South Korean actress Jung Ga-eun – who began her career as a model and has acted in The Master's Sun (2013) – has faced some tough years.
Now 48, she's taken on a new job as a taxi driver to support herself and her daughter.
Jung recently passed South Korea's official taxi driver qualification exam, a journey she documented on her YouTube channel Wonder Ga-eun.
Feeling positive about the change of profession, she said: 'With hard work, you can earn around 10mil won (RM30,822.43) a month. These days, even major companies don't pay that much.'
Her decision comes after years of financial and emotional struggles, said entertainment portal allkpop.
Jung became a single mother in 2018 following a divorce from her businessman husband – who was later found to have defrauded investors of 13.2bil won (RM40.7mil) using her name.
He fled overseas and has not paid child support or contributed to their daughter's upbringing.
Jung herself reportedly lost over 100mil won (RM308,472.95) to his scam.
'After my last film, there was no work. I looked at my bank account and felt completely lost,' she said in a past interview.
'I used to be terrified of having no money, but now I just think, 'I'll live within my means.' Things are still uncertain, but raising my child has made me stronger.'
With acting jobs drying up, Jung decided to follow in the footsteps of her father, who drove a private taxi for over 30 years.
'He raised me with that job," she shared, adding that she wants her father – now battling esophageal cancer – to be her first passenger after passing the exam.
In preparation for the test, she met with transportation YouTuber Park Rae-ho at the exam centre. Though nervous, she was determined.
'I'm confident I'll pass. I want to score over 90,' she said with a smile. Jung ended up passing with 75 points.
'The test was difficult," she said but felt proud to have passed.

Sabah's very own hip-hop star Jaclyn Chia joins up with fellow East Malaysian singer Yunk G for new single 'Redam'

THE local music scene is rocking this year with many Malaysian legends returning to the limelight and the younger set coming out with unique styles and songs that are winning the hearts of the fans. And here comes another excellent single that is set to rock the local scene with the release of the latest duet single entitled "Redam", the result of a special collaboration between the rising Sabah singer and rapper, Jaclyn Chia, featuring Yunk G. The single "Redam" is an introspective ballad with acoustic and rap elements that takes listeners into the depths of emotion - about wounds, pain, and efforts to suppress unspoken feelings. "Redam" is also a sonic narrative about the inner turmoil of a person who is faced with loss and emotional trauma, but chooses to remain standing even though his heart has long been broken. And the song is also winning many fans and is well-followed on digital platforms, including on YouTube. "This song is very personal for me and also has some of my own experiences in life. It's like writing a letter to myself after going through hurt in life, but still trying to live on," said Jaclyn Chia about the inspiration behind this song. For the record, Jaclyn Chia has also sung a song with the contemporary Joget Moden tempo entitled "Joget Mengikut Rasa", composed by Shaifulhan and lyrics by Shahab, which was produced under Luncai Emas. The singer was also crowned the champion during the RTM Kemuncak Bintang Ai FM 2024 competition. The single "Redam" was also produced with the support of the Malaysian Ministry of Communications through the Creative Fund (Mycreative Ventures), a sign of support for the original work of local musicians. Composed by Shaiffulhan Saidin and lyrics written by D'Laila under the Zirbad Music Production banner, while Luncai Emas acts as a digital distributor. According to the composer, Shaifulhan said, "Jaclyn Chia's beautiful voice combined with Yunk G's solid rap forms a song that touches the soul and soothes wounds." Meanwhile, rapper Yunk G said he has high hopes of seeing the collaboration succeed in the coming weeks and said, "I believe music should speak the truth. In 'Redam', I want to bring the perspective of those who often hide their wounds for fear of being seen as weak." Yunk G, or real name AG Sri Iskandar Bahrin, is a rapper who has been doing well in recent years with singles in Sabah and Peninsular Malaysia. Among his top hits is the single 'Aku Shot', the original soundtrack for the movie "Adiwara". The music video ''Redam'', which had been released on Luncai Emas's YouTube channel, displays poetic visuals full of symbolism - depicting an individual's journey through the shadows of the past. The single can also be streamed on all digital platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube.

Ex-TVB star Felix Wong quits acting after wife's death, says he's unemployed now

Hong Kong star Felix Wong Yat-wah stepped away from acting following the passing of his wife, actress Leung Kit-wah, in 2020. Photos: China Press Hong Kong singer-actor Felix Wong Yat-wah was one of the city's biggest teen idols in the 1980s, earning the nickname 'Third Tiger' as part of TVB's Five Tiger Generals alongside Michael Miu, Kent Tong, Andy Lau and Tony Leung Chiu-wai. Over the years, the 63-year-old has starred in dramas such as Demi-Gods And Semi-Devils (1982), The Legend Of The Condor Heroes (1983), Looking Back In Anger (1989) and more. However, he stepped away from acting after the passing of his wife, actress Leung Kit-wah, who died of organ failure in 2020. She was 59. In a previous interview on actress Lee San-san's online programme, Wong described Leung as his 'No.1 fan' who often gave feedback on his performances. 'I only improved because of her sharp analytical skills. Now that she's gone and can no longer see me act, what's the point of continuing?' he said at that time. Recently, a netizen posted a video of Wong on Xiaohongshu, noting that the former TVB star has been unemployed for some time. His last listed work on IMDB is the 2023 short film A League Of Their Own . 'Mr Wong says he's unemployed, but he still has savings and is doing his best,' the netizen wrote in the caption. In the clip, Wong was seen signing autographs and asking a fan if they had opened their gift. It's reported that he still spends part of his savings to buy gifts for his supporters. These days, Wong spends much of his time with Hong Kong's Celebrity Football Team, often travelling to mainland China for matches. South Korean President Lee praises 'Kpop demon hunters' success, backs stronger Korean content industry

President Lee Jae Myung (right) speaks on "K-Pop: The Next Chapter," aired on English-language broadcaster Arirang TV, in this photo provided by the presidential office on Wednesday. - Photo: Yonhap SEOUL: (Bernama-Yonhap) South Korean President Lee Jae Myung has pledged to develop South Korea's cultural sector into one of the nation's core industries after meeting the creatives behind the hit Netflix animated film KPop Demon Hunters, Yonhap news agency reported. Lee appeared on Arirang TV's prerecorded programme K-Pop: The Next Chapter, aired Wednesday, where he sat down with Korean-Canadian co-creator Maggie Kang, members of TWICE Jihyo and Jeongyeon, DJ and music producer and music critic Kim Young-dae. "The opportunity to show the power of Korean culture is beginning in a full-fledged manner,' Lee said. "By building solid foundations, we will make (the cultural sector) a key industry.' He acknowledged concerns that the industry may appear vibrant on the surface but lack depth. "I agree with concerns that South Korea's cultural industry may appear glamorous on the surface but is void inside with its roots decaying. The government will build strong foundations, starting now,' he said. Lee stressed that politics should not interfere with culture, in an apparent reference to past blacklists excluding critical artists from state support. "It is the government's duty to create a free environment,' he said, warning that surveillance and regulation could harm the sector. The global success of KPop Demon Hunters, produced by Sony Pictures Animation and distributed by Netflix, has fuelled calls for greater support for Korean firms in developing original content and intellectual property rights. Lee noted that one of the film's standout characters was Derpy the tiger. "(The film) has transformed the tiger, one of the animals most feared by the Korean people, into something lovable and cute,' he said. - Bernama-Yonhap
