Hint of Mini Labubu Launch Sends Pop Mart Stock Soaring 12%
The Chinese retailer Pop Mart's stock surged more than 12 percent on Wednesday, to the highest level since the company went public in 2020, after its chief executive, Wang Ning, said a mini version of its wildly popular Labubu dolls would be released as soon as this week. The toothy elves have become coveted accessories around the world, spotted dangling off designer handbags worth thousands of dollars and collected by the likes of Rihanna, Dua Lipa and Lisa, a member of the K-pop group Blackpink. The mini version will be able to be hung on mobile phones, Mr. Wang told investors on an earnings call. Previous new releases have sold out within minutes, crashed the company's website and app, and sparked hourslong lines outside of stores. Most of Pop Mart's revenue comes from China. But during the first six months of this year, revenue from the Americas jumped 1,142 percent from the previous year as Labubu enthusiasm took off around the world, the company reported on Tuesday. Sales in Asia outside of China were up 258 percent and from Europe and other regions, 729 percent. Source: FactSet By The New York Times The global craze for Labubus drove record revenue for Pop Mart during the first six months of the year, up more than 200 percent when measured in Chinese renminbi. Labubus accounted for more than a third of Pop Mart's total revenue over this period. Pop Mart's stock, which is traded in Hong Kong, has risen more than 650 percent over the past year. In China, the dolls have been praised as an example of how a local product can go viral worldwide. People's Daily, the official mouthpiece of the Chinese Communist Party, described the phenomenon as 'a benchmark for China's pop culture making inroads overseas.' Onstage in London over the weekend, Lisa, who told Vanity Fair that Pop Mart toys were her 'secret obsession,' wore a custom hot pink Labubu during Blackpink's Deadline Tour. The doll's popularity has spawned a thriving resale market and a universe of knock offs, known as 'Lafufus,' that are almost as sought after as the real things. Consumer protection agencies in the United States and Britain recently issued urgent safety warnings that said the fakes could break into pieces and presented choking hazards to children. Pop Mart has also popularized another Chinese trend by releasing some Labubus in 'blind boxes,' so that buyers don't know which doll is inside. The company said it plans to open about three new stores per week for the rest of the year, and expects to top 60 stores in the United States.

Warriors' Stephen Curry poses with epic ‘Night Night' drone show in China
The post Warriors' Stephen Curry poses with epic 'Night Night' drone show in China appeared first on ClutchPoints. Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry is making the most of the offseason by kicking off The Curry Brand World Tour's first event outside the United States. Much like the US-based Curry Camps, a selection of the best talents from the region will take part in the three-day training camp. To kick things off, Curry's arrival in Chongqing was met with a 'Night Night' drone show that lit up the city skyline. In a carousel of pictures and videos, Curry documented his first day in the city. It included a picture of himself posing with the drone show in the background, along with a clip featuring a beaming Curry watching on. 'Chongqing meets Curry,' read the drone. 'Chongqing, you showed out. 🔥Day 1 of the Curry Brand China Tour was packed with Curry Camp, Curry Con, and so many moments in between. The fans brought incredible energy from the jump, and getting to connect with city executives gave us a deeper look at what makes this place so special,' Stephen Curry wrote on Instagram. The rest of the carousel featured clips from the other events the player was part of. The likes of Azzi Fudd, Seth Curry, and Zhu Zheng, the first Chinese athlete signed to Under Armour's Curry Brand, also featured in the clips. Per NBC, the veteran was full of praise for the drone show. 'That [show] was crazy, probably my favorite thing right now. We have our camp and 'CurryCon' going on across the city, which is pretty awesome. But I just appreciate the fans and the love and energy that's here; you can hear all the people down, just celebrating and enjoying being a part of my journey with me,' he said. The event and the love he has received is testament to the influence Stephen Curry has garnered over an illustrious career, which will soon enter its 17th year in the NBA. Black Myth: Zhong Kui is the next title from Game Science Studio
Game Science Studio isn't resting on its laurels after the success of Black Myth: Wukong. The developer teased a follow-up project as the closer to Gamescom's Opening Night Live showcase with a brief but beautifully detailed glimpse at Black Myth: Zhong Kui. There's no date attached to the cinematic teaser, and that's because the game is still very much a work in progress. According to the FAQ entry about a possible release window, the team says "Well, to be honest—even Yocar himself has absolutely no idea" when it'll be ready. But the same page does confirm that the plan is for Zhong Kui to launch on both PC and "all mainstream console platforms" whenever it is done. From the title and the previous Black Myth game, this new project will once again be drawing inspiration from Chinese mythology. Legends around Zhong Kui dub him a conqueror of ghosts and evil spirits, so perhaps there will be some supernatural vibes in this entry to the emerging game series. Pretty much the only other thing we know besides the name and character is that Black Myth: Zhong Kui will once again be a single-player ARPG and it will be "following the same business model as before."
