YSRCP slams free bus scheme as ‘fraud on women'
The coalition government's so-called free bus travel scheme is nothing more than a ''blatant scam designed to deceive women'', alleged YSRCP State official spokesperson Putha Siva Shankar Reddy.
At a press meet at the party's central office at Tadepalli near here on Monday, he accused the government of imposing ''conditions that run counter to the pre-poll promises made by Chandrababu Naidu, Pawan Kalyan, and Nara Lokesh who had assured women of seamless, cost-free journeys across Andhra Pradesh, including to pilgrimage destinations''.
Mr. Reddy said the scheme covers only five bus categories — Palle Velugu, Ultra Palle Velugu, City Ordinary, Express, and Metro Express — while excluding non-stop, inter-State services, Saptagiri Express, Ultra Deluxe, Super Luxury, Star Liner, and all AC buses.
'With such limitations, how can women visit Tirumala without multiple bus changes and days of travel?' he asked, adding that the plan is impractical for long-distance and inter-district journeys.
Despite having 15 months to prepare, the scheme falls short of successful models in Karnataka and Telangana, Reddy said, calling it evidence of the government's incompetence and intent to 'cheat women rather than empower them.'
He challenged Transport Minister Ramprasad Reddy to explain 'how many bus changes and days it would take to travel from Srikakulam to Tirupati under these rules.'
He criticised the government for ''targeting the Sakshi media group for exposing'', what he called, 'this fraud.'
Mr. Reddy urged women to recognise the betrayal, warning that 'true welfare means unrestricted access, not hollow promises crafted to fail.'

No action in Pulivendula cases till August 13: Andhra Pradesh HC
VIJAYAWADA: The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Monday directed police not to take any hasty action until August 13 against all accused in two cases involving YSRCP leaders in Pulivendula, amid ongoing ZPTC byelections. Justice Venkata Jyothirmai Pratapa issued interim orders, adjourning the hearing to August 13, and directing notices to complainants. In the first case, police registered charges against YSRCP MP YS Avinash Reddy, State general secretary Satish Kumar Reddy, and others for allegedly conducting an unauthorised rally from the YSRCP office to the police station, based on a complaint by MPDO Krishnamurthy. YSRCP leaders petitioned to quash the case. Advocate VR Reddy Kovvuri, representing the petitioners, urged halting further action due to the election context. Public Prosecutor M Lakshminarayana stated notices would be issued under BNSS Section 35(3). In a separate case, YSRCP leader Lingala Ramalinga Reddy, Hemadri, and about 50 others faced charges under the SC/ST Atrocities Act, and attempt to murder, following a complaint by TDP member Dhanunjaya alleging caste-based abuse and assault.

Polling underway for two ZPTC seats in Jagan's constituency, Kadapa MP in preventive custody
Kadapa MP Y. S. Avinash Reddy was taken into preventive custody by police in view of polling for the by-elections to Pulivendula and Ontimitta Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituencies (ZPTCs) in YSR Kadapa district on Tuesday. Polling in both constituencies began at 7 a.m. amid tight security. The process will end at 5 p.m. Eleven candidates each are in fray in the two segments in Pulivendula Assembly constituency, the home turf of former Chief Minister and YSR Congress Party president Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. A total of 10,600 voters are eligible to vote at 15 polling centres in Pulivendula ZPTC, while there are 24,000 voters in Ontimitta ZPTC. YSRCP leader and Kadapa MP Y. S. Avinash Reddy was arrested at his residence in Kadapa. He initiated a protest after a large number of police officers were deployed outside his residence. The police dispersed YSRCP workers and took the MP into custody. Avinash Reddy is the cousin of Jagan Mohan Reddy. Police also placed under house arrest YSRCP state secretary Satish Reddy in Vempally and TDP MLC Ramgopal Reddy in Pulivendula. The State Election Commission (SEC) has made elaborate arrangements for the peaceful and smooth conduct of the polling. The police have made tight security arrangements to prevent any untoward incidents. Police checkposts have been set on the borders between the two ZPTCs and also on the district borders. Deputy Inspector General (Kurnool range) Koya Praveen was supervising the security arrangements. Though these are only by-elections for two seats in the local body, they have attracted the attention of all due to the high stakes involved. The by-elections are a battle of prestige for both the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the opposition YSRCP. While Jagan is going all out to maintain his grip on Pulivendula, the TDP is looking to make further inroads into the YS family's bastion. The TDP-led NDA alliance had won seven out of 10 Assembly seats in Jagan's home district, Kadapa, last year. Pulivendula Assembly seat has been the pocket borough of the YSR family for nearly five decades. The family has never lost an election here since 1978, when Jagan's father and former Chief Minister Y. Rajasekhara Reddy (YSR) scored his first victory. The bypoll for Pulivendula ZPTC was necessitated after the death of YSRCP leader T. Maheshwar Reddy. While YSRCP has fielded his son Hemanth Reddy, TDP's candidate is Latha Reddy, wife of former MLC and the ruling party's Pulivendula constituency in-charge, Mareddy Ravindra Reddy (B Tech Ravi). Ontimitta is also going to a ZPTC by-poll as its member, YSRCP leader Akepati Amarnath Reddy, resigned after winning the Rajampet Assembly election last year. In Ontimitta, TDP's Muddu Krishna Reddy contests against YSRCP's Iragamreddy Subbareddy. The YSRCP on Monday sought immediate intervention by the State Election Commission to ensure free and fair polls. A delegation of YSRCP leaders met the State Election Commission and sought steps to halt what they described as "unprecedented subversion of democracy". Earlier, Jagan Mohan Reddy accused Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu of conspiring to hijack the ZPTC by-election. The former Chief Minister alleged that, together with certain officials, TDP's anarchic gangs, and police officers, Chandrababu Naidu is conspiring to hijack the election.

Ex-MLA booked for breaching ‘No politics in Tirumala' rule
Tirumala: Tirumala police have registered a case against former YSRCP MLA and former CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's maternal uncle P Ravindranath Reddy for allegedly making political statements in Tirumala, in violation of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) board's resolution banning political speeches in the hill shrine. Reddy had visited the Lord Venkateswara temple on Sunday for darshan and later addressed the media outside the shrine. During the interaction, he reportedly criticised the ruling coalition and spoke about political developments in Kadapa district, including the Pulivendula ZPTC by-election. The TTD board, in a recent decision, prohibited political speeches and allegations within Tirumala to protect the sanctity of the temple. This ban applies to all public representatives and visitors alike. Following a written complaint from Vigilance Inspector V Damodar, Tirumala One Town police registered Crime No 47/2025 under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act. Police said they are reviewing the footage of Reddy's remarks. Sources indicated that a notice could soon be served to the former MLA, asking him to explain why legal action should not proceed for breaching the 'no politics in Tirumala' rule.
