Murder charge filed after fatal shooting at Ichiban in Pittsfield Township

CBS Newsa day ago
A man has been arrested in last week's fatal shooting in Washtenaw County, Michigan, the Pittsfield Township Police Department said.
The investigation was over the death of Deryl Timothy Banks, 35, of Romulus, after a shooting Wednesday at Ichiban Restaurant on Washtenaw Avenue in Pittsfield Township. Banks drove himself to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. Police said he later died as a result of his injuries.
The Pittsfield Township Police Department said Marvin Ramirez Sullivan, 33, of Ypsilanti Township, was taken into custody Thursday and lodged at the Washtenaw County Jail. The Washtenaw County Prosecutor's office authorized charges of open murder, felony firearm and carrying a concealed weapon.
Sullivan was arraigned on Saturday. He was denied bond.
Police say the investigation so far "indicates that this shooting was the result of a verbal dispute between the victim and two suspects."
The investigation continues. Police ask that anyone with information contact the Pittsfield Township detective bureau at 734-822-4958, the front desk at 734-822-4911 (Front Desk) or Metro Dispatch at 734-994-2911, ext. 8.

College Student Returns Home After a Month and Finds 2 Naked Strangers Living in His Apartment: Report

Attorneys suggested the apartment did not breach their contract with the Pennsylvania college student A Pittsburgh college student says he returned home after a month away to allegedly find two naked people in his apartment. Maverick Crupi, who attends the University of Pittsburgh, said he came across the two individuals upon returning to his unit at the SkyVue Apartments in June, according to CBS affiliate KDKA. Crupi said he quickly realized that many of his personal belongings were missing, and saw new pots and pans in the kitchen. Soon after, he ran into the first naked individual. "This lady, she's probably like 35, 40 [years old], just naked, walks out, looks at me and starts screaming," he recalled. ADVERTISEMENT Crupi claimed his former roommate had sublet his room, the outlet reported. But the college student said he was given no notice that this was taking place. There is a clause in the contract Crupi signed for the apartment that stated subletting "is allowed only when we expressly consent in writing.' It also said, "the remaining resident and replacement residents must sign an entirely new lease contract.' However, the outlet reported that Crupi signed what is known as a 'by-the-bed' lease and was only renting his room in the unit. According to KDKA, attorneys said SkyVue did not breach the contract. One of those attorneys, Daniel Stoner, said the subletting clause would have gone into effect if Crupi and his former roommate had signed a joint lease agreement. SkyVue did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment. ADVERTISEMENT Now, Crupi is warning others to 'look at your contract' and 'look at the laws that are in the city' when it comes to leasing. 'Try to see if you're getting what you're entitled to,' he said. 'At the end of the day, the bare minimum, hopefully, at least you're getting that, and people are following their contract.' Richard Tillman, the brother of late NFL player and Army hero Pat Tillman who crashed into a San Jose post office on Sunday morning, has been dealing with "severe mental issues for years," his family says. Kevin Tillman, the brother of Pat and Richard, said that Richard was "livestreaming what, I'll call, his altered self on social media," which occurred during the crash. Richard told police at the scene of the crash, which set the post office ablaze after the car caught on fire, that he was live-streaming it. Richard also told officers he was Pat Tillman's brother at the scene. "First and foremost, we are relieved that no one was physically harmed. "We have limited information at this time, but we are in communication with local authorities and are providing as much background and context as we can. FORMER TEXAS A&M FOOTBALL STAR BRIAN WILLIAMS DIES AFTER COMPETING IN HALF-MARATHON: 'PUREST IN HEART' "To be clear, it's not secret that Richard has been battling severe mental health issues for many years. He has been livestreaming, what I'll call, his altered self on social media for anyone to witness. Unfortunately, securing the proper care and support for him has proven incredibly difficult – or rather, impossible. As a result, none of this is as shocking as it should be. We have nothing further to add at this time." Richard was arrested and booked on suspicion of arson, and is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, per Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office's online records. The 44-year-old crashed into the post office located in a strip mall around 3 a.m. early Sunday morning. It took about 50 firefighters an hour and a half to put out the flames, per NBC Bay Area. Pat was an NFL star for the Arizona Cardinals who famously left his career in football to enlist in the United States Army in May 2002. The decision came after the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks. Tillman served in Iraq and Afghanistan as an Army Ranger, making several combat tours before being killed in the Afghanistan mountains.
