South Korean actress Jung Ga-eun – who began her career as a model and has acted in The Master's Sun (2013) – has faced some tough years.
Now 48, she's taken on a new job as a taxi driver to support herself and her daughter.
Jung recently passed South Korea's official taxi driver qualification exam, a journey she documented on her YouTube channel Wonder Ga-eun.
Feeling positive about the change of profession, she said: 'With hard work, you can earn around 10mil won (RM30,822.43) a month. These days, even major companies don't pay that much.'
Her decision comes after years of financial and emotional struggles, said entertainment portal allkpop.
Jung became a single mother in 2018 following a divorce from her businessman husband – who was later found to have defrauded investors of 13.2bil won (RM40.7mil) using her name.
He fled overseas and has not paid child support or contributed to their daughter's upbringing.
Jung herself reportedly lost over 100mil won (RM308,472.95) to his scam.
'After my last film, there was no work. I looked at my bank account and felt completely lost,' she said in a past interview.
'I used to be terrified of having no money, but now I just think, 'I'll live within my means.' Things are still uncertain, but raising my child has made me stronger.'
With acting jobs drying up, Jung decided to follow in the footsteps of her father, who drove a private taxi for over 30 years.
'He raised me with that job," she shared, adding that she wants her father – now battling esophageal cancer – to be her first passenger after passing the exam.
In preparation for the test, she met with transportation YouTuber Park Rae-ho at the exam centre. Though nervous, she was determined.
'I'm confident I'll pass. I want to score over 90,' she said with a smile. Jung ended up passing with 75 points.
'The test was difficult," she said but felt proud to have passed.

Tarzzan Of THEBLACKLABEL's New Co-Ed Group Accused Of Cultural Appropriation

When someone romanticises aspects of a particular race, it can sometimes lead to them adopting that race's appearance. While such behaviour often goes unnoticed, it tends to spark controversy, especially when public figures or idols are involved, raising debates around cultural appropriation. On 8th June (Sunday), South Korean entertainment agency THEBLACKLABEL (더블랙레이블) introduced their new co-ed group, 'ALLDAY Project.' However, one member, Tarzzan (타잔), quickly drew attention from netizens due to his Instagram posts, where he is frequently seen wearing braids and adopting aesthetics commonly associated with Black culture. The 'ALLDAY Project' consists of five members: Annie (앤니), Tarzzan (타잔), Bailey (베일리), Woochan (우찬), and Youngseo (영서). Some of the members already have notable recognition. Bailey, for instance, won the Arena Awards in 2019; Annie is known as the granddaughter of the chairman of the Samsung Group; Woochan was originally set to debut with the now-cancelled group Trainee A, and Youngseo was originally set to debut as a member of ILLIT (아일릿). Lee Chae-won (이채원), known by his stage name Tarzzan, began his career as a model, debuting at the 2022 Seoul Fashion Week. He previously worked under YG Entertainment's subsidiary YGKPLUS. He made his first appearance in the music industry through NJZ's (엔제이지) 'Supernatural' music video. Following the news of his debut, Tarzzan sparked debate with his appearance and stage name. Netizens are questioning why the soon-to-debut idol is allowed to maintain his cornrow hairstyle, arguing that it's cultural appropriation. Many also find his 'Tarzzan' stage name offensive, lamenting that it's a mockery towards African-Americans. What was meant to be a promising debut is now facing early backlash. Criticism and controversy have quickly taken over the conversation, and fans fear this might overshadow their official debut on 23rd June (Monday). Some also worry it could hurt the group's future in the long run. What are your thoughts on this? (Video) HK Actor Louis Koo Praises The Acting Skills Of Local Stars Tan Li Yang & Phei Yong

Over the weekend, the cast of the upcoming Hong Kong movie, 'Behind The Shadows (私家侦探)' dazzled fans at the Malaysia press tour. While in Kuala Lumpur, the stars met with reporters and shared some stories from the movie filming. The movie stars Hong Kong actors Louis Koo (古天樂) and Raymond Wong (黃浩然), as well as actress Chrissie Chau (周秀娜). The film is also significant for having several local talents in the cast, including media personality Phei Yong (培永) and actress Yumi Wong (黄诗棋). One of the questions asked during the press conference was about working with Malaysian talents. In response to the question, Louis has nothing but praise for them. The renowned actor specifically mentioned actor Tan Li Yang (陈立扬), who wasn't at the press tour due to work. Louis praised Tan Li Yang's performance, especially during emotional scenes, saying, 'He had a scene where he had to grieve for his girlfriend. His two takes were enough to move people, but he had high requirements for himself. When he wasn't satisfied with the first take, he asked for a re-do'. Louis said the actor's dedication was what earned his praise. Meanwhile, Phei Yong gave himself zero points for his acting, noting that he still needed to polish his skills. However, Louis contested, saying that Phei Yong has a bright future in acting. The 54-year-old even said, 'His acting isn't bad at all. Out of 100 points, I'd give him at least 60 points'. Castmate Raymond Wong also praised the Malaysian star, saying, 'He (Phei Yong) said he was nervous during filming, but I think his acting was very good'. The Hong Kong cast also spoke about filming in Malaysia. Unsurprising, the stars mentioned the food here, saying they loved the local cuisine. Chrissie also revealed that she had to restrain herself from eating so much as she had to be in shape for an upcoming project. However, she said she gave in because she couldn't resist chowing down on her favourite Malaysian dishes. We're glad the cast had so many fond memories from the filming. 'Behind The Shadows' will premiere nationwide on 12th June 2025 (Thursday). K-pop sensation BTS' new single 'On' surpasses 500 million streams on Spotify

South Korean boy band BTS arrives for the 64th Annual Grammy Awards at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. -- PHOTO: AFP SEOUL (Bernama-Yonhap): K-pop sensation BTS' song "ON" has surpassed 500 million streams on the global music platform Spotify, the group's agency BigHit Music said Sunday. According to Yonhap News Agency, the song, released in February 2020, "ON" reached the 500 million mark Friday, becoming the 16th group track by the boy band to achieve the milestone on the platform. "ON," the main track of BTS' fourth studio album, "Map of the Soul: 7," reflects on the group's journey over the seven years since their debut. Meanwhile, BTS members RM, V, Jimin and Jungkook are set to complete their mandatory military service next week, with Big Hit Music asking fans not to visit the discharge sites to ensure safety. According to the agency's notice on Hybe's global fandom platform Weverse on Saturday, RM and V will be discharged on June 10, followed by Jimin and Jungkook on June 11. 'There will be no official event held on the day of their discharge,' Big Hit Music said. 'We are concerned about potential safety hazards caused by overcrowding, as the site is shared with many other soldiers and is a confined space.' The agency emphasised that the safety of both artists and fans is the top priority, and strongly urged fans to refrain from visiting the military sites. Suga, who has been serving as a social service worker, will complete his alternative service on June 21. Jin and J-Hope, the first BTS members to enlist, were discharged in June and October of 2024, respectively. Both members have resumed their solo activities. - Berrnama-Yonhap
