of their matchday shirts by the end of the 2025-26 season. Clubs have been allowed to secure new shirt-front deals before the deadline and will still be able to continue featuring gambling brands in areas such as shirt sleeves and LED advertising afterwards. Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis said: "We are on a special journey - we are determined to keep achieving incredible things and strengthening our global partnerships is an important part of this. "As our club continues to thrive both on and off the pitch, we're looking forward to working with Bally's on a number of exciting initiatives, helping us to engage with our growing fanbase within Nottinghamshire and around the world." Home shirts with the new sponsor will be worn for the first time in Tuesday's friendly against Serie A side Fiorentina at the City Ground. In the 2024-25 campaign, 11 top-flight teams had a gambling sponsor on the front of their shirts, an increase of three from the previous campaign. The ban from next season follows a consultation between the league, its clubs and the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) as part of the government's ongoing review of current gambling legislation.
