Scenes in and around Anfield as Liverpool fans finally celebrate a title
Soccer Covid-19 prevented the club fully celebrating first EPL title in 2020, but on Sunday the city was painted red

Liverpool fans hold up a banner that reads 'Champions', while standing on top of a merchandise stand and wave smoke flares outside Anfield as they celebrate the team's victory against Tottenham Hotspur to clinch the 2024-25 Premier League title on Sunday.
Image:Five years after Covid-19 restrictions prevented Liverpool fans from celebrating at Anfield their team's first top flight title triumph in 30 years, Reds faithful wasted little time on Sunday getting the party started on another Premier League success.
With Anfield filled to the brim, Liverpool equalled Manchester United's record of 20 English top-flight titles with their 5-1 thrashing of Tottenham Hotspur.
But it was after Alexis Mac Allister struck a blistering shot to put the Reds ahead for good in the 24th minute that the delirious crowd at the sun-drenched stadium erupted and they did not stop singing until well after the final whistle sounded.
'To win the Premier League here with the fans is special, it's an incredible feeling,' said Liverpool talisman Mohamed Salah. 'This is way better than five years ago, without a shadow of a doubt. To do it again after five years is something special.'
Kenny Dalglish, who managed Liverpool's victorious 1990 team, was among those celebrating with the Anfield crowd on Sunday.
They broke into chants of 'Champions!' at numerous times during the second half, during which the match was stopped so a deflated Premier League trophy balloon could be removed from the pitch.
Liverpool players and staff on the touchline dashed onto the pitch the second the final whistle sounded then danced wildly to 'One Kiss is All it Takes.'
They lined up arm-in-arm in front of the Kop, team captain Virgil van Dijk with the game ball tucked under one arm, for a stirring rendition of 'You'll Never Walk Alone' as stadium staff choked back tears.
'I was desperate for them [the fans to be here] of course, for all the fans around the world, for the fans here, but for us as well,' said Van Dijk, who was a part of the 2020 squad.
Left-back Andrew Robertson, another member of that title winning squad, said it was a surreal experience to finally be able to celebrate with the fans.
'The last time we won it was a stranger time, but I suppose we kind of got that feeling against Manchester United at home. It was pretty much done at that point ... It's not like quite clinching it and then obviously the world paused,' he said.
'We enjoyed it, of course we did, but you can't beat what we experienced today and how we went to the ground and the fans during and after the game. Nothing quite compares to that and I'm glad we got to experience it that way as well.'

Liverpool clinched the 2020 title under Juergen Klopp, 30 year's after the Reds' previous top-flight title in 1990, but many said the title should come with an asterisk since no fans were permitted in the stadium when Liverpool lifted the trophy.
"[The fans being here] is what makes it special,' Liverpool boss Arne Slot said.
"[Five] years ago they won the league. It was an amazing accomplishment. But the fans weren't there. So you can feel how important it was for them to be here. And the boys did an outstanding job today — including our fans.'

In his final game at Anfield, Klopp had encouraged the Anfield crowd to embrace Slot as their incoming manager by leading them in a singalong of the Dutchman's name. Slot repaid the compliment on Sunday as he took the microphone to sing 'Juergen Klopp! Na-na-na-na-na!'
Thousands of fans not fortunate to be inside Anfield on Sunday celebrated outside, setting off flares before the game ended in a party that was sure to go well into the night.

Kaizer Chiefs pull off major coup as Agent weighs in
Kaizer Chiefs have secured the signature of UK-based midfielder Ethan Chislett, who rejected interest from European clubs to make a bold return to South African football. The 26-year-old playmaker, who recently parted ways with English League Two side Port Vale FC, has signed a two-year deal with Amakhosi, with an option to extend. After leaving Port Vale, Chislett attracted strong interest from Scottish Premiership side Motherwell and EFL League One outfit Wigan Athletic. But the Durban-born talent turned them down in favour of a move to Naturena. This decision marks a significant shift in the career of a player who has steadily climbed the ranks of European football. 'When I look at South African football, I see players standing on the ball. You don't see this in the Premier League. I think that's what I need to unlock within myself, because I've got that in me. I love scoring goals. Like literally love nothing more in the world,' said Chislett. Born in Durban and raised in South Africa until the age of four, Chislett joined Southampton's academy as a youth before moving to Spain, where he played for Reus FCR in the fourth tier. In 2020, he joined AFC Wimbledon and went on to make 123 appearances, scoring 16 goals and assisting 8 more. At Port Vale, he featured in 25 matches last season, netting four times and providing three assists as he helped the club gain promotion to League One. Chislett brings a creative spark to a Kaizer Chiefs midfield that has struggled to convert chances. His timing of runs, vision between the lines, and ability to press off the ball align well with Nasreddine Nabi's tactical approach. The midfielder will compete with Gaston Sirino and Mduduzi Shabalala for the number 10 role, an area where Nabi expects goals and assists. 'I love scoring goals. Like literally love nothing more in the world,' Chislett emphasised, highlighting his desire to make a decisive impact. Chislett's agent, Mike Makaab, played his cards close to his chest when approached for comment. 'I can't (comment) because we are still working on a number of options,' Makaab told SoccerBeat . However, insiders confirm that the move is essentially sealed. With Chislett free to officially join after 30 June 2025, when his Port Vale contract expires. 'It's in our bones': Orlando Pirates unveil 2025/26 season kits!
Orlando Pirates are now officially pre-season ready after unveiling their new home and away kits for next season. Pirates will wear their tradition colours next season, with a black home kit and return to a white away jersey. This represents the first time the white jersey returns since the 2022/23 season, the first under former coach Jose Riveiro. In the previous two seasons, although they kept the season traditional black, they experiment with the away colours. In the 2023/24 season they went light green while last season was a shade of blue. The Pirates purist will now be happy with a move back to their traditions. Pirates took to their various social media platforms on Tuesday morning to unveil the two jersey's. They did so under the slogan 'It's in our bones' a clear reference to their skull and bones logo. As per the club's post on their official 'X' account, the new kit will be available in stores in exactly a months time. Take a look at them below! They're, however, set to begin their pre-season on the 7th of July and jet off to Spain again for their preparations. It will be interesting to see if they wear their new strip there or opt to wear an older strip like their first trip. Pirates confirmed fixtures against English side Bolton Wanderers and Pafos FC of Cyprus. They will then also take on familiar opposition in Granada FC and UD Las Palmas FC. Their first game will be played against Bolton, a historic English side that has slipped down the divisions over time. This game represents a pattern after another lower league English side in Plymouth was included last season. Pirates will then play Cyprus champions Pafos just two days later. They will then finish off their tour with two Spanish sides in Las Palmas on the 17th of July as well as Granada just two days later. Those games in Spain will also represent new coach Abdeslam Ouaddou with his first chance of coaching Pirates. Buccaneers what do you make of the new kits? Are they a hit or are they a miss?
